Cops: 3rd-graders aimed to hurt teacher
WAYCROSS, Ga. - A group of third-graders plotted to attack their teacher, bringing a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape and other items for the job and assigning children tasks including covering the windows and cleaning up afterward, police said Tuesday.
The plot by as many as nine boys and girls at Center Elementary School in south Georgia was a serious threat, Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner said.
"We did not hear anybody say they intended to kill her, but could they have accidentally killed her? Absolutely," Tanner said. "We feel like if they weren't interrupted, there would have been an attempt. Would they have been successful? We don't know."
The children, ages 8 and 9, were apparently mad at the teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair, Tanner said. A prosecutor said they are too young to be charged with a crime under Georgia law.
School officials alerted police Friday after a pupil tipped off a teacher that a girl had brought a weapon to school, Tanner said.
Police seized a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape, electrical and transparent tape, ribbons and a crystal paperweight from the students, who apparently intended to use them against the teacher, Tanner said.
Nine children have been given discipline up to and including long-term suspension, said Theresa Martin, spokeswoman for the Ware County school system. She would not be more specific but said none of the children had been back to school since the case came to light.
The purported target is a veteran educator who teaches third-grade students with learning disabilities including attention deficit disorder, delayed development and hyperactivity, friends and parents said.
The scheme involved a division of roles, Tanner said. One child's job was to cover windows so no one could see outside, he said. Another was supposed to clean up after the attack.
"We're not sure at this point in the investigation how many of the students actually knew the intent was to hurt the teacher," Tanner said.
The parents of the students have cooperated with investigators, who aren't allowed to question the children without their parents' or guardians' consent, he said. Authorities have withheld the children's names.
Police expected to forward the results of their investigation to prosecutors, Tanner said.
Children in Georgia can't be charged with a crime unless they are at least 13, District Attorney Rick Currie said.
Martin told The Florida Times-Union of Jacksonville, Fla., that administrators would follow school system policy and state law in disciplining the students.
"From what I understand, they were considered pretty good kids," Martin said. "But we have to take this seriously, whether they were serious or not about carrying this through, and that's what we did."
Four mothers of other third-grade students at Center Elementary called for the immediate expulsion of the suspected plotters.
Stacy Carter and Deana Hiott both cited school system policy stating that an(AP) — y student who brings "anything reasonably considered to be a weapon" is to be expelled for at least the remainder of the school year.
"We don't want our children around them," Carter told the Times-Union. "The one with the knife could have stabbed my child or someone else's child at lunch or out on the playground."
"This is an isolated incident, an aberration. … We have good kids," Center Principal Angie Coleman told the newspaper.

omg these kids are f*cking geniuses ………
my mom was a special ed teacher at Waycona Elementry which is also in Waycross, ga. One of her adhd kids set a bunch of papers in two desks on fire.
god i like this statment We don't want our children around them," Carter told the Times-Union. "The one with the knife could have stabbed my child or someone else's child at lunch or out on the playground
whats to stop me from running onto school grounds and knifing a few kids for the hack of it. realy lol
Re: kimmm – hahahaha! your funny!
My daughter is in the 3rd grade & I can't even begin to imagine her or her friends doing something like that. Then again, I can totally see the kid in the house behind mine doing something like that, but she's in 4th grade. Why the difference? Because I (& my daughter's friends parents) keep an eye on our children & discipline them when necessary - even if that includes the occasional spanking. The other child's parents let her run wild & never discipline her. I am a teacher & we spend far too much time on worrying about kids feelings & self-esteem. We are taught to use positive guidance "Use your walking feet." instead of "Stop running!" or re-direct them to something else. The only discipline (& even this is discouraged) is a time out - 1 minute per year (a 3 year old gets 3 minutes etc..). that doesn't work. My nephew who was 3 once grabbed a toy from his sister, hit her & made her fall, then sat in a chair. I asked what he was doing & he said, "I hit nee-nee (his nickname for her) & now I need a time out to think." I asked him what he'd be thinking about, & he said, "What I can do to her next."
I SAY: BEAT THEIR ASSES!!!
FUCK C-P-S
who gives a shit what the picture is, like the post said before if it was a picture of white kids people wouldn't call it racist SO SHUT THE FUCK UP. stop causing shit, if perez was really racist he'd tell you go make him an egg roll which he didn't.
this so messed up about the kids, and to the girl who said that the child with the knife wouldn't have tried to stab a kid at the playground is ridiculous
WHY DO YOU THINK HE HAS A KNIFE, he obviously wants to do something with it
Did no one ever have a terrible terrible and cruel teacher? Who knows what this teacher was like to these kids and maybe since they were often problem kids nobody listened to them when they complained. That does not justify what they were planning, but maybe just maybe they were pushed to this by a terrible cruel teacher and no one who would listen to their complaints.
Re: MLB –
i agree with you 110% !
Ohmygod.
I live near Waycross.
I hate this, literally. What's going on with Ware County? When their schools got bomb threats, my high school got one the next day, and I wasn't happy about that. It is freaking stupid. And I'm really not happy about this. These children are just so..Ware County really is getting out of hand. All of the schools are basically this way. You just don't know how much is going on in this district of schools.
I hope this doesn't come up in my area at all.
This happened last Friday, oh, and I don't think this was in it, but the kids says they weren't 'planning on killing her', they just wanted to hurt her! How insane is that? And the parents seems to have no idea that this was going on. Bah, it's ridiculous how this has made it to nationwide news.
Re: bo – "Learning disabilities" does not necessarily mean "retarded". And what the hell does that have to do with the story? Just another narrow-minded, bigoted comment.
Re: Jen Choy – listen fucktard the picture is meant to be funny dumbass if your offended get the fuck off the site
Re: caitlin –
dumb nut, if it was a picture with a bunch of white kids, no shit nobody would call it racist because it WAS a bunch of psycho caucasian 3rd graders who did it.
holy shit that's crazyy.
When I wasn in third grade our teacher used cruel and unusual punishiment- she would sit on us (she was about 250 lbs), she'd make us write 1,000 word letters of appology, call us dunder heads, throw chairs at us, puch kids, etc. Us students were always ploting our revenge but never carried anything out.
Rotten little shit bag brats. They deserve a good flogging.
This is exactly why I hate kids. The fuckers are evil.
P.S: how come the parents were clueless?Bad parents!
STFU!
Just kill the little brats.
That's when you know parenting skills have failed today.
lmfaoooo!!
now theres an idea (=
i bet the CIA wants to sign those hooligans up for some future operations
my mother actually teaches 5th grade at the school in which this happened. crazy. its ridiculous.

