When you're born it is automatically assumed that you will be a heterosexual until you decide otherwise, and then should you decide that you are a homosexual you have to spend the rest of your life defending your right to love whom you choose. When the world accepts that either way of life is perfectly normal and it's fine to be either, maybe the gay community will "shut up" because they won't have to constantly defend themselves against prejudice anymore. It infuriates me when ignorant, close-minded people are put into positions of influence.

I work in an office with dozens of people, male and female, and not once have we discussed our sexual tastes or activities. I once thought gays were just people like everyone else but they're not. Their gayness is the only interest they have in life and they are only happy when describing their private sexual exploits to people who don't care to hear. Heterosexuals don't discuss their sex lives with strangers or casual acquaintances, why can't gays keep their sex lives private too?
For all of you wondering why the gay community feels the need to have parades and get on soap boxes, you're absolutely right. We should really cut that out. Clearly, history has shown that the only way of emancipating yourself from second-class citizenship has been to shut up and do nothing. Just look at the African American community; good thing they sat idly by while their rights were handed to them, otherwise they might have risked pissing off the white people, heaven forbid. Thank you, Rosa Parks, for giving up your seat and not making a fuss. That kind of passivity really showed the white men in power that you were ready to share their water fountain.

A lot of you bring up the validity of the statement that bedroom talk should stay in the bedroom. However, he targeted a specific group and called it perverted based on sexual preference. That's not really ok. Maybe the polarization of gays/straights wouldn't be so defined if there was less extravagance in terms of parades, bumper stickers, etc. but then again, sexuality is a large part of human life and there's nothing wrong with wanting to celebrate it and feeling connected to others who experience sex in the same way you do. Even though I'm straight, I don't like it when people look at me and see me as a straight girl before they see me as an individual which is very often the case. I'd still like to be looked at in terms of my personal characteristics before my sexuality even though I am in no way ashamed of it.

I think everyone is taking this out of context. I believe what he means in that what goes on in anyones bedrooms is private-gay or straight, and to talk about it in the workroom is a bit tasteless and unnecessary (and I know we all know this is not the only aspect of being gay-I think he was trying to make a point). The context is if someone gets fired in the workplace for being GLTG, thats unfair and their should have equity laws. Well his argument is it shouldn't even be and issue and leave your personal live at home no matter what. He claims that if you give equity laws to someone, someone else is going to be discriminated against in turn (thing about that- its just common sense). Read his interview with Just Out. Now I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but when you read it in context its not hateful.

Ok, this is a weird statement that should have been thought more thoroughly before he opened his mouth. So yeah, we don't want to hear about what they do in the bedroom but that is true for everyone! Not just gay people. Exactly how many gay people has he heard talk about their bedroom? In fact I think straight people talk more openly about it than gay people (I am not gay) but I hear many people talk about what they did the night before…and they are obviously straight…they really tell all…I know a few gay people and they have NEVER told me anything And I have never heard any gay people describe what they do. Another weird point in his statement is "don't talk about it" Is he meaning just sex or being gay period? If he is meaing being gay and that's it than that is wrong because that is who they are. As long as they aren't physically or mentally hurting anyone then what is the big freakin' deal?
This guy is right. I have lots of gay friends, and they do tend to talk a lot about their same-sex encounters like they have to prove who they are or need to be very open about it in order to feel a part of their community. This is how you alienate yourself; it's not due to homophobia.
Remember when Ellen came out years back, and then all her TV show suddenly fully revovled around her being a lesbian? People stopped watching — not because they were homophobic but because they were bored. SHUT UP ABOUT IT ALREADY.
