I agree with Ellen, that this act was horrible. However, I don't give a flying fuck about whether a presidential candidate believes in gay marriage. I care about whether or not they can do the best for this country and make vital changes, not whether or not they're homophobic. I wanted to see Romney in office, and he's against gay marriage. I still KNOW he would have done a better job than Hillary or Barack.
I have so much respect for Ellen. She sticks by what she believes in, and expresses her heart. I wish I had heard her message "It's okay to be gay" when I was younger. Ellen, you have sent a great message to the many young people struggling with their sexuality that they are not alone and they should not be ashamed.

Homosexuality isn’t a choice. Homosexuality is genetic. It isn’t ok for someone to kill a person for race, color, ethnic, or religion. As a Christian I have to be honest, I find some of the bible questionable. For example “an eye for an eye” this only promotes vengeances and violence. I really think interpretation of the good book has been twisted and even changed in history due to the fear of past societies. I once looked down at gay people due to my beliefs but now I know better. We are all equal. We should teach our children to love everyone no matter what. and yes I love and fear my God.

You are adding to the hate and injustice in this world. Homosexuals are regular people as normal as all us heterosexuals out there. I am glad I live in a country where gay marriage is legal and widely accepted. I am proud have a best friend who is gay - yet he didn't admit it for a long time because of the hate attached to it. We need to change our views and be more accepting of every single person in this world. Ellen has hit the nail right on the head - homosexuals are NOT NOT NOT second class citizens and should NOT be treated in a way that is belittling and hateful. We definitely have a HUGE problem in our world when 8th graders are killing each other over sexual orientation - it is sickening! We must be understanding of other individuals and accept every human being for who they are no matter what sexual orientation or race for that matter. If I needed another reason to absolutely adore this woman, here it is. What an eloquent and incredibly powerful message! Here's hoping that it spreads. It is a shame to see that, in a country which prides itself on freedom, equality, and respecting the diversity of others, there are still so many practicing prejudice based on something as personal as sexuality.
Why is she bringing the election into this, none of the candidates show to be bias. That would be stupid.
I think a lot of people who are commenting are missing the point of this post and of Ellen's message. It's not just sad when a gay man is murdered for his lifestyle choice, but that society still not evolved past the point of killing people for being different. Fat, skinny, black, white, gay, straight… why is discrimination still happening? The US wants the world to think it is a higher power, and evolved state and yet people are still taking such primitive actions, when will it stop? I want to thank Perez for posting this, since your readers are generally young adults, it's important to bring these issues to light because we are the future and we can change this disgusting trend! Discrimination against anyone for any reason is wrong. In the words of Ghandi, your country is only as good as the poorest person in it.
