The ratings are in and…..
The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

because it's so fake that its hilarious. i watch so can laugh along with the aftershow. that's the best part…mtv canada's hills aftershow.
heidi & spencer are entertaining. they make the show interesting. the rest is boring. LC is a hyprocritical bitch, Audrina is a dumb slut & Whitney is just a *yawn*.

I only watch it, cuz it's funny to me. And the premiere was stupid to me, so I didn't really watch it, just back and forth between another show.

I don't really care if its real or not. I love the drams on that show. The element that it might be real or somewhat real makes it even more appealing. I mean, pro wrestling is fake as hell and yet millions of people watch that..so I guess Hills is the same way.
now if Audrina would just jump off the top rope and land on Heidi, then the ratings would REALLY hit an all time high.

I watch it because it deals with alot of petty, and real, issues that arise between friends. While the characters are all hyperbolic with their acting, each represents a unique, and sometimes extreme, point of view. I wouldn't say the show is tastefully done, but it does reflect what alot of what young, upper middle class friend cliques go through.

I can't believe that people view Lauren as a role model. For the love of god, what does that girl DO? She designs average clothes and sells them at prices that are way too high, spends obscene amounts of money on extremely shallow things (hair, makeup, etc.), and allows her boring life to be filmed for MTV just for her fifteen minutes. I can't possibly see where a role model lies within that.
I watch The Hills because regardless of how real or fake it is I lovvvve it… I know people say it is fake but some of the things they do and say are things that girls do. And of course in hopes that there would be a scene or two with BRODYYY!

Because it is pure entertainment! Lauren is living the dream life all us girls wish we had lived at her age! (or at least we wanted to be friends with someone like her to get all the benefits that Lo and Audrina get.) We know they push storylines, etc. But who cares? This isn't PBS for chrissakes! It's MTV. Der. The only complaint is how obvious Heidi and Spencer's pushing of the storylines is! They are BAD actors! Don't kill me, but I actually kind of like Heidi. But, but, but Spencer is the biggest douche of all time and not at all entertaining to watch. He's not the guy we love to hate either. He's just annoying. The Hills needs a new bad-guy, I think!

You also have to take into account that a lot of people are on spring break from teens to college kids so you have a lot of viewers that don't have much to do and with no good shows on the other channels it comes down to watching the so ever fake The Hills.

OMG, I watched the show and I felt like a jack ass. I really wanted to watch it for the beautiful scenes of Paris and hoped to see some of the Crillon Ball, but of course the cut out anything worth seeing. I think MTV intentionally ruined that Alberta Ferretti dress, too… that pissed me off so bad! But Whitney and LC acted like a bunch of god damn robots, while Heidi looked even more plastic than before. That show's a joke, and while I slightly enjoyed last season, this season seems so rehashed and boring.
If it aint real, it's pretty much a reality to me. I used to have the greatest bbf but she met this guy who now controls her life! we can't even look at eachother more. I think that's why I'm so hooked on it!! I hate her bf like I hate Spencer!!
