Mischa Barton and her reps f'ed up the Gossip Girl thing royally, according to TV Guide.
Turns out that Barton and her peeps decided to go public about turning down the Gossip Girl role before even sitting down with the show's execs to tell them of her decision.
How unprofesh!
Why would the barely working Mushy do this?
Well, according to the source (an industry insider) believes Barton's reps were desperate to remind the public of what an in-demand actress she is. In other words, they wanted to LIE.
Fartone's campy leaked the offer as publicly as they could and passed on it as publicly as they could.
So not classy.
We say the plan back fired! A lot of people we heard from dissed on Mushy! And, Gossip Girl fans from across the nation were celebrating that she wasn't going to ruin the show.
One thing Barton excels at is pissing off Gossip Girl and OC creator Josh Schwartz.
Two years ago, on the eve of Marisa Cooper's death on The O.C., the Mush spoiled the big twist when she "accidentally" told a reporter that her character was going to die the day before the episode aired.
Three strikes and you are out, Mush Mush!
Update: We just spoke with Fartone's publicist and she assures us that no one from her camp leaked the Gossip Girl news and that they are not using that to get publicity. You use jobs - not offers, says her rep.

I don't understand why you always say 'barely working' or 'out of work'. She always seems to be shooting movies at the moment. I mean I'm not going to exclaim her greatness as an actress but since christmas she's had 2 films out here in England, St Trinians and Closing The Ring and just looking at IMDB she has 3 films for 2008 in post production, one which is currently filming and one in pre production. I think that's actually a really impressive and productive year. Perez you might not like her but be honest.

perez you know shit about how Hollywood works. You CAN'T go public with an offer. It's not legal. If Barton's people did it they could be sued. Casting feels retarded that she passed being a 'less in demand' actress and concocted the tale.
I mean, she has been working a ton lately but it's mostly indie fair.
Mischa is a fine girl who is taking good care of her choices. I respect her a lot. So what if she smokes pot, so does half the world, really.

Gossip Girl is such a breath of fresh air compared to the long drawn out drama that was the OC. Keep it fresh and cute and keep Misha away from it!!!
