Yea, blame the lawyers and Wal-mart. They're always the greedy scapegoats! Except, if you read the story, she settled with the truck driver, which doesn't amount to a whole lot of legal fees. It's the appeals process, up to the Supreme Court, that drove up the legal costs. The health insurance policy contained a clause that stated IF SHE SETTLED FOR MORE THAN THEY GAVE HER, they'd want their money back. Which she did. Can we at least have a pity party for people who don't have health insurance that this sort of thing happens to?
You are disgusting and so full of yourself. You had NOTHING to do with her victory.
U did nothing….
Wonderful news!
Way to go!!
(Wal*Mart sucks a littl eless I suppose.)
Yay!!! WTG Perez! Thanks for posting something like this so it will get the most exposure possible. You did a wonderful thing!
Re: Ladylaw –
You are a very smart woman. I wish the rest of America was as intelligent as you. Maybe we would have harder working citizens instead of scum.
PEREZ helped but this story was on national tv before perez mentioned it but it is great
Perez - you did a good thing, using your power to bring awareness up for the right reasons:)
good job:)
This is great news, a blessings for us all.
thank you for informing your fans! I know several Wal-mart employees and none knew about the "fine print" in the health policy. Applause, Applause, Applause…
RE: "#34 - bitch" — "We? You had absolutley nothing to do with it, but if it keeps up your fragile ego and self-confidence, go ahead and exploit a disabled woman's tragedy."
I agree completely! And as for the nitwits who disagree, based on Walmart's claim that other parties helped the co. see the other side of things, it was all over many, many actual news sources. Not just a misspelled gossip blog run by a man whose only (though considerable) talent is self-promotion. Giving Mario more credit than he deserves is one thing, but when he takes credit for something that is far bigger than his (considerable) waistline? Straight up EVIL!
People, relax. Spreading the word is doing something! Why are you all so angry?
FUCKING AWESOME DEBBIE!! ROCK ON PEREZ!!
Perez, you are an ANGEL! You CARE about people.
Everyone, PLEASE don't shop WalMart- ever. KMart is every bit as inexpensive, with the same and better merchandise. Target and KMart for discount shopping. NEVER WALMART. Research WalMart. Be informed. DON'T SHOP THERE.
Love you Perez!
Cyndi
Has everything to do with you, right, Perez? Please.
Can people PLEASE stop saying "FIRST" when they're 401st? It's annoying as hell.
chalk one up for the little man
YOU didn't do shit, this was on every legit news program around the country. Your typical fan probably can't even SPELL Wal-Mart, let alone understand the complexities of the legal proceedings. Nothing YOU or anyone who reads this site did made a damn bit of difference.
The only reason I even stumbled upon this site was by searching for articles regarding this case, for all of those who are going to try and rebut me by saying "wlell ur on this site, 2…and your not specialer then us!"
Hey Walmart…..I still won't shop your store to save a buck…
YAY CONGRATS DEBBIE AND FAMILY!!!
Thats great news! I was talking about that on work. I saw a thing about that on news. That made my day!
thats great! i read about her story on your site and was concerned for her/bothered by walmart; im glad you can use your site for a good cause!
Although Walmart got the bad publicity, it was actually the insurance company that was going after the settlement money. This is a local story for us that we have been hearing about for months. I'm pleased that not only are they dropping the lawsuit, they are returning the trust fund money that was already taken by the insurance company. Walmart is also changing their policy so that they don't go after settlement money after an accident. I'm not saying this should be the case all the time, but in cases like this where the victim is in a permanent care facility, it's certainly a help.
If anyone is interested in the local story, it's at KFVS12.com It's sad because Debbie's husband had to recently divorce her so that she would qualify for some health care. He obviously cares for her and wants the care for her that she needs.
….Keith Olbermann did it.
good job. you truly did help out, Perez. this is great news.
"We did it!"
Well kudos to her and her family, but Perez, you had nothing to do with it. Get off your high horse you meth addict loser.
HOOOORRAY!!! Love ya perez!!!
