The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

Why did U watch The Hills?
the main reason i watched the show was out of boredom and my excessive procrastination habit. next, because i HATE lauren and i think shes sooo annoying and the kind of girl i would also HATE in real life. shes like obsessed with her friends and doesnt expect them to be able to make a choice that wouldnt put her first, but get real people arent going to be so lame and loyal all the time, people have conflicting desires. sorry, blabber. and next, i LOVE whitney and wish i could look like her and talk like her and be an overall babe, like her.
i also love heidi but her poor face! and then she decides to draw MORE attention to her awfully injected lips with pearly pink lipstick !!!!?@!and did the entire shape of her head change, or is that just me?

OK #1 I have a LIFE… and #2 I know 85% of the hills IS fake! It's scripted from some even like when "Lauren saw Brody at her appartment with different colored nail polish than earlier that night" The producers said we have to get that on tape and make it SO much better than it is in real life!!! Half truths….. People tell those everyday!~ on tv it's awesome though. that's why i watch!

The Hills, by far, has got to be the fakest, surreal, immature, not to mention STUPID show I have seen. I mean come one, reality tv? REALITY TV? It seems majorly scripted, wait, it IS scripted. Lauren, Audrina, Heidi, Spencer, the whole gang, is all FAKE. Lauren ruins her dress and of course she gets a new one! Her mysterious Parisian lover boy takes her out, in her white dress, when its raining, while she's working, yet nothing happens to her job or her dress. Wake up people, this all just simply BS. Real life is far from this and this show is just promoting, "Hey, I can be a Teen Vouge intern, I can ruin my dress and wear a brand new one too!". Absolutely no respect what so ever! And Spencer and Heidi? Well, no comment on that! As for Lauren, well sweetie, your 15 mins of fame will be over soon. You're famous for NOTHING. Because lets see, you ate off of mommy and daddy's money, you're a fashion school drop out, and MTV just picked you up and whored your ass for money. Yeah guys, some fame all right. Jeez, do you even wonder what your kids and your family think about you? No wonder every1 in LA is drugged our coked out. All petty, life-less MORONS.

Well everyone watches the hills (including me) because it was the best thing on cable last night (late night and especially because it was the premiere). i hope people recognize the difference between broadcast and cable, ie. superbowl (broadcast) vs. MTV (cable). Congrats to hills, though. interested to see how the rest of the season goes in terms of ratings.

Ratings are not reported by the number of TVs left on. People fill out logs of their viewing and turn it in to Nielsen. You would think Perez would know. Its not like he has his own TV show!!! no one is "monitoring" your tv…..yet.

Because fake or not, these people are completely hilarious. All 'reality' shows made in L.A are- their 'reality' is not what you would call a life. Makes me feel better about my own, at least my concerns are far greater than some blonde girl with plastic tits. I would rather view that, than say the usual slew of poorly scripted american sit coms complete with canned laughter.

I watched the show because it's interesting! I love Audrina and Brody! The two are extremely chill and relaxed. But honestly, I could care less if it were real or scripted. TV is TV; it is what it is…entertainment! No one said it was a documentary seeking an Oscar nod. Enjoy it and stop trying to bash the show because the girls are milking there time at the top for all it's worth. You would too had you obtained an opportunity to do so. Keep it up girls from "The Hills!"

I watch this trash tv show just because it remains me of the latin telenovelas. The fake drama, fake friendships, fake jobs and fake apartments are so dreamy american coooooooool, and I sit on my azz daydreaming that I was a blonde rich chunky chic from perfect orange county making it in the big city and even the world. The drama is a big plus, since it is every-other-day I run into my nemesis at every-other-event. Is so intense that every mag has them in the covers…can't wait to see them in the serious grown up news!! In a serious note, I don't watch on tv to give them ratings. I don't buy a mag just for them or anything in that sense. It's FAKE and cheesy and it does remind me of telenovelas. I just wish they said the truth, maybe they can get their SAG someday, lol!!

Three reasons it was watched by so many people:
1. Writer's strike- people have been craving any kind of new television, scripted or "reality."
2. It's incredibly aesthetically pleasing. Beautiful people, clothes, location all make you wish you were these people.
3. They're basically celebrities now, so we get to see "famous" people in their "real" life, which is obviously an addiction because of the popularity of tabloids and this website!
for some strange reason i find the fakeness of the hills alot more interesting than my own life….

the reason why I watch the show is because I was interested in how this season is going be. how much they grew up as a person. I also wanted to see if there would be a slight chance of heidi and lauren becoming bestfriends. I think heidi only visited lauren (next episode) because she is having troubles with her boyfriend\fiance (spencer). she has to face the fact that lauren was right. I guess that is what happens when you put boys before your bestfriend.
