Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is working on on a sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, the longest-running musical in Broadway history.
Webber proclaims, “I’ve made a decision today that I will do The Phantom of the Opera sequel. And I have met with a couple people today who have persuaded me to do it, who I will not reveal, but it’s a very exciting day for me. . . It’s going to be very exciting, and I can reveal that it will be set in New York.”
Oh goodie. New Phantom songs for auditioners to massacre!

I cannot stand webber! WHY do we have to have ANOTHER musical. they're all money making tourist shows and not real theatre at all. BOO!

This has potential if done right, and it could be a smash success if the time is put into it and they hire excellent singers that can at least hold a candle to the original London cast. Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler do not compare, they are actors that can sing NOT classically trained Broadway performers. I will see the show if it gets great reviews, otherwise I will ignore its existence. Oh, and if you're in Vegas go see it at the Venetian. Much, much better than the traveling cast and it even trumps Broadway! The most amazing set I've ever seen.

This is awful… the ending was perfect the way it was. This makes no since at all.
The musical starts with the future. What is he going to do? Have Christine go back and find the Phantom? While she is with Raoul… this WILL NOT WORK.
I found out about this almost a year ago!! good job perez!!! its based on the novel phantom in manhatten, it shows the phantom following christine to new york where she is a famous soprano and she has a son with raoul!
i love sarah, but i prefer emmy rossum and gerard butler is my faveourite phantom!!!!!! i do like ana marina though oh and anthony warlow, their touring australia now with the origional……..

Sarah Brightman is the ONLY Christine, but I think she's moved on from this now. She's sold over 26m records and has a new album and movie to promote, as well as commitments for the next few years, so I think she's moved on. Although I would pay BIG money to see her, I'm with you Perez!!

I am a HUGE phan and I'm not down with that. Gaston Leroux only wrote phantom of the opera, no sequel intended, and that's what ALW should stick to as far as I'm concerned.
Good Lord, first the movie now this? I've known about this for about a year now, but seriously, this is not necessary. ALW is a whore to go through with this. He was once my favorite, but since the movie, I've lost most of my respect for him. I'm familiar with all of his work, and all I can say is that he's a decent composer, but he's no Sondheim or Hammerstein. This is obviously a cash cow. The cast is Josh Gorban (yay) and Katherine Jenkins (boo), which is a hell of a lot better than Emmy-one-face-self-proclaimed-opera-singer-but-has-poor-training-Rossum and Gerard-can-barely-carry-a-tune-Butler. But I'm tired of Broadway selling out, because I love it so much.
