The ratings are in and…..
The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

The hills is so darn addictive you want to watch these beautiful people( well minus heidi and spencer) living this glamorous life in L.A. The drama is so entertaining Team lauren bitches!!!!
You know when you're on the freeway and if there's a car crash, you look? That's why I watch the Hills.
Also because I'm 25 and 2 months away from being an attorney, and it makes me feel super awesome about myself.

i love the hills. who cares if its fake? its like a soap opera, almost like gossip girls. loveeeeeeeeeeeeee the hills.

it's easy as to why i love the show. the girls are awesome, the fashion is awesome, i love watching the night life and the obvious answer……ALL THE DRAMA!!!!

There is programming time given so that discussion can be facilitated with regards to the "Hills" by the studio audience. All a pathetic marketing ploy by the network to make the viewers of this show feel ……..validated I guess sadly. This show is a long running commercial.

ITS THE BEST SHOOOWWWWW! (other than Gilmore Girls) Scripted or not drama is good TV. Friends was not a real show but it was one of the BEST shows EVER! who cares if isnt real?!?!?!?!
I must admit, The Hills is a guilty pleasure for me! I'd equate it with Britney Spears. I know she can't sing well, and most of it is studio production, but watching her videos and performances (past performances) make me love her. The performance and entertainment value is so high, its worth it. Therefore, with The Hills, I'll be sitting there watchign the show saying, "omg you know they've already had this conversation and they had to retape it, just look at their non-expressive reactions and boredom!!" but the drama and entertainment value is too good to pass up! Even if it is highly contrived! haha
I know it's not real, but it's kind of like a soap opera but with more likable characters and a little bit more realistic than what soap operas offer.

it was obviously semi fake before….now they're all straight fucking puppets. i'm not gonna look forward to this season….if they are gonna be so fake about it they might as well give them some decent dialog.

I have been critical of Lauren, Hedi and all that had to do with the Hills…I was judging without watching. MTV has to pay dividends to Perez and all the other bloggers, tabloids out there because of you I learned about these people to begin with.
I had to tune in the premiere and see for myself. Who cares if its fake or not..it is a silly, but highly entertaining soap opera. The scenes in Paris, Colorado, really nice! Can't wait for next week! OMG can't believe I am tunning in. I have not watched a soap opera in ages…not even the Spanish ones!!!!! which I loved!!

because lauren reaches a new low every episode… i love when something bad happens to her and the camera like focuses in on her facial expression like its an oscar shot for 5 seconds too long
i watch it to make fun of how fake it is. and to make fun of how whitney says givenchy.
The show is addicting and although it's supposedly fake it is good. The only part I hate of the show is Heidi and Spencer, can they be any more boring????We dont care about their boring dumb fights, they have no friends, no life and are pathetic!!!
I watch it for the new clothes and fashion that they sport. They always give my wardrobe inspiration! Also, I am very guilty for somehow being sucked into the show. What other show can have a whole episode with absolutely NO plot- make you wait on edge for the next week hoping to get some satisfaction? Yet, it never seems to come! Its a vicious cycle and I not-so-secretly like it!

I watched it for Miss Mariah Carey. Actually, I didn't watch it. I just watched Mariah's performances.
I felt like such a loser the other night, after all of my bitching about how I was sick of seeing these people I had never heard of on this site and in magazines, I tuned into The Hills and watched it…and liked it. I watched it, honestly, out of mild curiosity as well as the promos MTV had, which made it look good. I think the show is semi-real, as in, I think the emotions, places, things they are doing, etc. are real…but a bunch of it has to be scripted! Lauren seemed to be the only one who wasn't acting…the rest, at times, seemed like they were reading from a script! I did, however, enjoy the story…it was like a bad soap…so of course I'll tune in again. Damn you, MTV…

I like The Hill because i find it so funny. I enjoy the fake drama, the reenactments AND THE BAD ACTING.
How much does MTV Networks pay you to promote their shows? Is it part of your deal with VH1? It is laughable that you know all the stats about mtv.com. Obviously, you are being fed the info from MTV. Perez, you used to be cooler before you sold out.

I watch it to take my mind off of this horrible world, for 30 minutes I get to watch a show where their lives are "perfect". Where they make thousands of dollars for being in a senseless glammed-up reality show and live in luxury and are treated as celebrities. A bad day for them is I burned my dress to the debutante ball. Their lives are empty, shallow, and it's nice to forget about real pain, and real life for 30 minutes each week.
I love The Hills. Yeah, it's all fake but it's just like any other soap opera. You can get lost in other people's problems!:) (and it's fun to make fun of because it does get pretty stupid at times) Perez, you know you love it too:)
It is a very simple show…. does not require any thinking, and its full of self absorbed, rich white people…and on top of that there are no pesky minorites…at all…..in Laguna Beach, The hills, colorado, paris, etc…..go figure??? (note sarcasm)

you know, its so so bad that its actually fun to watch (in small doses.) It's really fun to make fun of because it is so unrealistic when it comes to relationships. Ladies, this show is not something to model yourself after, these girls are dumb as fuck. I would think that this show is kind of embarassing for americans. I did watch online yesterday and it was hillarious to see the girls in paris. They try way to hard to be stylish, they're so over the top and american. Europeans understand the beauty in being natural and simple, classic chic. They stuck out in Paris like sore thumbs. They did however manage to find the french equivalent chochy boys that they are usually seen trolling around with in LA. The sad part is that the show is pedagogy, young girls see it and want to be like them and look like them. Sad.

I have been a regular viewer of "The Hills" since it began, and yes, I know that it's scripted and fake. However, I only watched because I love love love anything French and anything that shows Paris, France. I don't know if I'll continue to watch, and I was disappointed that Paris was only featured in one episode. We'll see!
