I am from Mississippi, and I survived Hurricane Katrina. The US Government did not forget the Katrina victumes. Mississippi is rebuilding and moving forward with plenty of US help. We also helped each other, we all wanted to rebuild and move on. Those folks down there in New Orleans are waiting on someone else to rebuild thier slums for them. They do not want to get up and work (some of them do, but most do not) and help rebuild thier houses. They want the Government to build new Apartments down there in the same hole so it can all happen again! Then they will say the Government put them in that hole and left them. Mississippi has rebuilt with help and by helping each other. Those folks down there in that whole waiting on someone else to do it for them need to just keep waiting. or get up and go to work and rebuild.
So please don't blame the US Government for Katrina.
