The ratings are in and…..
The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

Well I confess I watched the show. I only enjoyed my Mimi, I thought they were reading a script, and they did not know how to read it. Also that Mustang girl had something done in her face.
The show kicks ass! I love it! I don't give a crap if it's fake or not…it's drama, and it's the kind of drama I enjoy.

I'm a stay-at-home mom who totally loves "The Hills"…I don't know what it is about that damn show, but I can't stop watching it! I stream it on mtv.ca because I usually miss it at night. I pay attention to the news and read the NY Times every day, so I stay well informed, but just love my brainless entertainment!

it's for the same reason people watch any sitcom or drama, because it's entertaining. the show is obviously edited, and promoting it as "reality tv" makes the characters a little bit more sympathetic, obviously some of it is fabricated, but some of it really is their lives. It's edited and put together the same way every television show is put together, for entertainment value. whether they call it reality tv or not it's entertaining. the important thing is for people to media literate, and since there are so many people who aren't, promoting it as reality tv is potentially dangerous to impressionable minds.

This is how low our society has sunk, nobodies like Heidi and Spencer, gag, pimped themselves out the entire off season and stirred up the buzz about their ordinary lives. Audrina's topless photos were leaked. Gossip sites and entertainment media feature these people ad naseum and we all tune in to see just what the big deal is. Now the real actors have to compete with reality tv for the attention so you have to get a DUI and go to jail or put out a sex tape to get anyone to care these days. The desperation of these people is pathetic. BTW, Heidi has morphed herself into a 40 year old woman that has gotten so much plastic surgery and foreign matter injected into her face that she is beyond recognizable. Her lips are hysterical, looks like she got stung by an entire hive of bees.

I'd watch The Hills regardless of who was on it. Young girls living in Hollywood… doing everything my friends & I do but just with more fame & money and in a cool setting. It's interesting. The girls on the show suck as people/friends but the concept of the show and how it is edited is what draws me in. There isn't anything else on TV like it. I just wish they would choose girls whos lives actually have drama… not scripted, lame faux "drama" that isn't even worth biting a nail.

I have a love/hate relationship with the show. I think it is a horrible show, but I can't stop myself. I guess it just entertains me when I have nothing better to do. It's very similar to the relationship I have with this website. I know I shouldn't support these things I see as bad, but it's entertaining! I hate it!!

the only reason they got such high ratings is because there is nothing else on. Everyone is waiting for new episodes of other shows that have been put on the back burner because of the writer's strike.

It was SO FAKE… did you notice that when Lauren was telling "whitney" that the frenchy called to take her on a motorcycle ride that the girl that she was talking to was BLACK…. soooo obviously not whitney!! They cut back and forth in the convo between whitney and Lauren, so they were never on screen together, and each time they flashed to Lauren, you could see the arm of the girl she was talking to, which was obviously black!
If they are going to make it fake, at least do it right!

the thing about the hills is that the previews are SOOO good so you think the show is going to be like that. BUT, everyyyyy single week the show ends up sucking HORRIBLY. mtv is just so damn good at making the previews for the show.
