Environment Terminator

Filed under: Politik > Arnold Schwarzenegger

arnold-wenn.jpg

Talk about a commute!

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose official place of work is in the Northern California city of Sacramento, reportedly spends nearly every night in his Los Angeles-area mansion.

The distance between the two cities is about 360 miles one way!

The governor uses his own money to pay for his Gulfstream flights, which price out at about $10,000 an hour.

Good thing he earned some major cash as a bodybuilder/actor.

But, the environmental costs are high. Flying TO AND FROM WORK is not very ecologically sound, as our Perezcious readers know!

The governor's staff says he purchases "carbon credits." Such credits are aimed at offsetting the greenhouse gases generated by his flights but do nothing about the particulates and smog-forming compounds released into the air.

The reason the Governator gives for the 'commute'? It's so he can spend time with his family. Admirable but can't the family move up to Sacramento?

Arnold recently made the cover of Newsweek for being 'green'. Looks a little hypocritical to us!

Psh I don't blame him… I live in the Sacramento area and if you have lived here all your life like I have you probably would rather be in LA too!!!

    102

Yeah - it's pretty funny these rich people spout how we little common folk should give up everything in order to be "environmentally correct". That's like Cheryl Crow telling us to use ONE SQUARE of toilet paper while she crossed the country in a HUGE bus. Al Gore and his MANY faux pas.

Hey rich people - just shut the fuck up. We don't need your advice. You could probably use ours, though.

Suprise suprise another fake just like Spitzer. California is full of them. They have the worst smog in the states but everyone has to drive their OWN car with their specialized gay plates to sit in traffic for hours while the diamond lanes are empty. Plus there are plenty of SUv's, 4 wheelers etc on the road. And they all have to have their green lawns etc in areas where there isn't supposed to be any and waste tons of water. Their beaches are just as polluted as any, nasty.Plus they are all fake anyway…. fake tits, faces, lipo etc.. Let it slide into the ocean! Thanks and have a nice day!

Uh, gee Leonardo, I guess jetting to that 5 o'clock cocktail party is required by your industry.

Perez, don't talk like you are a big enviromentalist. You now think you are some big political commentator because you support a primary candidate. You have no idea what you are talking about and how carbon credits work. And while you are criticizing the governor for wanting to be with his family, remember he has kids who are in school. You'd be the first to call him out if he didn't treat his family as his #1 priority.

according to the harvard crimson al gore's the real hypocrite:

Gore and his wife Tipper, whose children all live elsewhere, reside in a behemoth 20-room mansion outside of Nashville that used nearly 23,000 kilowatt-hours last August, more than twice the annual-yes, annual-energy usage of a typical American home. Gore's preferred mode of transportation between stops on his international publicity tour is his private jet, which spews out CO2 emissions at the rate of a small army of SUVs.

thank you Perez this kind of shit is ridiculous and there is NO EXCUSE!!!!

  30. marie says – reply to this

    130

It seems like Perez is against republicans. Why not show the biggest Hypocrite of all. Al Gore has started a "go green" compaign stating we have "10 years to shape up or our planet will be sent free-falling." Yet his home uses more electricity every month then the average american house does in one year. If I were Leonardo Dicaprio I would feel like such an idiot for jumping on this guys bandwagon. He claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces. That makes it right? That is like saying you are against killing animals, it is wrong and decided to wear the biggest fur coat you can find and claim it is okay because it used to belong to somee lse but they sold it to you, you didnt actually kill the animal yourself. If you stand for something then stand for it. Dont be a hypocrite and say you believe in something so much, humanity will die if it doesnt make changes, and then you yourself is one of the biggest causes of the problem you are claiming is so important.

  31. Teri says – reply to this

    131

Shockingly - hypocritical. Normal people could never afford this luxury to destroy the environment. We would have to make normal choices - like moving our family near our work place, or sacrifice and visit on the weekends. Sad to see that the privledged, truely take advantage of those privledges at the sake of the environment that they claim they are tying to preserve for all of us. I guess, until it infringes on what is convenient for them. I am sad to see that even Arnold is now above the 'law' the 'commoners' that he feels this is ok for him. What if all us commoners practiced this type of behavior. I bet we would have a tax imposed on us - or a fine, for offended the rest of humanity.

