Pregnant woman uses train toilet, baby slips out
A newborn baby girl survived an ignoble birth after slipping down the toilet bowl of a moving Indian train onto the tracks when a pregnant woman unexpectedly gave birth while relieving herself on Tuesday.
"My delivery was so sudden," said the Bhuri Kalbi, the mother of the infant, born two months prematurely. "I did not even realize that my child had slipped from the hole in the toilet."
Kalbi, a 33-year-old woman from a village in Rajasthan, fainted on the toilet seat after the birth for a few minutes before waking up and alerting her family.
"They stopped the train and ran on the tracks to find the baby," she said, speaking from her hospital bed in the western city of Ahmedabad.
Railway staff at a nearby station were alerted and soon found the newborn girl lying uninjured on pebbles by the track. She is now in intensive care because of her premature birth, doctors said.
Most toilets on Indian trains are filthy chutes emptying directly onto the tracks.

The baby was premature! incase you dont realize, premature babies especially ones that come that early are very tiny. She also passed out when it happened. And teh reason people found her later was because it was late at night, or early in the morning, depending on which way you look at it.

A midwife in Aus actually invented a birthing chair that had the mother sitting not unlike when you're on the toilet. Apparently it's makes childbirth significantly easier and less painful…she noted that it's not uncommon for women to give birth on the toilet because of the way everything is positioned. So yeah, I'd believe it…at least it seems quite possible.

the umbilical cord is attached to the sac the baby is in, so if she gave birth the sac probably went with it, which would take along the cord.

Re: Janell – Actually, occasionally they do! Read about birth and contractions & dilation. She gave birth 2 months prematurly so she was not expecting it. And she fainted while it happened. Contractions in your body help the baby "make its way" and then your vagina dilates, i.e. opens up for teh baby to come out. All you people saying thigs like "she must have been loose" etc, go read about births and dilation
the baby is so gonna be well known when it grows up.. assuming it lives normally & is a normal baby..

for everyone who asks about the umbilical cord: it is a dead wire that was alive when the baby is inside. it was the lifeline between the mother and baby. once the baby is born the umbilical cord shrivels up and maybe fall out by itself with having to be cut.

Thank God the baby is alright! it happens occasionally that a woman gives birth to her child unexpectedly on the toilet, but that it happens on a toilet in a train, is unbelievably rare! I don't know what the hell happened to the umbilical cord, though. it isn't mentioned in the artical. all I know is that I feel very blessed that such a thing didn't happen to me and my baby girl five months ago!! won't it be smart of someone to find out about the cord's whereabouts, Perez??

When I was a kid the neighbor had her baby in her toilet. Same story, he just fell out when she was taking a dump. We always called him "Roger-born-in-the-toilet". Poor kid never had a chance. At least she had the foresight not to flush him down.

I understand the doubt, but it seems possible to me. Especially with a premature baby–in the picture she looks very small–and if the mother had given birth before.
The people who are aghast at what a huge vag this woman has are likely not aware that the birth canal is significantly shorter during labor than what they're envisioning as a vagina. This woman could have been walking around dilated, had an incompetent cervix, etc. And women have given birth in a coma before. Having had a c/s after a looooong labor, part of me hates to believe this, but uterine contractions alone are often strong enough to push a full-term baby out without a mother actively pushing. Weird, but true.
