Pete's Suicide Confession!

In an effort to encourage students suffering from mental illness to get help, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has revealed that he was once so depressed he tried to kill himself.
Wentz has joined diva Mary J. Blige and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan to front the Jed Foundation's Half Of Us campaign, which is aimed at cutting student suicide rates.
Wentz, Blige and Corgan sat for interviews, in which they detail their darkest hours. The interviews appear on MTV's college channel mtvU.
In Wentz's video he admits to being paralysed by anxiety and depression at the beginning of his career and he felt so lost and alone he attempted suicide.
"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's (song) Hallelujah and sat there and took a bunch of (prescription drug) Adavan in a Best Buy (store) parking lot.
"And I called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Adavan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring my words, so he called my mom and my mom called me and she came and got me and we went to the hospital.
"I came home and we realised that we needed to do more than just keep (my) head above water. It's not really about keeping your head above water, it's about feeling all right and feeling safe in your own skin. It's not about keeping your head above water and barely keep going."

There is no such thing as a suicide "attempt". If one wants to do it they will do it. Blow their head off, jump off a bridge, etc… Everything else is a cry for help and attention. Wentz is pathetic.
That is amazing that he and other celebrities would do that. As someone who has thought about it myself it means a lot to see that even they have suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts or actions before. To come out and talk about it in an attempt to help others is so courageous. Thank you.
and to everyone who said he should of you are so stupid no one should do that there is always a better answer and there are suicide attempts no one knows how much it will take to kill them and if it does not kill them thank god and hopefully someone is there to take notice and try to help. You have no idea who he is there is probably someone in your life who can relate and if they committed suicide you would be devestated and perhaps fall into depression yourself. Depression is a very large problem it's not something to joke about or take lightly.

Wow!!! I actually really connected with Mary J. and Billy Corgan as well! I am a struggling musician/visual artist and I have felt at the end of my rope for some time…since I am not exactly a teenager(I am 41),I have always thought it is too late for me! THANK YOU,Perez, for posting this…..I had no idea there was such a honest resource out there that I could actually relate with!

They're doing all this for a good cause. Of course, the reason Wentz is still alive is because it is nearly impossible to commit suicide with Ativan (not Adavan). The benzodiazepine class of drugs is used because of their safety. Your stomach couldn't fit enough Ativan to lead to death… you'd just pass out for a day or two. I wouldn't suggest anybody try this however…
There's a reason that this class of drugs replaced the much more dangerous barbiturates, which was what Monroe used to end it all.
Suicide is bad. So is improper use of prescribed medication.

This is a serious issue. I'm glad there is more press about it recently. Please, if you're struggling with your daily life, don't ever feel that reaching out for help is a taboo, or that you're "nuts."
I lost a friend to suicide at the beginning of the semester, and I've been struggling with ways to cope with this loss.
A good read is "Night Falls Fast: Understanding Suicide" by this one author, I forget her entire name, but part of it is Jamison.

In Alternative Press, years ago, he confessed this same story…almost. However, he said he had gone into best buy, bought "from under the cork tree", and was listening to his OWN CD while he attempted to commit suicide. He didn't say he was listening to Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah".

ok, he tries to kill himself in a best buy parking lot? Where people can see him? And he calls somebody during his OD? He didn't want to kill himself. He wanted attention. But if anyone needs attention, there is always someone there to listen to you. Even a school counsellor. If you are seriously depressed to where you being completely serious about killing yourself. Talk to someone. Even if it's a random person. Someone to listen usually helps.
Pffft on that whole story.
First off, this is way old. He discussed his suicide attempt in the press years ago, and the Half of Us campaign started ages ago.
That being said, i love that he's so open about it and i have great respect for what he does.

It's not just teenagers either with these problems, it's at any age, i've suffered from both of anxiety and depression and i take antidepressants and i still find it hard, the hardest part is not just the illness but how other people treat you when you are not coping and how frustrated they become with you, you lose a lot of friends too, if you can find a supportive person who won't make you feel worse for not coping then you have a better chance of beating it, a good psychologist or doctor will help too if you don't have the friends for support reach out to anyone who will listen and not put you down.
Re: Teri – Ativan is for anxiety, anxiety is not like the anxiety one feels when they are nervous it's a constant feeling of being on edge and not comfortable in your own skin, there are many things that can trigger it, depression can come due to the anxiety and how much it stops you from doing every day things, or you can get anxiety symptoms from depression, there are more complex biological things that can trigger anxiety too, someone with severe anxiety can sometimes have panic attacks too, having depression with anxiety does make it much more complicated, so i do know how he felt, as i have the same thing, though i've never tried suicide, hope i never will but it is a fear that it might get that bad.
Adavan? Ha! Aka Ativan or Lorazepam. A great benzo. It will make you very sleepy but you would need to take lots in order to induce respiratory depression. Just saying.