Another breaking story at http://detentionslip.org!!! The website about crazy news in public schools that is sweeping the nation!
It was front page news on cnn.com… that's where I heard about it first. Stop taking the credit.
I so glad they came to there senses. The only thing is would they have done it if it was'nt for being on TV. But at least they were able to gey ut out on the news so that helped. I will pray for her. And I hope everyone tries to do the roght things. DO WHAT GOD WOULD DO.IF YOU THINK IT MAY BE WRONG OR EVEN HAVE TO THINK ABOUT A SITUATION ITS WRONG. NEVER 2ND GUESS YOURSELF. THANK YOU
Yayy! There is a God!!
STOP SUBROGATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS JUST A WAY FOR BUSINESS' WHOSE BUSINESS IT IS TO TAKE A LOSS TO RACK IN BILLIONS AT POOR PEOPLE'S COST.
it is disgusting that it happened in the 1st place…that amount is probably a day's(or less) interest for one of the walton clan…and they probably only gave in after they saw they would lose more money(ie boycotts or bad press) if they didn't…don't let them fool you…walmart is ruled by the bottom line and not the heart…
ew she looks like you haha
Re: Daryl –
I agree, I have never shopped at a walmart nor will I ever.
I am glad and amazed that wal-mart stood up and did what was right in this case. Thanks to all the people that put the worlds eye on the case….wonder if walmart would have done the same with out it!
Perez, I don't think you had anything to do with this victory but whatever you want to think. That "we" comment is misleading since there was a certain journalist- forgot her name- who spearheaded this into the media. She deserves the most credit, not you.
But, this case is still tragic. I am glad they are FINALLY doing the right thing but why this family was put through this miserable situation for so many years is ridiculous. I realize it is company policy and it is a lot of companies policy, but this was an egregious circumstance. Hopefully, her family can have some peace now.
yeah. i'm so happy for them but i will still not go to walmart. they are mean fucks!!!!!
right on, thanks for doing the right thing corp giant.
P, you must know in your heart you did a very good thing by helping to reveal this. I'd have never have heard about this if not for you. I'm as happy as I can be for the woman and her family (nothing will ever restore the past for them). Way to call the corperation out and stand up for the rights of the individual "little man"! God bless and keep it up.
you did a good thing by putting this on your site. don't let the haters get you down perez! this is great! screw all of you that put your stupid shit on here! everybody can learn from this!!!!!!!! DO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm no lawyer, but I'm sure this isn't the first person that has been sued in this exact type of situation. I expect all of those people will be contacting Perez looking for some publicity. Why was Walmart wrong again? It's not fine print, any insurance company would have to take these actions to be solvent. Was Walmart saying they wouldn't continue to pay for her health care or were they hoping to recoup their expenses instead of the money being spent by her family on toys. That family should have had better lawyers who would have forseen the Walmart lawsuit. Lets not forget her lawyers got 30% plus expenses, THEY totally fucked her.
…sometimes, like this time, I read what I'm writing and think "WTF am I doing writing on this website" …
I'm FIRST First First is way more appropriate.
That is terrific. Now…can we collectively go after the oil companies and their goddamned rape tactics?
Re: Aubrey – i agree-wouldn't have ever known about this but for P. he's great and again-congrats to them!!!!
YAY! IM SO HAPPY FOR HER! I haven't shopped at Wal*Mart since i saw this story, God Bless this Family!
Yay,I read it on my front page msn not on Perez but its still good news for Debbie!!!! geez Wal-mart was acting fuckin greedy there for a minute, they did not need her settlement money, she does!
this made me cry! its wonderful!! way to go perez!
I wish WALMART collected the money. It was her stupid lawyers fault that he did not get her health care costs paid for when he settled the case - her lawyer probably settled short in order to get a quick pay day. Subrogation enables health care companies to offer lower rates to the masses. Why shouldn't the third party be responsible for paying for her medical care????? Why should she (or her health care company) have to pay for her treatment?????
