Totally sucks. I was stuck in Denver airport for 4 hours with nothing but myspace, everytime I went to perez, I got kicked off the internet
It's not censorship but FREE internet, so they get to decide which sites they want you to see and not see. Too many scumbags look at porn in public places, and that is why they are doing this. Go be a crybaby make a stink with the ACLU!
It's their network, so let them do what they want.
I've been in Denver last year and I loved it. I would like to go back anytime. Nice city.
I am beyond tired about the lame excuses of "protecting the children" everytime it involves taking away an adult's rights (with regards to censorship of course) - it's called PARENTING people! If you don't want YOUR children looking at pornography on the internet, then set the blocks on YOUR laptop, or YOU sit there and monitor what they are doing! Why should the fact that you have children you can't or won't control - stop someone else from accessing a legitimate site? Children shouldn't be left unattended at an airport (or any public place) anyway - do your job as a parent!
As for the excuse that they could walk by and see someone else looking at porn?!? Let me just remind you that a block on what you can access on the internet does not block what an individual can save on their laptop, or stop them from popping a porn dvd in. If the person is so perverted that they have to check that stuff out in a public venue, then they are going to find a way to get at it!

So true, Nic. Many Americans (not all) won't hesitate to expose their kids to all kinds of violence in movies, tv, and video games, but when it comes nudity, they flip out. It tends to create a twisted, unwholesome, and somewhat repressed attitude about sexuality and the human body. It also makes some people think they have the right to monitor and restrict what kinds of media other people chose to look at.

1.Taxpayers pay for the airport, & it is their money that is going to the wifi& should have a say in it!
2. The airport doesn't have public computers, so, the people are using their labtops. Therefore, if they have childeren, they can buy individual filters for their own computer.
3. & for those of you who say "oh, well some kid might see somebody else's labtop with porn on it" -Doubt it!! Most people have the decency to look at their porn in private. You would be better off worrying about your kid discovering porn while their hanging out with their friends!

A line really has to be drawn Perez! While I as an adult can find your site amuzing, it is NOT suitable for children. Unfortunately children have immediate access to your site and worse-pornography.

It's free so they can block whatever they want. If you don't want to be blocked, use one of the paid services that no doubt are offered there as well. Last time I flew, I had the choice of free (crappy signal) or AT&T and T-mobile for a fee.

There was a case a while back — a woman was stopped at a light with her kid in the car and the SUV next to them had porn on the video monitor. So she had to explain to her kid that "No the man wasn't hurting the woman…" I'm no prude, but I wouldn't want to be traveling with my kids and have a bunch of retards sitting next to me surfing x-rated material. And yeah, they will if they can — some people have zero standards.
Yeah Denver the same city who allowed a Christian high school sports team avoid any games on Sunday, are now forcing a jewish school's team to forefeit their championship games cause they wont play on Sabbath.

Sounds like something Salt Lake would do… lemme go check the airport. lol haha I could see both sides of this, It is DIA's network they can block what they want, however if its the persons own computer they should be able to visit what sites they want, And all this shit about not wanting kids looking at bad stuff, its a fucking airport, they will access bad stuff anywhere, better parenting skills needs to be involved. If, as #108 says, the free Wi-Fi at DIA really IS funded by taxpayers, then it DOES become an issue of censorship. If I'm the one who's paying for the service, then I want unrestricted access.
And as #106 points out, you don't need internet access to view porn on a computer. It can easily come from the hard drive or a dvd. How many people have actually been exposed to pornograhpy on a stranger's computer screen in an airport??? I'm pretty certain this kind of thing happens very rarely, if EVER. You never see people reading hardcore magazines in airports, so why should they use computers to view it?
This issue should be handled on a case to case basis: if someone causes problems viewing obscene materials in public, call the police and let them handle it.
As many others have argued, it is the responsibility of PARENTS to monitor their children's internet activity. And please, don't even get me started on children, infants, and air travel. Talk about offensive!
Don't hate on Denver. I think they should look at which site's theyre blocking b/c Perez blocks out nudity but porn in a public place like that is completely unacceptable. DIA is the only airport i've been in recently that has free Wifi so they do have some say as to what they do with it.

I can't get on perezhilton.com in almost EVERY airport wifi I go to… Jacksonville, FL, Charlotte, NC, Philadelphia, PA….FYI, it's not just Denver and that sucks…
Well, censorship sucks. Except where they're blocking perezhilton.com, there should be limited access to this crap, most of which is made up by Mario himself. They really should make a site owner take an IQ test before they are allowed to publish thier site.

Do they also block other popular sites like Wikipedia, Craigslist, and Amazon? Content that is definitely NOT appropriate for children can also be found on those sites! If not, it's clearly a case of selective discrimination.

FIRST OFF… PART of CO Springs 1.5 hrs from Denver has a religious right that unfortunatly gets displayed in the media… A lot of CO has a republican base because there are a lot of farmers… business owners ect … (where the airport is…) but DENVER PROPER is a VERY LIBERAL… a very Democratic area…. we just had more growth in tourism than any city in the US… we are a state that has some major companies within its borders… technology, biochemical research, … Boulder (just 30min from downtown denver) was just named the smartest city in the US!! thats a lot of PHDs BITCHES!!

Sorry, but I think some of the criticisms of Denver in this thread are valid. Thinking that Denver would offer all the advantages of urban living with easy access to natural beauty and recreation, I relocated from Chicago. I lived there for a couple of years, but finally moved because I couldn't stand it!
Denver has a lot of the same problems as western cities like sprawl, lack of culture, history, and diversity. Yuppification and unregulated development are also serious issues. And the traffic, thanks to a serious dependence on automobiles, can be heinous. IMO, Boulder has way better nightlife and entertainment. Denver has all of the problems of urban living with very few of the advantages.
I had a friend from Chicago out to visit, and her comment was, "My God, it's so WHITE." That's when I realized I'd rather live with the Indians than the cowboys. I've been in New Mexico ever since.

My husband's childhood friend is a pilot for United. I once asked him what his favorite U.S. airport is. He said it was DIA because the runways are so new, large, and well laid out that it makes for very easy landings.
Used to live in Denver - for the most part, it's pretty OK, minus the fact you're surrounded by Focus on the Family/PromiseKeepers-freaks, grouchy alcoholics and militia weirdos - just don't set foot outside the city limits.
So, it makes sense, they've dumbed down the media 'they' ALLOW you to see (refer to local AIR-head reporting) - for the 99% of the Coloradoans that don't live on Capitol Hill.
The biggest news story in Denver right now?: -Illegal immigration.
Go to Boston or N.Y.C.- no one's heard of it, and they could give 2 $hits less.

I've lived in Denver for the past 11 years and I love it. I think it's stupid too, but I figure it's only the fucking airport.
Denver is one of the few airports to provide wifi for free. I would prefer to only be able to look at a few sites for free, than have to pay the $7.99 per hour that other airports require.
