The ratings are in and…..
The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

DUH! The Hills is freakin' AWESOME. Fake or not, it is a fun way to escape the dramz from everyday life. Also, it is fun to laugh at them and all their silly antics.
I like to watch the hills because i love to see who's wearing what and of course tha drama. && Perez quit frontin' you kno you watch it too! haha nah but it ROCKS!! I just F***kn' hate Spencer — I just want to bit him up myself. *_*

Who wouldn't want to watch the premiere of "The Hills" with scenic shots of Paris. I used to like to watch it because it paralled my life as a 22 year old with relationships and my burgeoning career. Now it has become totally contrived, the script hasn't changed that much. But its nice to see that Heidi is coming around a little, and realizing that there is nothing special about Spencer. It's not a crime to ditch your friends for boy, but its means that you're entirely misguided by the wrong things. What has not been clear is if there has been any growing on Lauren's part, its seems to me like she still is very emotional and likes attention.
I watch because I feel like I've known Lauren for 4 years now. I was a HUGE fan of Laguna Beach and I like seeing what she and her friends are up to! Now, if only Cami from season 3 would pop up on tv, I'd be a happy camper! Lo came around after for awhile and now STEPHEN is coming back, how could I miss this?

i think its because its attractive the clothes are pretty, the people are gorgeous and the things they do (clubs, paris, nice apartments) are glamourous.
fake or not its definetly an escape which is what television is about.

When getting ready for the ball and Lauren had the little curling iron mishap… what I don't understand is, why was her curling iron on (presumably an hour before this event as she's getting ready) yet later on as she gets on the moped she blatantly says she had gotten her hair done. What's the deal?

Come on, it's reality tv…why do any of us watch those shows? Because we get so addicted to it! Here are extraordinarily attractive twenty-something girls dabbling in the music and fashion industries and who have great social lives, involving always going to the latest hip clubs in L.A. What is there not to like!?! Everyone knows there is always more to the story than what reality tv shows, so what if they edit it to make it more dramatic…that's TV.

Reality Television is the new sitcom. The only reason reality shows call it reality, is the fact that they are filmed in real life environments. This is what interest viewers. Besides, what reality show is actually reality? Even some documentaries deviate from reality. The reality is people like drama whether it is real or fake, which is why people are addicted to this website. It is all about the Drama.
People watch it, I can only assume, because it has this weird, messed-up power over them.
I kept hearing about it and finally got up early enough on a Sunday to watch it (I'm in the UK) and I thought it was the strangest, fakest, most humourless show possible, featuring the dullest, least sparkly and interesting people imaginable. And not even the clothes are good!

LOVE IT! I love the music, the story, the fashion, the places, the drama…I love it all! It appeals to everyone. The girls are all gorgeous, even that skanky bitch Heidi. I love how the show is filmed; The whole look of things. I could care less if it is fake, even though most of it is not. I will watch every episode this season. Can't wait for the Lauren and Stephen reunion. So many memories from the Laguna Beach seasons. TEAM AUDRINA!!!

I think most realize that it is fake but it is so gosh damn funny, even my mom likes it. I have to Tivo forward through the Spencer parts but otherwise it is a great show…..
People watch the show because of idiot magazines and bloggers that make these fools famous. They are talent less and every one who watches the show should see there doctor immediately though if they did that they would end up on some dumb drug that treats the symptoms of their problems and not the course. They should go out side look at tree’s and nature and they may find some wisdom cuz they aren’t going to find it on the Hills.

its not about the show being GREAT or having 5 star ratings. They show good sides of the fashion industry, and its a fun show.
The reason i started watching it was because i identified with the situation between Lauren-Heidi-Spencer. It may not be "real" but they give you something to relate to, and sometimes thats just enough to feel a bit better, that youre not the only one going through it.