FUCK WALMART!!! I am a former employee of Walmart and this sickened me when I heard about it. There are so many things that are wrong with Walmart. I think it is fucked up what they did to this poor woman. You get em Debbie. Fuck them in the ass without lube or the courtesy of a reach around
OMG I am so happy to see this story.
Everyone that is so happy about this….
Do you realize that your health care costs will increase about 1% if subrogation goes away? Does this still make you happy?
working in brain injury, it's nice to see that a slave-labour promoting company can take care of their own
you're amazing! it is beyond admirable that u use your power for good. if only there were more people like you and less like wal-mart. thank you
EMZ…you tool. The costs still have to be paid! She did not get that money for "nothing". Either the Walmart employees will get screwed with higher health care costs and/or reduced coverage … or … Walmart will pass the increased health care costs on to the consumer … or … most likely Walmart will do all three. Basically, this decision is screwing over lots of people.
Well, I'm not sure that you were solely or even partially responsible for this positive turnaround, but at least you were there to bring this story to the attention of those who read your site. It would be great if you could include more stories like this - might make your venture more legit (we all know sex and celebrity sell), ala People Magazine.
I agree with some of the other commentors—-SET UP A FUND!!!!! And for the ASSHOLES that are talking smack—–I hope that nothing tragic in your life happens……..for you are not strong enough to face it, and as you would probably think at that time "should I commit suicide?" —–the answer is "yes"……for you are a worthless piece of shit that doesn't deserve the compassion of other people.
Still. . . .FUCK Wal-mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a union girl myself. . .Of course in my union if my hours fall below 35 hrs/week my 4yr old & I lose our insurance, America is fucked, and we dont even see it
WE?! You didn't do shit, you dumbass.
Stop taking credit for other people's work.
Pray for a new, good president to help us out of these horrible times. I hope everyone that posted a comment is going to vote in the upcoming election!!!!! You obviously have a say—-so make it heard!
Amazing…I knew you were the queen of all media but this is Oprah style big! She started getting healthy, running in Malibu with her shirt off and once you declared it you started saving people too. You should go after sexual predators like her. You rock!

Re: OPRAH – Well I guess if they did that you'd have to be next.
"we did this" how are YOU taking credit for this- you're way too egotistical- you need to remember where you came from. yes it's great you are showcasing good causes and making people aware of other issues but at the end of the day you're still selling the public gossip. you're not curing cancer, being a teacher, mentor, police, fire fighter, fighting for our country, etc; you're just trying to get by like everyone else- it's gossip. get over yourself.
That's great news, Perez! Yippeee!
I am so happy for that family. Way to go Wal-Mart, and thanks Perez for helping illuminate this tragic story.
lmao… yay for southern missouri! I love how missouri is always portrayed…
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS PEREZ!! YOU ARE AMAZING — PLEASE KEEP UP ON THIS SORT OF STUFF. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO HELP MANY!
that makes me so happy! I got so sad reading her story! YAY! Next time, set up a fund, I would totally contribute!
HELL YEAH!!!! DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!! I'M HAPPY FOR HER AND HER FAMILY!!!
AS SOON AS THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON THE ROACHES WILL RUN!!! WALMART IS THE SCUM OF THE EARTH!! THEY TREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES LIKE SHIT!!! THEY TELL THEIR EMPLOYEES (WHO CAN'T AFFORD THE WALMART INSURANCE BY DESING) TO GO ON WELFARE AND FOOD STAMPS AND ANY OTHER STATE RUN AGENCY SO THAT WE, THE CONSUMER, FOOT THEIR BILLS!!! WALMART ACTUALLY HOLDS MEETINGS TO COACH THEIR EMPLOYEES ON HOW TO DO THIS!!! WALMART MAKES BILLIONS PER YEAR YET THEY PAWN OFF ALL THEIR INSURANCE COSTS ON US, THE CONSUMER!! THE ONLY REASON THEY STOPPED PERSUING THIS WOMAN IS BECAUSE THE PUBLIC WAS MADE AWARE!!! I URGE YOU TO DO THE RESEARCH!! I AM RIGHT!!! WALMART IS SCUM!!! YOU PAY HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY IN YOUR TAXES TO SAVE A FEW CENTS HERE AND THERE! BUT WALMART MAKES SURE IT COLLECTS YOUR HARD EARNED DOLLARS TO PAY FOR IT'S OWN EMPLOYEES INSURANCE!!!! PEREZ… YOU SHOULD UNCOVER THE SOFT UNDER BELLY OF SHITEOUS WALMART ON YOUR SITE AND EVICERATE!!! FUCK WALMART!!! DON'T SHOP THERE!!!!