whats with the blindfolds??…
this is not "funny" or "crazy" this is just plain SICK. I am a teacher and I am now scared to go back to work.
wow! that is amazing how little 3rd graders know how to do all of the planning
Re: KKK –

L-O-Fuckin'-LRe: Stupid Nigglets! –
That's what happens to a country that idolizes gangsters, drug dealers, junkies and drunks. Sad!
OMG!! This makes my heart warm. I admire those little third graders.
LMAO
Hell maybe the bitch deserved it
Re: HOW ABOUT SUSPEND THE TEACHER COZ –
How is it disrespectful to tell a student to get off a chair? I think the student was disrespectful for not giving his/her teacher his/her attention. Also, this is why I know half of the people that comment here are fucking idiots, how can you get mad at a teacher assigning classwork? Don't you want to learn and advance in life? Apparently by your grammar and spelling, you really don't.
This happened right down the road from me. These kids had disabilities they need to be evaluated, Not thrown in juvi. Its there parents fault that the child is so fcked in the head. Waycross kids are more undisiplined then most areas around here and get into more trouble. The children need to be treated in a hospital and evaluted carefully.
This demonstrates how corrupted our world has come to. This is terrifying and demonstrates how violence has taken its toll to even young children. I am just curious how did they plot this and where did these children get the ideas from. It creeps me out.
[re=1854668]Re: bore] the fact that you say they are retarded shows the person you are. The whole thing is a tragedy but I have been teaching since I was 18 and as tragic and wrong as this is … don't you dare classify this as children who have delays! And more so don't call them names. These may be children that planned something unspeakable and will have to face that but how about YOU be an adult and not name call them names or classify. Most of the children I have been teaching that are delayed are not physical and those that have been do it on emotion not premeditation of what they are going to do.
whoa. that's crazy! when i was in 3rd grade there was a petition going around for students to sign to get a mean teacher fired, but that's nothing compared to this!
Re: kimmm – where the hell is the humor in that, fucktard?
Re: meow23 – You're an idiot. The fact that they PLANNED to attack their teacher shows that they DON'T have disabilities. Everyone had "jobs" in the attack. And you can't put all the blame on the parents. These kids are old enough to know what they were doing. They know the difference between right and wrong. They deserve some serious discipline, not evaluation. But maybe you could use some.
oh my hell. this is insane. physco little kids!
I heard this on the radio yesterday and i couldn't stop laughing i don't know why. It's pretty scary.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Whats with the 1st thing?
no, we do not have good kids here. what the hell happened to our society that plotting such a heinous attack gets no more than a slap on the wrist!? it makes me sick that lazy parents are going to be the downfall of our civilization.
teach your kids right from wrong, people! its not that hard!!
wtf?
Re: Stupid Nigglets! –
how ignorant. just stop breathing. or jump off a cliff. whatever you prefer, just die.
i think these kidz are so fuckin awesome.. i would never have the balls to bring a weapon to school.. they are living my dream.. i have always waned to kill my teacher!!!!
WWW TTT FFF!!! You are showing a pic of some children who were probably not even involved in this mess?!?!? AND they are all asian?!?!