  36. Novel1 says – reply to this

    136

Obviously - never having children, Perez, you have no concept of how a major move affects children. I commend Arnold for wanting to be with his family each night but I think there could be a compromise here. My husband commutes 300 miles twice a week so he can be home each night but when work demands it - he stays overnight near his office. I think Arnold should work two days, be home one. Work two then be home on the weekends.

I live in Sacramento. And when he came to look at the governors Masion he and his wife didn't like it. It wasn't of their taste or size. (It must be nice to be that rich Arnold)…. They where about to have the city and state build them another one at tax payers expence. But for whatever reasons he decided not to. I believe becuase he knew he would get a lot of backlash for it. When Arnold was running for governor he and his family knew that they were more inlikely going to have to move to Sac. or close to it. I find it disappointing that he is using so much fual knowing how much it is and how bad it is for the earth. And on top of that he made major budget cuts to just about everything in California. Which is effecting a lot of people and not in a good way. He is going to push people out of California for so they can get a better education, jobs, and health care because they aren't going to be able to find it here. We need a Governor that really does care about the people of California and not his own pocket.

I'm from Sacramento and as always the folks from down south don't think much of our city. Maria came up and gave it some cursory look arounds but I knew she wasn't going to move the clan up here. She planted some sound bites in the media about what a wonderful community Sacramento was but reading between the lines was easy, "Not good enough for my family". Nancy Reagan wasn't pleased either but it's kind of funny in a way because Ronald Reagan chose a wonderful neighborhood (after vacating our decrepit Govenor's Mansion) for his family, it was a neighborhood with real people and loads of charm. His children could ride their bikes and play with other kids on the block. The only way you could tell that his house was different was the small guard shack in front and I think that the adjoining houses may have been occupied by security, but the houses are fabulous. I think he lived on 45th or 44th st., a big tree lined street where almost all the houses are huge two stories with old world charm and were built around the '1940's. I drove around Brentwood a couple of weeks ago and our "Fab Forties" can match up to Brentwood anytime. Everyone is falling all over themselves lately to channel Ronny but Arnold chose differentlyfor his family. I'm also sick of the governors having their celebratory balls in SoCal. If that's not snooty I don't know what is. We should start holding our NorCal water for ransom.

Re: sini – Hey moron, you are beyond full of shit. This year was the coldest year we've had on EARTH in nearly 100 years. The midwest of the US had more snow dumped on it than the last 5 years COMBINED and its not done yet.
Solar activity took a dive late last year and ever 'gain' made by global warming was wiped out in ONE YEAR. Now, one year does not a trend make, but if it continues into next year…and the year after that…then perhaps the Gore scientists, who apparently felt good about 'ending the scientific debate' after 5 years of study, will have to actually look at more data.
The solar activity plays a much bigger role than you think.
I'm all for pollution reduction but the anthropogenic global warming has a way to go before becoming a scientific law as Gore would suggest.

The governor should be setting a good example even if he were to commute once a week by car he would save an enormous amount of carbon. and yes it is hypocritical of Gore to also purchase carbon credits in order to fly all the time especially in a private jet but in order for people to tbe more sustainable and to reverse the massive amount of damage that has been done no one would be able to fly ever again! It is fairly evident that gbl warming is happening a lot of the issues we are starting to face globally are due to rising temps. Things like more extreme weather (tsunamis, drought) , also the capabilities to produce food in some areas is decreasing. Consider that a lot of the solutions offered up are not realistic. Everyone is jumping on the biofuel wagon but most people do not relaize that in order to produce enough fuel using corn a huge segment of the population wouldn't be able to eat beacue of the amount of space you would need for the corn. Also food will get more expensive as there is more competition for corn as a food product (as well as one to feed cattle) and a biofuel. And lastly on the biofuel issue the US government gives a lot of subsidies to farmers hurting people who traditionally produce corn in countries like Mexico. There is a whole range of issues, reppression and Human Rights to look at if we consider what the effects of mass use of corn 4 fuel. Let the gov. know this is not how you want to represented.

Hey Perez - Why not show Al Gore doing the same crap! Private planes, several homes (that were not built "green") — energy use out the roof.
Oh yeah, he's a liberal democrat so he gets a pardon, right??
Stick to the celeb gossip and quit trying to be some kind of political/moral authority blogger. Ughh. sick of it

Once again money talks and the environment suffers for it. Why doesn't Arnold take a commercial jet already headed from Sacramento to LA and reduce his carbon footprint?