1. That's effing AWESOME!!!!
2. I still hate Wal-Mart.
3. How cool to click the link and see my hometown newspaper!
Re: FUCK WALMART!! – Ditto, man, ditto.
Re: mtg – No, she's misinformed and downright retarded, and so are you. The two situations are not mutually exclusive: That woman worked and EARNED her health care benefits from WalMart. The lawsuit to the trucking company has to do with other issues aside from medical costs, such as negligence, etc.
Yeah, boo hoo. Poor WalMart.
ENJOY YOUR BAD KARMA, "MTG" AND "LADYLAW!"
Legal she should not have the money. Walmart's Insurance (NOT WALMART) has technically donated this money to her. this will take away from other patients care. This is a reason why companies do not offer health care. Please understand what you are fighting for. You are losing a reader because of your ignorance/
Hurrah! This story made me cry! I'm glad it had a happy ending after all.
I hope that this will shine new light on more issues between corporations and employees!
This is why I like this website
I think even with celeb sites like this- you can make a voice for the people, against cruelty and injustice
Perez, I read your site several times daily and every time I see something like this I respect you more and more. You have an extremely kind heart and I praise you for being such an honest, loving guy even when you give people shit. You make life a little more light-hearted, but at the same time, you always stand up for a cause. Best Wishes, and Happy Late Birthday.
Actually, This story aired on CNN first and then Perez picked up on the story and posted it here. So thank you CNN for bringing this story to our attention. Perez likes to take credit for other people having the balls to stand up to major corporations.
Re: Ladylaw – YOU STUPID FUCKING WHORE!! SHE ACTUALLY COULD AFFORD WALMARTS INSANELY HIGH INSURANCE!!! FUCK YES THEY PAY FOR HER MEDICAL!!! UMMM WHEN YOU GO OUT AND GET YOUR STD'S ON THE STREET FROM FUCKING AND SUCKING RANDOM SCUM… YOU GO TO THE DR. TO GET YOUR VALTREX FOR YOUR HERPE WIELDING CUNT!!! DO YOU SUE ALL THE ASSHOLE'S YOU LET FUCK YOU TO GET THEM TO PAY FOR THE DRUGS TO TREAT YOUR INFECTED ASS??? NO!!!! YOU PATHETIC PUSS OOZING BITCH!!! NOW DO US A FAVOR AND KILL YOURSELF SO WE DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR MEDICAL, WELFARE, AND FOOD STAMPS BECAUSE IT'S OBVIOUS YOU ARE WAAAAY TOO FUCKING STUPID TO HOLD DOWN A JOB…. I'm just sayin'….
YEA! I sent them an e-mail on their website basically telling the to fuck off for taking that woman's money. Especially considering she is chronically disabled. If Wal-Mart took her money she would just on medicare and then the tax payers would be taking care of her. Thank god the little guy one this time!!!
Re: YOU ASSHOLE! – OMG!!! BWAHAHAHAAA! Well put!!!
This is silly.
Wal-Mart did the right thing originally when it insured Debbie.
Wal-Mart had every right in the world to sue Debbie to get their money back.
Yes, that is what I wanted to see and hear!! I was really pissed at wal mart for that whole thing. I have thought about that more than once. I had to go to wal mart the other day to put money back on a gift card of my daughters that had been used temp. and I thought about it when I was there and I had resigned not to go back there after that. That was going to be the last dollar I ever spent at wal mart. I was sickened by the fact that a multi billion dollar company couldn't make an exception for a real hardship. There is a difference between someone who is trying to use the system and someone who truly needs it. She definitely needs it. So……..they did what they should have. Gave someone a break that truly needed it. I will continue to shop at wal mart now. And I won't need to tell other people not to shop there either.
