Why doesn't free speech apply for all in America. Most of the comments left here are bashing and hate filled directed at this lady so what is the difference. She is living her life and speaking her mind and sharing her beliefs just as gays do here and all over the internet these days. Seems like people who are trying to live their lives according to the teachings of The Bible, yes that's right The Bible, are the ones being hated on in the World today. Makes you wonder just who the haters really are, eh?

You're right, free speech does apply to her. She can believe in whatever she wants but her religion is not everyones. Separation of Church and
State lives right alongside Freedom of Speech in the First Amendment. It protects the people from a government imposed religion. As an elected government official, she should know better than to attempt to impose her religious beliefs on the people of the United States or, in her case, Oklahoma. Sadly, that's clearly what she would like to do.

I think the real issue is that Sally Kern expressed her views in a way that makes her look out of touch. Much of what she said, to any educated person, sounds misguided. The fall of the Roman Empire by Gays? 2 year old children being indoctrinated into the gay lifestyle? Not all religions are equal? Gays are more dangerous than terrorists? I think this is why people are upset. She doesn't just have an opinion, this is an agenda. She is a government official. As such, the First Amendment is clear. Separation is on the side of the people not the government. She can exorcise her right to her religion just like you or I. But she does NOT have the right to impose her religious opinions/moralities on the people of the United State or Oklahoma. After listening to her, I think if given the opportunity, she would do just that.

People who are arguing that she should have her right to say whatever she wants. Think about this, she is working to take away rights from people who already have less rights than she does as a heterosexual. Why should she get to exercise her rights when she is working to take rights away from people who are already descriminated against and treated poorly. And she does it in the name of GOD. the reason she needs to apologize is because, as a representative of her state, she needs to be more aware of how she portrays her constituents. not everyone in Oklahoma feels that way. just because she believes in what she's saying doesn't make it a) correct or b) widely believed. i personally don't agree with her and think no one should spread hateful words. politicians, especially those elected to represent their states, need to appeal to all of their constituents first and foremost, glbt included. America is one of the most backward countries when it comes to equal rights for the glbt community. South Africa, who within the past two decades banned apartheid, even recognizes gay marriage. Spain, a mostly Catholic country, recognizes gay marriages. why can't Americans be as progressive?
