Free speech sucks when it doesn't match your views, eh Perez? You hypocrite! I defy you to prove one word she said is wrong. A gay lifestyle IS risky. Homosexuality IS being sold to our children and our culture. God DOES say it's wrong. You try to silence this woman for exercising the very right you so heartily enjoy on this sleaze site and you want to call HER hateful?

Re: G – Unless you plan on becoming gay I think we are ok. I think the arguement you used is used by so many people. It makes no sense. By accepting people's lifestyles we are not asking everyone in the u.s. to jump on the "bandwagon" but we are showing tolerance. You really need to grow up and move out of whatever backwoods town you are from.

Ms. Kern should truly be ashamed of herself. Those angry statements are incredibly hurtful to anyone who is a supporter of the GLBT community.

I hope she gets a whole lot of phone calls!

In a way I think she is right. I have a lot of gay friends and they don't flaunt it. We are who we are, but the lifestyle does not need to be glorified.

Re: I support Sally – Any time a gay basher posts here, he/she/it puts a little dough into Perez's pocket. So, Gay bashers support homosexuality!

    109

i'm really baffled by this. i live in the uk - and i don't know if it's different here - but in this country there just wouldn't be any discussion about this. homosexuality is not a matter of right and wrong - it is a fact. i am a man. i love cock. get over it! in this day in age to find out that so many people cannot comprehend that is proof of the sheer stupidity of a large proportion of the human race.

re #'s 12, 15, 19. you're right, she does have the right to feel and think however she wants, however, as a person with a political voice she should be smart enough and responsible enough to know that giving a speech such as this empowers and encourages those people who use more than words to demonstrate their beliefs. her speech justifys the close minded thinking of individuals who discriminate against homosexuals and perpetuates the idea that gay men and women are second class citizens. there are people dumb enough to believe that her words justify the next hate crime, the next slur, etc. she is reckless in her use of the 1st ammendment and if i were from oklahoma i would be embarassed to have her represent me.

while it is her right to practice her freedom of speech, i dont agrree that homosexuals are the moral degredation of society.homosexuals just want to have a voice, and be respected like any other person. who are we to judge that. God did not say we could spread hate , he said love thy neighbor as thyself. i do not wish ill will on sally and perez i would hope that you could be the bigger person in this situation. isnt that what you are doing to sally, expressing and voicing your opinion in opposition of what she believes. i love all Gods children and will support them til the day i die but in the meantime we all have to check ourselves in how we respond to hate because if we respond angrily and out of revenge, then isnt all we are doing is maintaining the cycle. she is someone we all can strive TO NOT BE!!! and to all of you homophobics who i see on this site daily bashing the gay community, i would kindly suggest you stop deliberatly coming onto perez's site and spreading your hatred. all you are doing is making yourselves look like fools for being anti gay on a gay freindly site. TSK TSK what would all your other gay bashing friends think.

  31. Bill Courson says – reply to this

    131

I am sorry that there are people like Sally Kern living in the world and believe it would be a very much improved world if she - and people sharing her views - were out of it, just as I believe it would be a better planet if there were no racists, anti-Semites, rapists or serial killers.

If these words seem intemperate, I nonetheless regard them as appropriate and proportional to the offense she has given. When I read the words uttered by this human filth masquerading as an elected public official, I could not help but think of Lawrence King, the California 8th grader shot to death by a classmate last month because he was gay. Or of Matt Sheperd, who ten years ago in 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming was crucified and left to die by two individuals sharing Sally Kern's views of homosexuality.

So, "Ms." Kern, here's a bit of the "gay agenda" especially for you: the opinions you have shared with what you supposed (wrongly) was a select audience of your fellow fascists are now there for all the world to see. I can only assume that the people who elected you and the political party that promoted your election share those opinions.

I hope the impact of your speech follows you to your dying day. God damn you, and God damn what you represent.