Re: T.K. – WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! SHE PAID HER INSURANCE BILLS! BESIDES WALMART NEEDS TO TAKE ONE UP THE ASS FOR FUCKING ALL OF US!!! WE PAY FOR ALL OF THEIR EMPLOYEES MEDICAL BILLS!!! WALMART SUCKS ASS AND SO DO YOU!
wow! thats awesome!
I'm so glad to hear that Wal Mart was able to respond to this in a positive manner. They obviously did not need to, but I'm so glad that they did. I hope her family is able to move forward and take care of her and themselves.
this made my day!
I want to cry my eyes out every time i think of Debbie and what her family had to go though, after the accident. Infact, I'm starting to…just writing this. Can you imagine this accident happening to someone you love? To go from knowing someone, to having them become like a child…it's so unfair…this world is so cruel. My heart goes out to Debbie and everyone who works through the pain, daily. You have supernatural strength. And if some days, you just lose control…you have every right. No one deserves this kind of pain. I wish love and peace to your lives.
I STILL THINK THE FAMILY COULD USE MORE MONEY. CAN YOU POST A PLACE TO DONATE? $400,00 will go quickly…think of all the supervision Debbie needs. I want to send something.
I hope others feel the same. Please post if you do.
So i suppose the 60 minutes show about this had nothing to do with it..Yeah must have been Perez that did it..please you pretender…
I actually agree with Walmart on this one even though I think they are a shit store. If they do this for one employee they should have to do it for all who win settlements. What Walmart did was standard practice in the industry. When monies are won in a settlement you are supposed to pay the insurance back. While that rule may be fucked, it's the rule that has been the standard in the industry. Fuck Walmart, they are the shittiest store out there but they were still right to get there money back. Now if after they received the money back if they were to make a generous donation to the former injured employee then that would be cool. You wait & see, people will be suing left & right now to keep their entire settlements & not have to pay the insurance back. I would bet that ALL insurance riders state that the insurance must be paid back in cases of settlements, this case should have been no different regardless of the circumstances.
That is all, carry on.
& also, Walmart didn't do it because they care, they did it as a PR move & for no other reason. FUCK YOU WALMART!
Her smile made my day
you should be so proud of yourself! you really impress me all the time!
WE???? WHAT WE??? I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS WOMAN ON YOUR SITE!!!! ISN'T IT BAD
ENOUGH THAT YOU INSULT GRANDMOTHERS WITHOUT THEN PRETENDING YOU HAD
SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE MORAL VICTORY OF A DISABLED WOMAN???
YOU REALLY ARE THE VILEST FAT FUCKER EVER. MY HATE FOR YOU KNOW NO
BOUNDS. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. I KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW
THAT EMOTION THOUGH.
Re: OPRAH – Your a poor ass excuse of a human being aren't you, must be a fucking Walmart executive !
Someone is having delusions of grandeur. WE didn't have anything to do with it. Perez, your site simply isn't that important.
Do you actually think that 200 post on a shitastic board like yours cause Wal-mart to pay for this womans medical bill? You're even more of a moron then i thought. I'm sure a multi billion dollar business like Wal-mart is losing sleep at night cause some giant headed, bucktoothed freak from West Hollywood with a legion of 14 year olds yelling "first" is a viable threat to it's business.

Re: Ladylaw – you pay for medical insurance every month out of your salary DUH…that's why it's called INSURANCE, you are INSURED if something happens to you.
Congrats to Perez and this family! Perez, you should be proud that you used your website to help this family against such a corporate giant as Wal-Mart. It's time these big companies do the right thing. It took action on your part to alert readers to raise up and have their voices heard to say this type of behavior can't continue. Thanks again for bringing this issue and in general, worthy causes and charities to our attention.
