Being Britney Spears is not easy, especially when people break the law just to get a glimpse inside the pop star's life.

A whopping THIRTEEN employees of the UCLA Medical Center have been fired for snooping on Britney's confidential medical records during her stay there earlier this year.

Plus, another six people have been suspended and six doctors face disciplinary action.

So unprofesh!

Employees are only allowed to peruse records if they are directly caring for a patient. Violating that not only goes against the hospital's code of conduct, but its' against the law too.

And, what's worse, the same thing happened to Britney when she gave birth to Small Fry at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica a few years ago.

"It's not only surprising, it's very frustrating and it's very disappointing," said Jeri Simpson, the Santa Monica hospital's director of human resources, who handled the discipline in the first instance.

"I feel like we do everything that we possibly can to ensure the privacy of our patients and I know we feel horrible that it happened again. I don't know what it is about this particular person, I don't know what it is about her."

Sucks for Britney. Shit, that would suck for anyone!

That sucks. People are so blatantly disrespectful these days, and in hospitals no less! I was in the hospital for a couple months one time, and in that time my social security number was stolen and a long stream of credit cards was opened in my name. Sad how some horrible actions people choose to partake in smears the name of even the most highly-regarded facilities.

Re: Aurora – If you're a nurse, then you need a big wake-up call refresher course on medical ethics. You are every hospital and patient's nightmare. Trusting that their medical privacy will be respected while too ill to fend for themselves is an integral part of the patient's care package. You need to fight back up that slippery slope and regain what you've somehow lost professionally if you are to consider yourself a good nurse.

Re: Aurora – You have no bloody business peeking at other people's files. You're a busybody, and worse yet, you seem to justify it with nothing at all. Your ass should get fired, too.

This isn't in fact, recent news. But I will be sure to give it my all. I adore Britney Spears, to an extent. But sounds like exaggeration to me.

To hospital employees out there who have access to patient records, here's a warning for you. A RED FLAG goes up right next to your name in IT (information technology) departments. All hospitals do this, in fact, you're not even permitted to look up your own med. info unless you have signed a release form. They can do more than just fire, they fine you 100,000 bucks, 10 years in jail or both.

  19. Stewzie says – reply to this

    119

What ever you feel about Britney, she deserves her privacy. The fact that a medical professional snooped in her file is reprehensible. If I were her I would sue the hell out of that hospital and all the staff who viloated that trust. It's just inforgivable what they did.

Re: Aurora – You are absolute SLIME! Not only should you loose your license to be a nurse, you should be admitted to a mental health faciltiy. Perhaps they can fix what is so wrong with you. You don't deserve to call yourself a professional. I hope and pray someday you are busted for your lack of morals and loose your license.

    121

ohh i was kidding of course. not funny and i'd never do that.

  22. AAD says – reply to this

    122

…that would suck for anyone … I have a feeling that this happens to a lot of people and is just the tip of a larger underlying problem of confidentiality and policy in a hospital setting… it's likely more people were paying attention to the behaviour around her particular records and monitoring the handling as well as the obvious profits $$ in sharing the information unlike the typical hospital visitor…

    123

Re: HIPPA – Actually, it's spelled HIPAA, and it's not 10 years in prison, but five. Thanks for doing your fact-checking!

  24. Lola says – reply to this

    124

Re: Aurora – As others have said, you deserve to be sacked along with the rest of them if you behave in an unprofessional manner. It is the law which protects a person's privacy re their medical records and for good reason. If you take it upon yourself to look at stuff which doesn't concern you (legally or professionally) just to have a nose, then you are a disgrace to the whole nursing profession. People need to have confidence when admitted to hospital or in contact with any health provider that their information will be protected and treated with the strictest confidentiality. I don't care if the person is well known like Britney Spears, or Joe Bloggs down the street. Obviously Ms Spears is a target because money can be made by supplying information to gossip rags, etc. But the law is the law and these so-called professional broke it. They got what they deserve.

    125

Ha she is in Claire's! I work there…thaat is soooo weird.

  26. Medical Records Girl says – reply to this

    126

I work directly with medical records. Just to get it straight, it's HIPAA, not HIPPA…but I know what you all are talking about. I work at a large medical center. we have a number of "known people" who are treated there. If there is any case that comes in if we have to access that record, either with the patient's real name or their alias we must inform our supervisor AND the department director of the date, the time, and the reason we accessed it. Otherwise we're out on our asses. AS IT SHOULD BE. This is privileged information. ALL OF THEIR ASSES SHOULD BE CANNED. PRONTO.

  27. Yak says – reply to this

    127

As much as I can't stand the bizarre phenomena that is "Britney", I do respect her right to what little privacy she is entitled to. I'm glad all those dumb ass jerks lost their jobs. I wish the vermin paparazzi were next.