  32. disgusted says – reply to this

    132

and for the record, to everyone who is speaking of HER freedom of speech…yes freedom of speech is one thing and she is entitled to her own opinion. BUT TO ATTEMPT TO USE HER POWER IN OFFICE TO 'STOP GAYNESS' IS ABSOLUTELY UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND DISGUSTING

unfuckingbelievable. i want to email her, but i honestly don't see how anyone could talk sense into her. people like her make me believe that equality can never be achieved. she is, for certain, irrational and ignorant, but there is no changing her mind. jesus, she doesn't even know what she's talking about!

that's funny….she doesn't LOOK like a backwoods hillbilly halfwit. ah, well, can't judge a book, etc.

  39. Beverley says – reply to this

    139

The fact is that many people still are uncomfortable around gay people. It's OK for them to have shits and giggles reading gay people's blogs and laughing at how they dress and talk and wear their hair and think they look good doing it (Perez). But very few people would be happy about living next to gay people or having them run their town councils.

Perez may be someone whose website we look at every day, but that doesn't mean we would want him in the neighborhood, or on the school board, or anything else.

Until the time comes that people don't feel grossed out by homosexual sex, gays will be seen as different, and the different is scary to some people.

#123 (and the rest of you who are so antigay), then get off this site. perez is gay, why support him by reading his website if you are 'offended'? i'm sorry. I am a Christian too but apparently not all of us got the "whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." and by love, God doesn't mean your parents or your small minded friends exactly like you. he means everyone…even people different than you. so if that's too hard for you to handle, maybe you should be exploring a different faith.

i'm praying for your closemindedness. i think you need it.
ps congrats. this is exactly what i emailed Sally about

What do you suggest to do against it??? good job by posting this, Perez. keep up the good work!

  64. Hmmm says – reply to this

    164

She does come off tightly wound and very judgemental but like it or not, she's right about homosexuality being wrong. The Bible is very clear about it (as clear as it is about the fact that we should leave all of the judging to God) As a Christian I feel sorry for people who think the gay lifestyle is acceptable. Just because it feels right doesn't mean it is, no matter how good of a person you happen to be otherwise. And the rest of us Bible-believing, God-fearing people shouldn't be forced to accept your lifestyle choice just because pop culture says so.

As an American I am outraged at her comments. It just shows the bigotry and close-mindednedd that surrounds us all everyday.

As an Oklahoman, I will not feel ashamed. I do not feel responsible for every dumb-ass thing that anyone from Oklahoma says. There are dummies in every state. Hold *her* responsible for her words, but do not lump me into the same category becuase I was born in a similar geographical location.

I WROTE THIS EMAIL; FEEL FREE TO COPY IT:

    Dear Ms. Kern,

Your words against gay people are alarming and hurtful, and should be a personal embarrassment to you, as they certainly are for your state and your country. I'm uncertain of how you can pose for a photo in front of the US flag, as it represents equality, liberty, and brotherhood, and not be astonished by your own hypocrisy. Your bigotry and hatred of an entire group of individuals is not only offensive, but also illegal, and definitively un-Christian. Those are the most polite words I can muster, and I have too much respect for the office of representative, which you have tarnished, to speak to you with the type of words you deserve.

    Sincerely,

  68. Alice says – reply to this

    168

Re: America Is A Mess – The problem with that is that if we start telling some people that they cannot express their opinions, where will it stop? We don't censor groups like the KKK (even though they spew ignorance) because we don't want our government to have the power to censor anybody!

Yes, she does have the right to say whatever she wants…this is the USA after all. The thing that is bothersome is the fact that is is a working person in the government. Sally Kern is an Oklahoma State Legislator who apparently does not understand that equality of all man is part of what she is supposed to be speaking up for, she is a representative of all the people in her district (some of which are *gasp* gay), and also that her personal views about religion and sexuality have no place in government. Government is not a religious entity. Government does not and should not care what religion you worship or who you have sex with…whether it be the opposite sex or the same sex. Sally Kern certainly has no place in the government of the United States of America if she can not uphold the guidelines set forth by our forefathers.

