Sad Day for Cheeseheads

abrettfavre.jpg

We bet Wisconsin is at a standstill….

After 17 years (!) in the NFL, legendary quarterback, Brett Favre, is retiring from the game.

According to Fox Sports, who broke the story Tuesday morning, Favre leaves the game as the all-time record holder in several categories including wins, passing yards, touchdowns and consecutive games started. A three-time MVP, the southern swashbuckler won fans over with his carefree style.

Brett Favre, his people and the Green Bay Packers have yet to confirm Fox's report.

We've always liked Mr. Favre. He'll always be Cameron Diaz's hot ex-boyfriend in There's Something About Mary to us!

Thankfully there's another Favre in the NFL to keep the family name alive!

Update: It's confirmed.

He's outta there!

Hey not all of Wisconsin is sad by this. And yes all of the major news stations have been reproting this since it broke this morning. You would think it was some major snow storm or something, because they kept the news rolling after the normal time, and and keeping it up all day and night. I know you are all sad but common there is more to life then Brett Farve

i live in a nice house too you idiot! …franklin area - nice new house….wtf does that have to do with anything, since you brought it up? would rather hang out on 1st and north and risk getting shot then listen to you idiots and how great brett is - i mean - big deal - MVP - if he's that good than isn't he SUPPOSED to be all those things? take team to superbowl? big deal….everyone acting like it's the end of the world!! LOLOL favre kept talking retirement cuz he was waiting to see how much they'd pay him if he stuck around another year - nothing else…they finally called his bluff! praise allah!!

what i DO enjoy..or DID i should say - was watching football every sunday praying for the chance of "your boy brett" getting his neck snapped!! no such luck!! LMAO

now we're gonna hear all week the "bye bye brett" crap - god almighty…and then come beginning of football season…more "brett was great"…it's the same crap when he injured his thumb years back and news stations would actually break into regular shows with a "thumb injury update" ROTF!

You're an idiot. Useful? This is big news. Brett Favre is what football and all team sports is about! I'm tired of all the punks in sports now and their attitudes. Half of them are shit too. This guy could flat out play and everybody loved him because he was such a loyal teammate.

You really are an idiot… get a clue before you start talking about stuff you obviously don't know much about. Did it for the money? too bad he's one of the few QB's that would/did take less money so they could pay other players more to make a better team. You should really just shut the eff up before someone blows up the entire Franklin area and destroys your big house.

You even talk like you're from the southside. I wish you knew how stupid and ignorant you sound… you might be embarrassed that people hunt in wisconsin, but being from River Hills im just embarrassed that places like Franklin and the people from it have to be associated with the state I live in.

i bet you tease your bangs and shop at southridge. trash.

I am in Green Bay and let me tell you, its a sad sad day here….although I am a Chicago Bears Fan, i love me some Brett Favre. Even if you hate the Pack, deep down everyone likes our interception throwing quarterback. 17 years and he's finally calling it quits. WE LOVE YA BRETT

  51. Packer Girl says – reply to this

    151

Its a very sad day in GB.. I live here and we love Brett, he means allot to this community on and off the field. I am lucky I get to go to all the home games, it will not be the same when the players come out of the tunnel and #4 is not among them. Just breaks my heart, but am I shocked?? No.. We can thank that Packer organization for this, if they truly wanted him back, they would've went out and got some big time players, they have the money. But No Thompson wants to focus on the young of this team and build it up. Brett needed some experience on that field to make his last wish come true. To win another super bowl and the Packers let him down. I knew it, last night when Moss signed the deal with the Pats. I knew this was coming today. Brett you gave us some wonderful/exciting and heart stopping games and you truly brought the pride back to my city. I don't know where we would be with out you. And I have to mention, Reggie White. These two men brought allot and mean allot to Green Bay and we will always be grateful!!!!

  52. Bout damn time! says – reply to this

IT DOESN'T. there's more important issues at hand than one football-great's retirement.

    Re: jobabe
I'm from Chicago and was raised as a Packer fan. I'll be thankful for the rest of my life that my dad raised me the way he did. I'm 21 years old and I've never known a Pack quarterback other than Favre. He will be so missed.

To jobabe: No, there is no law that you have to like your state's team. I get shit all the time for being a Packer fan from Chicago. So, good for you for not liking the Packers, but show some fucking respect. The man is a legend. You may not be a fan, but you actually look stupid by claiming that he's nothing special. He was voted to the Pro Bowl (as a starter) for the seventh time in 11 seasons with Green Bay, only the fourth player in NFL history to pass for both 40,000 yards in the regular season and 4,000 yards in the playoffs, holds the touchdown pass record…should I go on? I'll never deny that Walter Payton was a great player just because I don't like the Bears. I don't care where you live, but sports are important to some people. And Brett Favre is important to sports.

As for all of the people who are dissing Brett, please show some respect because there is no doubt that the man was a great player. I know I will be wearing my Favre jersey tomorrow in rememberance of his amazing run as the quarterback for the Packers.

i tell 'ya though - sure am gonna miss those games - you know the ones - where he always seemed to panic cuz he wanted to be the one to save the day - but he would panic and throw the ball into about 12 jerseys of the other team!! interception!!! game over! ahhhhhh….yes…you know what? i will be sad to see him go - can't see him make an ass outta himself anymore!!! Writing to you from Green Bay, WI… you're right, we ARE at a stand still! Very sad news for us, but you know what, he gave us a great run, and the guy deserves a break so he can be with his family. He's leaving on his terms, at the top of his game - how many NFL players can say that?!

There is no other Favre in the NFL. I believe Perez was talking about Brandon Farve who attends St. Stanislaus College.. It's a private HS in Bay St. Louis,MS where he has already broken a number of school records. It was only his first year as QB. Appears as though he could have NFL potenial!

As a lifelong Wisconsinite, I've been watching this guy play since I was in kindergarten. Sure, it's a sad day that he's retiring, but seriously, it's about time. I know hardly anyone else from here agrees with me, but he's getting older and every time he gets injured, it's a bigger deal than times before. He doesn't need the money and he surely doesn't need the fame - he's already broken tons of NFL records. I say go enjoy retirement, Brett - you've earned it!

NO, he is still hot for being old. I do not think he will quit with his last pass being an interseption. I like FAVRE! Best player ever! If he is done he will be missed by me. I am from the west coast but I have always been a Packers fan and I will always be one. If this is true it is time for Rodgers to step up, he has some big shoues to fill.

You played a long time, had a great career, and can walk away with your head as high as anyone else. He may have been best player I've ever seen and certainly was the best I've ever played with.
