Smoking Kills!

wenn778633.jpg

Kids, do NOT smoke!!!!!
SMOKING KILLS!

A new report claims that actor Patrick Swayze had a filthy habit of smoking three packs of cigarettes a day.

We hope that's not true.

Any sane person would know THAT IS TOO MUCH.

Smoking kills!

INSIDE EDITION has uncovered Patrick Swayze had a three pack a day cigarette habit. The habit was so bad it was listed as a partial factor in the cause of a plane crash Swayze was involved in by the National Transit Safety Board in 2000. The report reveals Swayze was flying his plane when he became physically impaired in the cockpit which authorities said may have been caused by the cumulative effects of carbon monoxide by-products from the engine and from tobacco use.

Don't smoke, kids!!!

According to the American Cancer Society previous studies have shown that smoking is responsible for about one-third of pancreatic cancer deaths. Studies reveal heavy smoking may damage the pancreas before cancer develops leaving the damaged pancreas more susceptible and at a greater risk of developing cancer.

Smoking kills!!!!

Can I just point out the 3 out of ten figure (at least I think thats whats been quoted)?

Thats like out of 10 people who get this evil illness only 3 of it could possibly be down to smokeing..what about the 7 others who are having their lives ripped apart

There is a increased risk yes…but there is also a chance it could of been caused due to another factor such as genes. Also there is no clear proof atm that the poor guy smoked…just storys.

Premoting awarness is fine, but being preahey about someones life choice (IF he smoked) when only yesterday this story broke..is a bit well screwy isnt it?

Oh GREAT PerASS! and the others who reported his smoking! So, are all of yall NOW saying it is HIS fault he has cancer and may very well die from the disease???
Just a morsel of food for thought…EXACTLY WHAT will all the health nuts die from???? It damn sure wont be from eating too many veggies or running too many miles or too many trips to the gym. It will be some sort of illness or disease. There is NO such thing as dying simply of "old age".
Leave this man alone and get off your damn high horses! I am not perfect..as far as what I have been told, there was only one perfect person to have existed on this earth..and they crucified, mutilated, and killed him. Sure glad IIIIIIIIIIII am not perfect. What about you Perez and the other homosexuals out there? Are we going to start announcing what types of lives were led and how that contributed to the deaths of folks?
Damn, PerASS, you have gotten really cheesy lately.

What's with all you morons that claim smoking has nothing to do with pancreatic cancer? Do your research you fucking idiots. It practically doubles the risk. Smoking causes many forms of cancer, not just lung cancer. Don't write shit if you don't have a fucking clue what you are talking about.
Risk factors for pancreatic cancer include:

    Age
    Male gender
    African ethnicity
Smoking. Cigarette smoking causes a 75% risk increase, and the risk persists for at least a decade after quitting.
    Diets high in red meat
    Obesity
    Diabetes mellitus
Chronic pancreatitis has been linked, but is not known to be causal
    Helicobacter pylori infection
Occupational exposure to certain pesticides, dyes, and chemicals related to gasoline
Family history, including autosomal recessive ataxia-telangiectasia and autosomal dominantly inherited mutations in the BRCA2 gene, Peutz-Jeghers

DON'T try to start a cause, already berating the guy for smoking and making all smokers worry they're going to die from PC… okay, I have never smoked and think it's gross, but for fuck's sake, the guy is seriously sick - and there is no proven causal effect etc - let the guy get better, don't start trying to apportion blame, not least to a habit that may or may not have been a contributory factor. And remember… no-one puts Baby in the corner :)

I smoke 10 sig. a day. If I`m free from work and have time I may come close to 20.. But I think that is alot, and takes time..
    3 packs? OH PLEASE!
And even if he does, its nobodys business!

Re: houskat – I agree, houskat. It's really a total crap-shoot. For example, my dad smoked 3 packs a day for 40 years (but quit 20 years ago), still drinks like a fish, and still puts a potato on his butter and salt, as I like to point out to him, but he keeps active. Both his parents died before they reached 60; my dad is now nearing 80 and, much to my chagrin, remains in very good health for his age. I just don't get it.

In any event, getting back to Patrick Swayze … Perez, until this post, I was sooooo applauding your initial treatment of the situation on your website. But then for you to go off on the "Smoking Kills!" bandwagon doesn't do Patrick Swayze justice. Now, you're just going the same ol' sleazoid route all of the other tabs are heading. I'm disappointed in you, Perezito.

Perez is right. Smoking is a cause of pancreatic cancer. My favorite aunt recently died from pancreatic cancer. She was a heavy smoker. I took care of her at my home after she was diagnosed with it where she eventually died. She was in the advanced stages and lasted about two months after it was discovered. All these posters who claim the contrary should google pancreatic cancer and go to the Mayo Clinic webpage and read the facts. Peace.

    Secondhand smoke KILLS:

Case links woman’s death to environmental tobacco smoke, MSU prof says
    by Tom Oswald

February 7, 2008 - A young asthmatic woman who collapsed and died shortly after arriving for her shift as a waitress at a bar may be the first reported death to be reported nationally from acute asthma associated with environmental tobacco smoke.

This case report by an MSU physician, published in the February edition of the American Journal of Industrial Medicine, not only outlines circumstances under which the woman died, but also raises a number of issues regarding safety in the workplace.

The report states the woman arrived at the bar in Michigan and, according to co-workers, seemed happy and healthy. About 15 or 20 minutes later she collapsed and within a few minutes died.

