Natalie Portman's graces the cover of the new issue of Elle, and instead of just hawking her new movie, the socially-conscious star also talks politics.
When asked about the way Americans have responded to Hillary Clinton's campaign, Portman responded:
"A lot of the stuff people say about her, I hear it and my stomach falls because it's so sexist. You ask people why they don't like her and it's because her husband cheated on her! That was obviously not her choice. She's so much more polished and experienced than anyone else. Last night, a friend, a social worker in L.A. who works with underprivileged kids, was saying how these girls who have never been interested in politics before are so excited that a woman might be president. I mean, look how many women are in government…Hillary's one of, what, [a handful of] female senators?"
And to not leave Barack Obama out, Portman continued:
"I also like Obama. I even like McCain. I disagree with his war stance—which is a really big deal—but I think he's a very moral person. I met him and Hillary on the same day, actually, when I went to Washington with Finca [a nonprofit that gives loans to businesswomen in developing countries]. Hillary was by far the smartest person I met that day. Just totally focused, and knew more about the issues than anyone else, and was so able to go from one thing to the other."

I like Natalie too, but totally disagree with her choice. The only reason I've been tuning in and keeping track of American politics since Jan is not because of Hilary but because of Obama…. and it's not about his color or what he represents to all visible minorities etc etc….. it's because of what he stands for and believes in, and I feel he is a lot more genuine than Hilary, which has come across in the way he speaks and never stoops to Hilary's level (even when relentless and unfairly attacked ) which may be why so many YOUNG Americans have been voting/supporting him and becoming interested in politics again all of a sudden. If he can do this and inspire so many in his own country (where most if not all are fairly educated), imagine what he's capable of when he starts to meet foreign leaders and deal with foreign political crisis, I even think a lot of the intl terrorism we see now (exacerbated by Buffon Bush) will wane or cease altogether once Obama is in.

It's really such a transparent political thing when people bring up Clinton's affair. JFK, LBJ, FDR, Harding and tons of other presidents have all had affairs. Even George Bush Sr. was rumored to have had one (albeit discreet). You know plenty of hypocritical congressmen were having affairs right while they were grilling Clinton! The U.S. rarely avoids falling into the trap of a popularity contest, which might give Obama an edge—the sensational notion of the first (half)black president, who is great at attractive oration.