So yes, she can say whatever the hell she wants but no, she can not make the remarks she did while speaking on the platform of her office as a representative of the United States.

unbelievably tired, pedestrian debate about the definition of free speech. seriously, no one remembers that free speech does not include yelling FIRE in a crowded building? or encouraging murder (as the OK rep would say, "cutting out the cancer from the rest of the body")? if you don't like homosexual activities, don't participate in them.

now, on to more productive things, does anyone have the email addresses for the governor and senators for OK? i'll fill out their stupid forms they use to filter email if i have to in order to let them know what i think about this, but it would be easier if someone already had it. i'd like to cc them on my email to the Kern. thanks!

Unless, as you imply, God makes mistakes, because he's the one who created homosexuality — in humans and in every species on this planet. So, HMMMM, take that bible you've been beating off on and shove it up your hemorrhoid-encrusted ass, and the next time and every time after, when you read that bible, think of it residing in your ass which apparently contains both your brain and your heart.

JESSE Kern, the son of Rep Sally Kern and her husband, the Rev. Kern. Jesse is gay … I guess growing up in that good Baptist household and going to a Baptist school and college taught him how to be gay.

When Mom and Dad learned of their son's discovery of his sexual orientation, their loving reaction? They shunned him; they threw him out; they forced him out of state. Such Christian love, such compassion

Yes, Sally the gays are certainly a threat to families and children in this state.

Oklahoma has one of the highest divorce rates in the nation, with over 70% of marriages ending in divorce as of 2000 - which is a full third higher than the national average.

Half a million Oklahomans are at risk of going to bed hungry, including one out of every five children, tonight.

Oklahoma tops the nation in the number of pain medication abusers and ranks near the top in almost every form of drug abuse

Oklahoma incarcerates more women then any place else on earth and ranks in the top five with men depending on the year

Oklahoma's teen pregancy rate is at an epidemic level

18 percent of married women in Oklahoma are physically abused

Medicaide pays for 47 percent of the births in Oklahoma

16 percent of Oklahomans are impoverished

Oklahoma is predominantly a Christian conservative state with nearly two thirds of residents self-identifying as evangelical Christians.

Sally, Sally, Sally! It obviously isn't the gays threatening the family now is it? Get your priorities right and deal with the real factors destroying families in Oklahoma. Obviously, your old ways didn't work for the state now did they?

my email (part 1), should you want to use any of it:

    Ms. Kern,

I am disgusted and saddened by the words I heard you speak at the council meeting. This is exactly the kind of message that encourages people to commit hate crimes against people they believe to be gay. Eighth-grader Lawrence King was recently murdered – murdered – because a classmate was offended by his sexual orientation. So, homosexuality is a sin, but spurring on people to murder is not? You may not intend to encourage hate crimes necessarily, but your words, such as comparing homosexuality to cancer in the little toe, all but give permission to people who are equally intolerant to rid the “rest of the body,” or society, of human beings who are sexually attracted to a gender you don’t believe they should be. This is akin to a wink and a nod to anyone looking for an excuse to humiliate, rape, beat, and kill individuals whose private bedroom activity you don’t approve of.

  92. bbbbbb says – reply to this

    192

    (part 2)

Do you approve of sodomy? Should monogamous, married heterosexuals practicing sodomy be allowed to “infiltrate” or hold positions in city councils? Should they be allowed to be around two-year-olds? Are they a cancer that should be eliminated from society? I believe sodomy, like homosexuality, is condemned in the bible, so next time you condemn gay people, please specify that married men and women who voluntarily engage in this activity with each other should be equally condemned, “cut from the body of society,” killed. If you choose to spout ignorance and hatred, please be consistent. And please stop using euphemisms like “cutting cancer” from the body. Please say “murder” so that there can be no confusion about your position.

  93. bbbbbb says – reply to this

    193

    (part 3)

Lastly, you are woefully misinformed of the “studies” that show that societies openly accepting homosexuality crumble within a couple of decades. In fact, during the Roman Empire, sexual activity between men was widely accepted and practiced. This was one of the strongest modern civilizations to exist and did so for centuries not decades. Homosexual activity is also found in some other animal species, such as the Bonobo chimpanzee, our evolutionarily closest relative. Even if you don’t accept the concept of evolution, you cannot deny that this species shares over 99% of our DNA and is therefore similar to us in many ways and is an example of homosexuality in the “natural” world.
