The ratings are in and…..
The season premiers of The Hills was the highest rated telecast for cable all year long so far!
It was also the highest rated episode ever of The Hills.
It even beat out broadcast television channels with the highest ratings for the night!
The premiere averaged over 4.7 million viewers.
WTF?!?!
Are all these people seriously watching the show?
Or did everyone just leave the house with MTV playing on their TV.
After the premiere, the performance by Mariah Carey resulted in an over 180% increase from the regular ratings in that normal time slot.
Even MTV online received record highs, with an increase of 29% of people going online to stream the episode. MTV.com delivered a staggering 2.2 million streams.
Do people actually watch the show because they think it's real or why?

I watched it because its good. Drama in there life is better then in mine.

I watch the Hills. But Lauren is the WORST actress in the entire world, and she is so awkward it's funny. She thinks she's so cool at certain points, and you just havvvve to laugh.

Because it's not my life. I can laugh at the silly little girls while I juggle two kids on a budget. They have no idea what is in store for them. Takes my mind off of lunch money, mortages, and car payments.
I tuned in at 11pm just to see Mariah and had to suffer through about 5 minutes of the show before Mariah was on. Can't believe so many people seem to like the show.
Full of drama even if it is staged..and people, in one way or another relate to some of it!

Why do you write about it and hype it up Perez!! This is exactly why people care…it's the hype.
You don't watch primetime dramas because they're real. We know Grey's Anatomy, Lost, 24, etc., aren't real, but we still watch them. Although The Hills is based on the idea of a reality show, we pretty much accept that it isn't. But you can't deny that it has some entertainment value. Even at that, it appears more realistic than primetime shows.

i dont believe it is real i just love shows with that much drama. i turned the t.v. off just before mariah carrey came on. i dislike her very much. shes old new for me. i notice hiedi got botox or whatever, but i thinks its a bad job she looks too fake now. i use to think she was pretty but now, not so much.

Yeah… un the Hills is toatally effing fake.. but its like waht else is there on television these days… every show is scripted aka psuedo reality.. its an escape and a fantasy.. LC and co are truly boring, talentless, mindless, lacking in most every area.. but i still watch… i know-we alll do- its like we think or want waht they portray… that is why they are so sucessful if u really think about it- honestly… truth be told theres nothing else as remotley falsey entertaining on tv these days……

i watch the show cause it is entertining. i've come to terms with the fact that its not real; but really who cares? its just another scripted show, just like the other billion out there. why are we all hateing on this one? some of the things that are on the show are real things that happen to real people; not nececarily them but still people, and it is cool to watch people get through them; real or not.

Believe it or not- I really like the show. Some say its not really reality, but "all" reality shows have some degree of scripting. One thing they all are and thats tv entertainment- love it or leave it.

I tried to stomach watching The Hills ONE time, and it was the worst "reality" show I've ever seen! The only reason it got high ratings is because of the NUDE PICTURES that surfaced of Audrina last week!

I think it's cause a lot of people that started watching Laguna Beach in their teens are now watching The Hillss cause there's not a lot going on in that time slot. Plus it gets hyped sooooo much for weeks before it's happening, everyone wants to know what happened.

I think the reason people watch it is because its a fantasy. The fact that its not real is what makes it alluring. What attracts viewers are: the designer clothes, amazing job, gorgeous people, fabulous home, exclusive clubs etc. No one's life is the way its portrayed in the Hills (even the people in the hills like Lauren they have to make shit up). If everything was the way it was in real life no one would watch TV. Remember TV is an escape from reality.

The Hills is the dumbest show ever and that makes it like the best entertainment! The way every scene is awkward and the way the voice overs DON'T match is hilarious. It's more of a comedy. Like do you really think that Heidi's parents would really act calm and cool when their precious fake tan snow bunny is fighting with her homo bf in their living room?! I guess the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree when it comes to acting. o Ya, and i love how after every episode i dislike someone different. I actually feel bad for Spencer now. heidi is a bith and she's lucky to have any man..
