Re: Marcus Aurelius – It's an aussie comedy about three characters, jonah (An islander year 8 student), Ja'mie (a popular pivate school student on exchange) and Mr G (A drama teacher). It's set in a public aussie school in melbourne, and is a mockumentary following the lives of these three people over a term.
That 'guy in a dress' is chris lilley, one of the fuuuuunniest aussie comedians out there, who plays all three characters. He isn't a 'guy in a dress', he's an actor who is embodying the character of this spoiled teenage rich brat and he does it in such a phenomenal way, at times it's hard to tell he's a guy.
It's a hilarious show, and there's no reason for it to only appeal to gay guys. Over here (in australia) it pretty much appeals to anyone with a sense of humour who has been to high school at any time in their life.
that's so awesome that you love 'summer heights high perez!!!! didn't know anyone knew about it outside australia…but it is such a fantastic show, and i'm glad other people get our weird aussie sense of humour!
Seriously, if you love this, you will love his previous series "We Can Be Heroes", Ja'mie is also in that one!!

It's like Kath & Kim all over again. You guys are just NOT going to get it. It's local humour…very local. It was based on the school that my mum teaches at and my brother goes to, bunch of kids from there and the school they actually filmed it at were in it.
Don't get me wrong, we love it, but unless you've experienced high school in Australia - you won't!

The talents of Chris Lilley are second to none, where he spends most of the show working off the other characters. If you do enjoy this show… don't forget "We Can Be Hereos".

He is So COOL, really - he is SPOT on. I dont know HOW he can write and really be so in-tune with the way his chrachters think - so many people try and FAIL. I have taught in Australian Schools and he is SPOT on. FReaken GENIUS. I too am very suprised that this "works" outside Australia. But so glad. Chris Liley is the new/relevant Dame Edna - with more RANGE. LOVE…xxx

Best show ever. I was just thinking the other day, I wonder how well the show would go in America and the UK. However, I think a lot of the underlined humour is aussie a little bit. But I'm sure you guys would be a able to pick it up. It is hilarious and definitely give it a chance. The whole series was a massive hit and success in Australia. And even the musical song has been released and I think it is close to topping our charts. AWESOME.!

yeah i don't know if a lot of the stuff will cross over. i mean, as a teenage girl i know how true ja'mie characteristics. although i must say the overuse of the word 'random' is very 2004. but he really nails her character.. i remember someone telling me that he got inspiration for ja'mie on a tram listening to girls from my school (a prominant melbourne private girls school *cough* cate blanchett *cough*) and i seriously would not doubt that, its way too close to home. plus the similarities of the uniform… (ja'mie's one, seen in 'we can be heroes', not the uniform in this show)

Yes, I want to let you know this a great show! it's very funny. No other Aussie comedy/comedien comes close. I'm sure the English will get it, but not sure about the yanks, do they know how to laugh at themselves the same way English, Aussies and Canadians know how?

I'm Australian and have liked Chris Lilley's work since he was on Big Bite, doing the Mr. G character 6 years ago (who had BLACK hair then not blonde, don't know why they changed it for Summer HH).
Not ALL aspects of SHH are funny. I personally like watching because it is a commentary on certain parts of Australian cuture. Having seen kids interact at public schools and having gone to a private all girls school myself, I instantly recognised Jai'me and Jonah. I have known sooo many people that talk and act like Jai'me in my own life that its fun to watch the parallels. That's why if you haven't gone to primary or high school in Australia then it's more difficult to enjoy the show. Just like us Australians don't connect well with the American high school culture eg. jocks, cheerleaders etc.
U guys r gunna pucking love it! But I hope u get all the humour, cuz it's very aussie. You'll all have to look up all the aussie slang!!! Jonah rox!!!
