Man jailed for microwaving baby
A jury in Texas has sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for severely burning his two-month-old daughter in a microwave oven last year.
The jury rejected Joshua Mauldin's defence that he was insane when he placed his daughter Ana in the oven.
Prosecutors said Mauldin had a history of violence, lying about being mentally ill and was angry about his marriage.
Ana, now aged one, suffered second and third-degree burns to her face and left side and required two skin grafts.
Part of her left ear had to be amputated.
Her foster mother, Heather Croxton, told the court of the painful daily treatments Ana has had to undergo since being left in the microwave for up to 20 seconds.
"There is no excuse for your actions and I hate that one day you will be set free and allowed to move on with your life while Ana continues to pay for your actions," she said.
Mauldin's lawyer, Sam Cammack, said his client would not get the treatment he needs for mental illness in prison.

I get tired of my tax dollars supplying food and shelter for these monsters when there are homeless people in this country. This is one issue that I really have to control my mouth over…….even as a Christian, I have some pretty colorful words for these two and others like them…. My stepdaughter was sexually abused by her mom's boyfriend when she was 7. The statute of limitations had run out by the time we found out about it and the county had the choice whether or not to prosecute. They decided not to. The case worker called me and let me know that he had done it before to another child and that we should be very afraid of him. Several years later he shot and killed a woman and then killed himself. I was sad for the woman but thrilled to think that he was dead. It didn't happen soon enough for me. Garbage belongs in the landfill.

As a gay parent I am dumbfounded and stricken by disgust how some str8 ppl with kids can even be considered parents.
We have battled so much for equal rights as gays and shuned upon by all religious and left/right wing political groups that gays are unfit parents and should not be allowed to adopt etc.

That is pure evil. I read things like this and it makes me feel so fucking disillusioned with the human race, that somebody could do such a horrific thing to a helpless child. It's beyond inhumane. One thing they don't put up with is child abuse, so at least he'll suffer worse inside than any sentence that could have been passed in a courtroom. I can hardly believe that any man could commit such an unthinkably inhumane act upon his defenseless baby daughter. It's inexcusable. I have a two month old boy, and this just makes me sick to my stomach. What is so sad is this is not the first time…I've heard of many sickos microwaving their kids. This little one is lucky to have lived. This world is so wonderful, but there is so much evil twisted stuff going on, I'm surprised everyone's not on antidepressants to deal with just hearing this day to day news. My prayers go out to this little baby and to all children who are going through hell out there.
