A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, but her father was a staunch Republican. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to high taxes and welfare programs.
He stopped her and asked her, "How are you doing in school?"
She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA, but it was really tough. She had to study all the time and ever had time to go out and party. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because she was spending all her time studying. On top of that, the part-time job her father insisted she keep left absolutely no time for anything else.
He asked, "How is your friend Mary?"
She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, didn't have a job, and went to all the parties. She was always complaining about not having any money, but didn't want to work. Why, she often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.

Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and request that 1.0 be taken off her 4.0 and given it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a respectable 3.0 GPA. Then, she could also give her friend half the money she'd earned from her job so that her friend would no longer be broke.
The daughter angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair. I worked really hard for my grades and money, and Mary just loafs. Why should her laziness and irresponsibility be rewarded with half of what I've worked for?"
The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party

    105

and this is new news?? come on people, get it together! this is exactly why this country needs ron paul. all of our financial decisions have been stripped from us and we're told to pay more taxes, go into more credit debt, to help out a bunch of talking heads in suits who think they know what's best for us. WE know what's best for us. by voting for ron paul (who btw wants to eliminate the fed, the IRS, the income tax, the war, and our 130 military bases around the world that are sucking up our $) you will be back in control of your life and your wallet. hello 401k?? if the gov't thought we were capable of making our own responsible monetary decisions then there would be no penalty for early withdrawl. that penalty says "the plebs are too stupid to decide what to do with their savings and when it's okay to do it." we need to take the power back. RAGE!

Why are we STILL listening to this guy? He thinks that using big, long, not-often-used words makes him sound so intelligent, ooooh nobody can understand him, oooooh he is so intelligent, and I believe he probably singlehandedly put us in this trouble to begin with! Just go home and eat your Alzheimer pills already!!!! Disappear!!!!!

When will all of you stop saying "republicans did this" or "Vote democrat". It has nothing to do with their party affiliation..it has to do with WHAT THEY BELIEVE!!!!! If you were smart you would stop talking about "sides" and start looking at the only candidate that can save our country….Look up Ron Paul and see how he can make all the difference

  15. RICH PEOPLE ARE LOVING THE CRAPPY ECONOMY says – reply to this

    115

This "recession" just means a bargain basement sale for all the rich 1%ers.
They will be buying up all the cheap shares of stock and inexpensive real estate they can handle, while the middle class continues to devolve into lower class hell, stuggling to pay for $4 a gallon gas, overpriced groceries, and outrageously expensive health care.

  16. Debi says – reply to this

    116

THANK YOU, BUSH! THANK YOU, wit-less Republican voters. It really doesn't matter WHO wins the white house, now, does it? Oh, I'm sure the Retardicans will come up with some inane excuse how the next Dem prez screwed us out of our old "superpower" status.
Oh, wait, that $600 check you'll get in the mail will fix this problem!! What a coincidence this vote buy-off occurs right before the presidential election!!!

    So right!
And with the soaring gas prices, that $600 will probably go to buy gas.
Just a roundabout way of handing a huge chunk of tax-payers gov. money over to Big Oil.

  21. Not Recession - DEPRESSION! says – reply to this

    121

The thing that is ruining our country has been the continued outsourcing of jobs to India, Mexico, & China. Does anyone realize just how many BILLIONS of jobs have been lost in this Country due to the outsourcing of jobs to all these 3rd world countries?? IS IT ANY WONDER THAT THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET, BECAUSE CORPORATE AMERICA IS ALLOWED TO GIVE ALL OF OUR JOBS AWAY IN ORDER SO SAVE THEM MONEY. THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONTINUED TO BE ALLOWED. If a company doesn't have the financial ability to keep itself solvent by hiring U.S workers, they should fail, but the current president props up these companies and gives nothing to a quickly disappearing middle class in this country.
As a result of outsourcing, jobs are lost, taxes go up, because of the diminished workforce, fuel goes up, natural gas is horribly expensive, property taxes go up, and as a result of all of this, the housing market collapses because people cannot pay to live anymore. Both mother and father have to work, and children are left to be tended by strangers - our whole society is eroding out from under us.

    122

Greenspan would know–he set us up for this. Also, this doesn't have anything to do with Bush. It has a lot to do with the sub-prime mortgage and all of the morons who aren't willing to take personal responsibility for their actions. If Bernanke would stop lowering the interest rate and the federal funds rate, then the dollar would magically stop depreciating.

Instead of everyone talking about who started what, when and how…how about asking Mr. Greenspan about his good friend who made $15 BILLION with a "B" off our economy after being advised directly by Mr. Greenspan…I have a serious problem with someone of his stature giving "good advice" to an associate who has the ability to take advantage of the sub-prime mortgage sector. Good job, Mr. Greenspan…you've definitely put America in a really good place!

Re: nat – It's wonderful that you guys keep posting things about how "we" voted these people in and how "we" ruined our economy. I for one have not had the privelage to vote in a Presidential election in this country until this year. I did not choose the past 4 office holders, and yet people all across America are just like me….this is the "we" that will have to deal with this situation. The "we" that will bail this country out did not get it in this situation in the first place so stop throwing stone across the pond, making generalizations about things you obviously haven't fully considered.

That said, I'm moving to France. lol

We need to EXPORT to generate revenue….the Mid West a.k.a. Bible Belt could be our saviour. They got more meth labs out there than cows and corn. Meth is like Acura and Lexus in Japan- it only exists in the US and people will pay triple the value to say they have it!

  33. Greenspan is a traitor says – reply to this

    133

This traitor 'solves' the damage caused by reckless investment in the dot.com industry by letting the public reckless invest in the real estate market. How do you solve one bubble burst by inflating another (real estate)? This man has helped the rich steal your money, your property values, and your retirement, and now he goes to OPEC and advises them to depeg the dollar. This man is helping to create and worsen the damage so that they can fix it with the Amero, while they wipe out what is left of the wealth of the common man. Sadly there is nothing we can do…..just stockpile some food for the bumpy ride.
