I mean, Madonna is hardly the cultural force she was in the 90s, and given that her subject matter for the last ten years has been largely about self-reflection and denouncing materialism, I fail to see how she's exemplary of anything more than the change in values that comes with age. Hardly as threatening or demoralizing as, say, Britney Spears wallowing in her own celebrity for its own sake.

I find it amusing how passionate some of these young fans are about Madonna. Most of you are in your early 20's and weren't even around when Madge burst onto the scene. If ya'll were around in the 80's when she first arrived would've been really amazed. She used to be a trend-setter, in-your-face, take-no-prisoners and ballsy brave. She spoke up against homophobia, AIDS, racism, etc. She started her own successful company (Maverick) and signed talented artists like Alanis and Prodigy. We would actually sit around and wait for the "world premiere" of her latest video. We would wait overnight for tickets to her concerts. Unfortunately she is just a shell of her old persona. She doesn't bring anything new to music. She doesn't even voice her opinions anymore. Now she just bores me. Yes, people should change but she could be a true leader now and she chooses to make mediocre music just to gain more money. So depressing.

But why did you not mention your long time, and quite successful collaborator Robert E. Pettibone Jr? Why no mention of your long time multi-concert and recording back-up singers Niki Harris and Donna DeLory?

As a true singer and musician, I too will be giving back my award. Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, and I feel betrayed by this insult. Due to the objective competitive nature of activities like sports, one can say with certainty that the best athletes are in the Olympics or the NBA or whatever. It is highly unlikely that an NBA class player is undiscovered on some small court some where. The same is not true of singing. Having been in several choruses and choirs; I can tell you that many great singers have never been discovered and have never become successful. What makes a successful mass-marketed singer is not just a gift for singing, or even training. It is chance, lucky exposure, and marketing factors. Madonna does not have the greatest voice in the world. But neither do many successful recording artists. Unlike the objective arenas like professional sports, many unknown sand-lot singers can out sing the lot of the professional singers. Perhaps Madonna deserves to be in the Hall of Fame not due to a gift for singing, but due to her marketing success, and her probable place in history because of that marketing.
Personally I really like some of her videos as well.

Somebody needs to open up a REAL Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and put it someplace actually accessible and interesting. The HOF's been a joke from the beginning, this last stunt is just the last straw. The HOF's version of the Rock & Roll music, and those who made them, doesn't jive with the actual history of what IS Rock & Roll. Their inductions are so blatantly egregious that it's like they're trying to rewrite history in their own image. There needs to be some kind of public oversight in the choices for consideration. If they keep on doing what they want, it's only a matter of time until "Disco Duck" is awarded.

I think Justin speach was very cute, but i dont think it was necessary to talk about Britney in the way he did ( Dated a cuple of wannabies) still vey cute and funny speach.
