Mariah Carey has broken records with her newest single, Touch My Body, which has just gone to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.
The single marks Mooriah's 18th hit song to reach #1, surpassing Elvis Presley's previous record of 17 hits at #1. The only other performers she has left to beat out are the current record holders, The Beatles, with 20 hits at #1.
On the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, Touch My Body has netted a record-setting 285,000 debut, while also reaching over 115 million listeners on the Hot 100 Airplay.
Coming up for Mariah, is her new album, E=MC² which hits record stores on April 15th.
And then, like the talented Miss Dolly Parton, Mimi will be a musical mentor to the finalists on American Idol on April 16th. She will also appear on AI's second annual “IDOL Gives Back” two-hour tv special on April 9th.
Also breaking records this week is Madonna with her single 4 Minutes. Madonna has now surpassed Elvis Presley with the most Top 10s in the rock era, with 4 Minutes marking her 37th Top 10 hit.
Madonna's increase in the Hot 100 has been attributed to download sales, making her #2 on the Hot Digital Songs chart.
This is the first time since 2003, when the Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital sales, that the two titles debut simultaneously on the Hot Digital Songs with more than 200,000 downloads each.

Mariah is the beneficiary of her record company breaking the law by using payola. This is well known within the music industry,but not talked about. Funny how this practice cannot be traced back to Madonna,Janet,Celine or Whiteny.If an ingestagation was done,her record company would be nailed.Resulting in,fines,penalties ect…. Even though she personally was not involved, she still bennfits.18 number one singles.People should not be rewarded for laws that have been broken.

Everyone knows that Carey's former husband (Tommy Mattola) had huge influence with pop radio stations when he was president of Sony music corporation. This resulted in payola (the practice of paying off radio stations to play artists songs) which is supposed to be illegal. Now that she is at Island Def Jam her friend L.A. Reid is doing the same thing. A couple of years ago Sony along with other record labels were caught and fined for payola. This proves that when Carey was with the label she benefited from the actions of her label. Now Island Def Jam must be investigated. The government should go after these people just like they're going after athletes for steroid use. It is cheating, plain and simple and Miss Carey should be exposed for the fraud she and her record labels are perpetrating. Back in the 1990s she was sued in court three times for plagiarism (sampling other people's music without their permission) which she settled out of court for an undisclosed sums. This also proves she is dishonest and she most likely knew about her record labels practice of paying radio stations to play her music.
