"That KernWoman" is what we are calling her in Oklahoma City. I live about 13 miles to the north of her district and thankfully so, because she has a very trashy district. Thank goodness I didn't have to vote for or against her. As a Christian, we are taught to love the sinner, hate the sin. My best friend is a big ol' burly truck driving dude who acts more Nelly with me than my girliest of girlfriends. Kern's answer to a reporter asking about her son's sexual orientation was met with "That's something he'll have to answer". In other words, as a State Representative with a Southern Baptist preacher as a husband, they would probably rather not acknowledge their homo son. It's too bad. And what's so funny is she unwittingly became the largest fundraiser for GLBT organizations in Oklahoma. Oh, she'll get voted out. Just wait.
Not only does she as an elected representative of the people want to spout her opinion, she wants to manipulate the press to look like a martyr for it. She gets to have her cake and eat it too. Wonder what this investigation is going to cost the taxpayers of Oklahoma?
Wonder, if the situation were reversed, and gays made up a majority of the state, would she be on such a rant? Probably not; she'd probably cater to her largest constituency. Anything to stay in power.
Of course she's entitled to her opinion; one can just hope that the next elected representative of the people who opens his or her mouth with an opinion can express a reasonable and educated one. I agree with what everyone is saying about free speech, but when you make comments like her's in a public setting, as a public figure people are going to use their rights to free speech to say what they think about you in return. I am a republica and a Christian, and to me she is exactly what is wrong with some republican's and Christian's today. I would lay down my life for the homosexuals that I know and love, I have never told them that I agree with their relationship, but that has nothing to do with the people that they are.
