Doctors say it is safe to travel on a commercial jet while pregnant, but….

She's flown while pregnant with Shiloh, and that baby is doing just fine and turned out healthy. Angelina is very protective of her kids and wouldn't put them in any harm. She's an accomplished pilot and flying in the Austin area during the day time is nothing like JFK flying at night, with stormy weather over water. Two different pilots, location, and HELLO!!! Angelina is way more intelligent than JFK ever was!

You're all SO right. Piloting her little paper plane with her extensive (eye roll) experience is JUST as safe as flying on a commercial airliner with a professional pilot that flies almost every day. I'm sure parachuting down to earth would be a very soft landing- perfectly safe for baby! It's so safe you can even do it when you've recently FAINTED on a plane! I mean, since EVERYONE has to fly their plane recreationally, it's hardly a risk one could avoid. As a woman and a pilot I think she is sharing a great experience with her son. Everyone on here is being way to critical. The airplane she is flying is very safe and by having her VFR Private Pilots license she has every right to do what she is doing. She is even aloud to fly at night, as long as weather permits. JFK Jr. was a VFR pilot who encountered bad weather and lost special orientation. You must have an IFR rating to fly in bad weather. Flight rules and licensing are governed by the FAA, it’s not as simple getting a divers license. A lot of training, intelligence and dedication are required by the pilot in command.

What's wrong with a pregnant woman flying a plane? I'm four months pregnant, still drive my two kids around town to all their activities. Each time I get in the car, there's a certain risk of some idiot crashing into me. Should I hole myself up at home then and huddle in the shadows hoping the sun doesn't hurt me? Geez! Give it a break people! Angelina is flying at an airport, in nice weather, open skies in Austin. And if anything does happen, there will be people there to help out. I too, am a woman and a pilot. And here's the truth:
REGARDLESS of accumulated hours in the air, or flight rating status, it is COMPLETELY irresponsible for a woman in the state of pregnancy to be the sole pilot of a private airplane.
Riding as a PASSENGER? Fine. Different story altogether.
And for those of you who argue that this is about her being a WOMAN, or that piloting an aircraft is similar to that of driving a CAR, or a BOAT, (good lord) you are missing the point entirely.
As the PILOT and SOLE CARETAKER of the plane while it is in the air, Angelina is taking an unnecessary risk. And while "risk-taking" may be admirable and considered "cool" by others, in this case she is being foolish, plain and simple.
True, she may have a perfectly lovely day, with no turbulence, no inclement weather, and an engine that works like a charm.
But if there is a PROBLEM - and ANY good pilot will concur - she is in no condition to recover. Pregnant women respond to air pressure differently, and if you were to do some research before crying "anti-feminism!" you would agree that Ms. Jolie is INDEED being very irresponsible.

Pilots may continue to fly up to 30 weeks into a pregnancy providing the pregnancy is normal and without complications. If her doctor doesn't think she's fit her DOCTOR would pull her aviation medical which would cause her license to be suspended. I know of many women who have given birth to healthy babies after working right up to this date. She's not flying 35,000 ft in a pressurized cabin. She's flying a PRIVATE plane.