“This is the first reported acute asthma death associated with work-related ETS,” said Kenneth Rosenman, an MSU professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. “Recent studies of air quality and asthma among bar and restaurant workers before and after smoking bans support this association.”

Yes lots of people who don't smoke get cancer so that means that it's fine to smoke because you will get cancer anyway? Or that means that smoking doesn't cause cancer? I don't get it. What kind of logic is that?
Most everyone with a brain knows that if you smoke your odds of getting many different types of cancer increase greatly.
Kudos to Perez for sticking it to moron celebrities who smoke. They are role models for many kids and older people who think it's cool and OK to smoke because of them. She could not stop coughing to get better after a VERY minor heart attact she was expected to survive, and never came out of the hospital again. She KNEW smoking is what killed her, and cursed those cigarettes she had quit while she was in intensive car.

    172

Smoking is a disgusting, expensive addiction and the people who do it litter the environment with their damn ugly cig butts and ashes, and they smell like shit. I can smell a smoker from 5 feet away. They spend money for crap like cigarettes then bitch about health care expenses! Hypocritical assholes need to be put OUT of the insurance system. They poison their children's air, too, and then get upset their kids have runny noses and get sick. There is no excuse for being a smoker- their emphysema and disease costs us billions of dollars if they live into retirement age. Smoking kills. It rots gums and tongues and the chemicals it puts into your blood poisons and weakens organs. And those stinky finger and brown spit and coughing are lovely too. But you can always substitute that nasty mouth tobacco that is so gross, and you can spit the stinky brown slime onto the sidewalk for people to see. Barrrrfffff. If you spend money on cigarettes then you must be pretty rich because per pound, it costs more than almost anything else you could buy or do.

Smoking is a horrific habit because it subjects other people to YOUR toxic habit INVOLUNTARILY — children being the smallest victims to this when parents light up, unconcerned about the consequences. Get over yourself and have some grace. The world can draw its own cautionary inferences about the link between cancer and smoking. Your decision to MS Paint "sad" over a picture of a man fighting for his life, characterize his alleged behavior as "filthy" and then re-publish the specious and inflammatory Inside Edition story resonate as far more sanctimonious than sympathetic.

Sad!!!! Love this man. 2008 is getting off to a bad start. With Heath Ledger and Patrick…I mean ….these are two of the nicest looking, talented generally nice guys you'd ever want to be a fan of! WTF? For some reason God seems to be taking the best of us for the moment….wait wait wait! Cancel that idea! Patrick will fight this and mind power is something that can't be underestimated! keep Patrick in your prayers and don't count him out.

Their breath does smell because of the toxins they are smoking in. It also causes major mouth, throat and lung problems, such as bleeding gums, teeth falling out, etc.

Re: Mike – Smoking is a causative agent in pancreatic cancer. So is alcohol consumption. Cancers come in various forms. Lung cancer can be embyonal- that is hiding somewhere even at the time of the embryo being formed- or related to asbestos (mesothelioma), or cigarette smoking, etc. To say someone has lung cancer can mean many things. It's like driving a car- some people have wrecks and die, and some don't. It is a risk to drive- just as it is a risk to smoke or drink. It's a loose analogy but it works. There are lot of kinds of cancer cells and lots of causes. Lung cancer was a VERY rare disease in the 1800s. No longer. And you can thank the poisons in cigarette smoke for that.

That is pathetic. You are just saying that because you really DO feel like crap because you are addicted to something you cannot control. You care- you just can't stop. Glad you have so much money that you can burn it and smoke it.

I think it is great you are getting the word out to people.
If anything, good may come out of this because people may actually understand how bad smoking is.

Yes true, but the 'cool club kids' want to stay skinny, and they keep smoking, but they get what's coming to them.

They also say, "well we're all gonna die anyway so i will keep smoking". Wait till you grow up and see how fast time goes by, and try saying that again,

    Re: opi – #175
Sorry to break this to you, but cancer is increasingly being linked to genetic factors. For instance, women whose mothers, grandmothers, sisters, etc., have died of breast cancer are now getting preventive mastectomies. Alzheimer's has also been linked to a specific gene. The same is proving true for more diseases everyday.
As it turns out, you can do everything right: eat well, exercise, limit your exposure to carcinogens, never smoke or drink, AND STILL GET CANCER. Certainly smoking increases the risk of developing the disease, but you shouldn't be so certain that you're immune. Fate often has a way of proving you wrong!

Why doesn't it come up about his super bad alcoholism up until the past few years?! A friend who lives in Las Vegas, New Mexico and attended university there would ALWAYS see him in the dive bars (the only bars in Las Vegas, NM) drinking w/ the local town drunks, filthy and almost unrecognizable! this was in 2001. I went down to visit and right away he point Patrick out.

Granted Patrick was a very sweet man and would sign autographs for anyone that asked in between shots of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that was set in front of him. This apparently went on for YEARS adn YEARS!!!

Btw, Las Vegas, NM is about 1/2 an hour from Santa Fe, NM…ask anyone from that area- they all have pictures of him!

THANK YOU for the list of ALL the cancers smoking can contribute to. I realize SOME cancers are genetically based. My relative's wasn't. Her sister who is ten years older than her is still alive, who didn't smoke. It was hell on earth to watch her suffer for each breath and try to do the breathing exercises on the "pump" thing they give her and hear her cursing for smoking that she had given up years before. She only had a 7-10 percent chance of dying the doctors told us from the initial mild heart attack, 10 days later, COPD complications caused her death. Smoking is as lethal as it gets.
