Poor Wino! The singer has an icky skin condition, her publicist has revealed!
Says her rep: "Amy has been diagnosed with impetigo which she's been told can be highly contagious. Because of that se's been put on antibiotics and may have to stay home alone for the next few days."
Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection. It causes red sores that can break open, ooze fluid, and develop a yellow-brown crust. These sores can occur anywhere on the body but most often appear around the mouth and nose.
According to many reports, Wino's back on the drugs. We have a feeling THAT might have something to do with her skin condition as well!

That is not impetigo. My 4-year-old had it, and it's just flaky skin. It's not drug-related, and it does NOT look like that.

Impetigo is not rare at all. You get it mainly from having a sore and then being dirty and not taking care of yourself. Nasty and typical of her it seems.

Thus, it is possible to get these conditions.
If Amy touched a door handle before you she could pass it on to you, or if she is your family member and you use the same face cloth you could get it.
That doesn't have anything to do with hygiene. It's to do with things transfering to other people.

MANY years ago when I was just a little kid in school, there were the occasional outbreaks of Impetigo. We were told back then it was caused by poor hygiene. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but after seeing how filthy and dishevelled Wino's been looking lately, it wouldn't surprise me. And yes, it is highly contagious.
My three year old had impetigo on his face. He caught it on an airplane. I applied an antibiotic cream and it cleared up in a day. No big deal.

impetigo is not necessarily drug related. If you have a cut and a staph infection gets in then you have impetigo that becomes sores.
Impetigo is the "creeping crud". It's an infection that usually starts from the nose. If Amy is sensitive to certain antibiotics, she may puff up like that. My middle child got creeping crud from going into a public pool. It's no big deal. breath people breath.

Drugs don't cause impetigo. It can just ramdomy occur as it is a highly communicable disease. As long as you use the antibiotics, it clears up fine.

Impetigo DOES NOT PRESENT LIKE THAT. Impetigo causes oozing crusty sores but it does not cause dramatic swelling. She may have impetigo IN ADDITION to whatever is causing her face to swell, but her face is NOT swelling because of impetigo.

actually, anyone can get impetigo, I've never been a skinny, anorexic, crackhead who hasn't had a decent meal in days, but I got impetigo while living in Kenya, all it takes is a little bacteria under the skin and then it spreads. However, it is highly treatable…fyi.
Re: Nina – Nina at 99. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Herpes is a virus and has nothing to do with Impetigo. Impetigo is caused by one or the other of two bacteria : Streptococcus pyogenes or Staphylococcus aureus. Viruses and bacteria are two separate and distinctly different life forms.

Impetigo is caused by very common bacteria, staph. My 4 year old daughter got it in December from the pool when we were staying at a resort in Mexico. And NO …not from wiping snot around her face. She got it on the BACK of her upper arm and shoulder blade, where the life jacket had rubbed up her skin. You can get it anywhere on your body if the skin is broken. NOT from having poor hygiene.

Yeah so I've had impetigo. It blows massively. But that does not look like it at all. Impetigo sores look like blisters. Something is not right here.
Impetigo is quite common among elementary school children. My son has picked it up a few times, though minor. The usual medication is an antibiotic topical cream, and I have never seen any inflammation, at least not the extent of what I am seeing on Amy's mug. Hey Rep, Tell us another one…

Impetigo while it is technology 'not' a 'dirty' disease, it tends to be linked to impoverished living conditions, IV drug use, and poor personal hygiene. Basically its bacteria such as Strep that multiplies into a boil or other type lesionsin the skin. It is bacterial in nature, meaning it was acquired from a similar situation. More times than not, impetigo is seen in children because they are 'dirty' when it comes to personal hygiene, they dont wash their hands and so they spread it like wildfire. In adults, its most often seen in those who share nasal exudate, and since Amy is into cocaine, it is often associated with snorting cocaine use in ill conditions.

My neighbor gets this on his face and arms. It is all the impurities from the meth coming out of his skin. He tries to say that he doesn't know why or how it happens.. but the truth is he gets a sore and picks at it with his nasty fingers untill it turns into that! For those of you who say.. " I had this (impetigo) once apon a time" You may have had a type of it.. not caused by filth and drug use.. but that doesn't mean someone else can't suffer from the same thing. I had a friend who got a staph infection from playing at the play ground during school recess.. and I had a friend who got a staph infection from having surgery at a Sutter Delta hospital in Auburn Ca… he died from the staph infection killing his kidneys.. Obviously they had the same infection but got it, and suffered from it in VERY different ways.
Yeah. Impetigo is very contagious. I had heaps of them on me a while back. Although, they're not as bad as what Perez describes them as, but you have to put gross anti-bacterial cream on them. Its not nice at all. And they scar, and I didn't get any around my mouth or nose. That sounds like bull to me.
This looks too bad to be simple impetigo, which usually just affects the outer layers of the skin. It looks as though she has a secondary bacterial infection called cellulitis and it appears to be very serious. Look at how enlarged the lymph nodes in her neck are. That is a sign of a very bad infection. If she were my patient, she would be in the hospital getting IV antibiotics. An infection that serious, especially on the face or head, is very dangerous and can lead to anything from blood poisoning to meningitis. I fear for her.

I've had impetigo in the past and have never used drugs, it's relatively common especially in children, which is how I got it when working in a school (and is Perez mentioned it's highly contagious)! And remember that girl from ANTM had it too!

That is NOT impetego. Seen it dozens of times, treated it dozens of times. That's not even close. I can't even say 'nice try'.
There are 2 types of impetigo. STAPH impetigo and STREP impetigo. The staph strain tends to be worse than the strep but the strep is more common. Kids tend to get the strep type. It's usually treated with a round of antibiotics and occasionally a steroid skin cream. It's not because you are A) dirty or B) addicted to drugs…..although a drug addiction could lower ones immunity.
Perezzers - impetigo is a kind of staph infection. Staph is everywhere, but you don't get it unless your immune system is weakened. Could be because of rehab - probably drugs!
