Man jailed for microwaving baby
A jury in Texas has sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for severely burning his two-month-old daughter in a microwave oven last year.
The jury rejected Joshua Mauldin's defence that he was insane when he placed his daughter Ana in the oven.
Prosecutors said Mauldin had a history of violence, lying about being mentally ill and was angry about his marriage.
Ana, now aged one, suffered second and third-degree burns to her face and left side and required two skin grafts.
Part of her left ear had to be amputated.
Her foster mother, Heather Croxton, told the court of the painful daily treatments Ana has had to undergo since being left in the microwave for up to 20 seconds.
"There is no excuse for your actions and I hate that one day you will be set free and allowed to move on with your life while Ana continues to pay for your actions," she said.
Mauldin's lawyer, Sam Cammack, said his client would not get the treatment he needs for mental illness in prison.

Re: Why???? – The reason it seems as though more stuff happens in Texas is because there has been a huge population boom over the course of the past few years. Texas is the largest state in the continental US, and there are waaaaaaay too many freakin' people for weird stuff not to happen, and of course, be reported on. This monster needs to die for what he did to that baby girl, but that is the reason why, unfortunately, the great state of Texas gets the reputation it does.

TO YUKI- This is true. I'm from Houston (near Galveston) and was near the same hotel- This guy is a monster and deffinitley needs more than 25 years in prison… He should be placed in a fire pit for 10 minutes. Unfortunately abuse happens alot in this area… I'm not sure why, but it makes me ill.
When his cellmates find out what he did he will be tortured to death.

He was insane when he did it, because he is insane. They need to put him in the looney bin and play a reenactment of what he did and pictures of what he did to his baby and her treatments all documentary style all day everyday for the rest of his life in the looney bin. Also he should get strapped down daily for shock treaments just to fully destroy his nervous system. That is how he should spend everyday for the rest of his life. His little girl will never have a normal pain free life because of him so he shouldn't either.
Just realized that this happened in Texas where the death penalty is an option. Too bad. I guess the tree hugging lawyer played the victim card re the mental illness. Mentally ill people are help accountable for their actions criminally. It is likely that he will never see the light of day.

I would love to have this guy alone for 30 minutes. All the pain his daughter is feeling he would feel times 100%. The only good point to this is prisoners hate child abusers and he will surely pay once in prison. I hope they rape him so many times that he will never be able to fart again.

Tasty! But everyone knows to keep it tender a slow cooker is really best. Put in the baby, some stock, veggies and let cook on low for 4-6 hours. Meat just falls off the bone. Use the skull as a bowl for baby soup. He was probably in a rush and that's why he used the microwave. Too bad, baby sounded fresh!
While his sentence may only be 25, just imagine what his fellow inmates will do to him. They may be hardened criminals, but child abusers frequently end up killed in jail.
My only hope, outside of the little girls recovery, is that he finds himself raped daily and then beaten to death. With any luck he will never see the end of his 25 yr sentence.

The child is in foster care. I wonder if the mother of this child was negligent as well. If so…..she should be not allowed to have any more children or if she does she should have to give them up to foster care at birth. Other wise she'll be visiting him in prison and having more babies that she does nothing to advocate for. Maybe I am totally out in left field. But ……it happens.

No he isn't nor was he ever insane. A doctor who has known him for years stated that the guy has a history of committing criminal acts, and using the ruse of being mental as an excuse to escape punishment. He knew exactly what he was doing but he did it anyway because he knew that his mother and wife would vouch for him, which of course they did. He stated that he also punch the baby several times and popped her into the refrigerator to stop her from crying. The baby's stupid mother is 17 years old and still stands by her husband.
Scumbag - they should announce his crime to fellow prisoners and let them exact punishment; which I am sure will happen. He will get his and it will be worse than any court could/would impose.

Social services needs to crack down. This man needs to be sterilized as does the woman. They have given up their right to have children. That may sound cold but children in microwave ovens everywhere would be thankful. The safety of the children is the priority not the parents. Everyone needs to get their priorities straight. Remove children who are at risk. Get the tree hugging mentality out of the educational systems that are graduating social workers with this keep the family together attitude. Children are at risk.

Re: Abby – It is ironic that the social services system spends much more money on social workers working with the families in crisis and maintaining them either at home or in foster care than they do utilizing them for adoptions. At times you think it is because they might lose their jobs if they actually adopted some of these children to loving families and got them off the dole. If the social workers applied the same scrutiny to families in crisis as they do to loving couples or singles that want to adopt thing might be different. I know couples who have attempted to adopt and all cannot believe that with what you read etc that they are on a waiting list while so many children are in foster care or abusive family situations. The courts need to get a backbone along with social services. Start putting more money into providing social workers to expedite the many children that are waiting in foster care for adoption. Or waiting to be legally granted adoption rights in the backed up court systems. All of whom are in situations that statistically put them at risk. What is this country coming to.
