The ratings are in and…..
The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

It's simple Perez. The show is frikin' addicting, the drama is just too much too NOT want to watch. Plus Im team Lauren so i have to support her. Although…I do miss Lauren & Heidi I wish they'd be friends already and spencer would like…die or somthing. LOVE the show. It's so good. I dont even care if it's not real. LOTS of shows aren't real, who gives a sh*t if it's good?

I watch The Hills because it is so NOT like my life. They dont have any real worries except who to date and who to bitch about. They live in their own little world and its a laugh to watch how serious they are about their superficial lives. Pure escapism TV! Its great!
I watch The Hills because the life of Lauren seems just so perfect.. I wanna live in LA and date cute guys, party all the time and just relax in the hot weather… I mean, here in Sweden it's cold 3/4 of the year - sounds like fun?? NO! The Hills have made me wanna go to LA and I will, next year, so watch out for a blonde girl as from October 2008

i stopped watching it during the second season, i graduated college, and i guess maybe the phase in my life where i sit on the couch watching mtv and avoiding homework everyday is over. i actually have REAL things to do now, which means i could care less about watching shows like the hills.
Never watched it before…. but YOU, Perez talk about it so much, I admit, I was curious. Big mistake. Was the 1st and last time I'll be watching.
Love the show, not sure if its real or not, its just very entertaining and yes I need to get a life.

Just like any other crap thats all TV, most of it is horribley scripted- this just follows them around doing what they would normally be doing they have just learned how to alter and play it up for the audience, so if you really have no clue why people like it your really alot more ignorant than you let on, its the same reason people like your ridiculous web site- because we live in a vouyeristic world where celebrities are our escape from normal life. I watch it cause it is good! I know it is not "REAL" but you get cought up in it and it doesn't matter. It is highly entertaining to me. I have always loved reality shows and I do realize they are edited all to hell and you don't really see everything but I can't help but get sucked in.

I did watch the hills the other night, not because I think it is real oh hell no…I have seen where they will do like 3 takes to get the perfect shot of Lauren leaving and blah blah blah…but it is a good "real" soap oprah…I mean come on…someones life can not be THAT interesting…and it keeps you guessing…like I know that Heidi and Spencer are together but how do they get back together…just little questions like that. The Hills is just a fun show to watch….SOMETHING has to be real on there and its fun to figure out

I know it's not totally real, but we've gotten a taste of the real characters through the years and so it is interesting to watch their lives and it's easy to tell what's actually real. Lauren's dress incident- totally real!
I watch it because whenever i turn on MTV they are playing it constantly on repeat… repeat…repeat!!! Also has anyone ever seen spencer and heidi ever make out like full blown SNOG?? nope……. her tongue would prob get caught in his teeth….

The show is highly rated because as hard as you, Heidi and Spencer may try, Lauren has a huge fan base! In fact, you made her more famous by trying to get people to hate her all because she wouldn't let you in to her party forever ago. Everyone knows Heidi and Spencer completely make up their own story lines in the show, it is obvious. No one actually believes Heidi really left Spencer and went to Colorado and then told him to move out. That was clearly Spencer's attempt to make Heidi more likable in the eyes of the consumer. I bet the ratings would go up even more if those two were off the show!

I watch the Hillz every season and I was very disappointed Monday nite. They have went to total scripting. Heidi and Spencer's acting were awful. They have really went down hill this season.

this show is SOO good. All the teens are looking for some good drama, whether its real or not. helooo… laguna beach? that did so well and duhh it was scripted. its still a really entertaining show. first of all the clothes are FABULOUS and its kind of like gossip girls.. while you see alll teh drama you are shows some really amazing clothes. IM SO GLAD IT DID THIS WELL!!! YAY THE HILLSS!!
Seriously, Monday's premiere episode was the 1st time I've ever watched the Hills. And the only reason I watched was because Mariah was gonna be on it! And ratings just prove that most people wanted to watch it cause of Miss Mariah! : ) Ahhh, Mariah, I love you !!!!! : )

Hi Perez, I watched the Hills cause it have been a long time i 'have not watched it(I think thats the same for other ppl…they missed the fake drama!!) then, as im french I wanted to see how they filmed Paris, and it was so cliché!! the Ritz, the Bal, and the dandy Parisian musician on his Vespa….!! PLEASE! not all Parisians wear slim pants !! although they are classier than Californians… Its boring but I can"t get enough of the hills!! xx

I can't tell you why everyone else watches the hills, but i can tell you why i do. I live in a SMALL Texas town where the most exciting thing is to read the police beat. The Hills is a way to escape that and get an insiders look inside all the clubs, restaurants, and stores that we only read about.
First off its an amazing show! Even if it isn't the total truth its like watching every other show. the drama is hilarious which makes you want to stay tuned to it.
