i blam brandon's parents all the way for allowing their son to think that killing someone who is gay was the right thing to do! I blame them because they could've prevented this from ever happening and he probably heard such things around the household. His peers probably heard about it and made fun of him for it, but he should've been able to talk to his parents about it before deciding the violence was the answer!!

I have to be honest here, I have a 16 year old son, whom is straight, and I would be devastated if he were to come home one day and tell me that he was gay. There are many reasons for this, but the main one is because of this horrific situation with 2 children's lives over. I spent 12 years in the military and I saw how many of the guys, who confided in me, because I did not judge them even though I didn't agree with the life style, and they knew this, but I saw how once the other straight guys suspected they were gay, they were treated horribly, several of them took their own lives, were raped with broomsticks etc, and the ones who made it through, I saw the light go out in their young eyes. I am a christian, and I try very hard not to judge, but Ellen is right, the reality is this is not going to stop and it is a very hard lifestyle to live. God Bless you all, and Aloha from the beautiful state of Hawaii.

I live in Santa Barbara which is only like 30 minutes away from Oxnard…so this hit close to home. I think it's absolutely sick and awful, and I cried when I heard why Larry had been killed. I hope that in 50 years, we'll look back on the way we treated gays and be mortified, like how we look back on the way we treated blacks just 50 years ago. We'd never dream of lynching a black person now, and my only hope is that soon being gay will be accepted the way being black is.

I LOVE Ellen… always have because she is funny, witty and INTELLIGENT. I am a Republicn and don't think there is anything wrong with being gay. I have several gay friends and family members and think they are entitled to have the same fulfilling relationship with someone they love, just like I do. HOWEVER, the ONLY tpart she could have left out was her NOT-SO-SUBTLE message to get people to for the "change candidate"–Obama. John McCain doesn't hate gay people, and Obama is not the only voice for change in this election.
