The Philipines is a vey dangerous place be right now. It is over-run by thugs and whatnot. You definitely don't want to be there if you are a Christian. Not a good scean. The prisions are awful, dispite what you may see in this clip. Torture and mayhem is running wild in those prisons. While our US prisoners have a relatively comfortable bed, books, paper and writing utinsels at their disposal, most of these other people have nothing. A lot of them are eating roaches and rats to subsidize their already very meager food rations. Let's not get into beatings and torture. I'm difinetely not a big advocate for law breakers, but take a look. These dancing Filipinos are not what they seem to be. Life is a lot more tougher for them than that. You be you. Makes me so sick we life in such a free, humane society, you still have assholes who continue to want to break the law and do the most outrageous things. I live in North Central PA almost by the NY border and this place is as backward as they come…no Malls,no museums, no good paying jobs and most people here don't have air-conditioning. The local government officials are corrupt….I've been to so called 'poor' countries and they have it much better than we have it here.

We need to start taking care of our own!
We also need to stop all the big businesses and Corporations that forsake our own country by the way they outsource jobs to India ( Bangalore in particular) and China. Corrupt Corporations that don't want to pay American workers $10 an hour plus paying medical etc…because they can pay Indian workers $3 an hour instead - and they are contracted instead of being employees.
Do you all realize how many BILLIONS of jobs have been outsourced and taken away from American workers?? Do some research and you will understand why we are in a serious DEPRESSION here in this country!
Thousands of people are losing their homes every day because they can't pay the bills with everything being so expensive now due to gas prices being so high. It effects everything - because everything is trucked in from somewhere!

I'm confused by this whole thing… Is this how they get out of routine beatings? dance and we won't hang you by your toenails? Could you imagine trying this in american jails? What priviledges could we offer to get a bunch of men to dance in a manner they would never dream of, nevermind cooperate in a large group, all gangs intermixed. Thank you for your input. However, the Philippines actually IS considered a 3rd world country. And I am in no way insulting the country but it's the truth. Yes, the citizens are advanced technologically with cellphones (they do LOVE to text!) and the country offers wonderful tourist attractions. But the country itself is still poverty-stricken with high unemployment and low wages offered to people living there. Even successful graduates still aren't earning what they would if they were to live in America (ie. doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, etc). They have poor medical conditions (with the traffic in Manila, an ambulance would not be able to get to and from a hospital quickly) and some hospitals don't even have a blood pressure cup, which is basic to a medical facility. Moreover, there are low levels of education within its population. There are plenty of upsides, but downsides as well. I'm sorry you weren't aware of that.
I'm waiting for their aerobics video to come out!

Here are some thoughts coming from someone who witnessed the dancing last week at CPDRC, which is in Cebu, Philippines by the way–not Manila. First of all, i'd like to say how these guys were so awesome! They put so much effort and danced for over an hour for exercise and at the same time YES entertain the few people who were there to witness them dancing. These guys are in prison for Rehabilitation–meaning to reform one's character to re-establish himself in the society. (to be cont)
(cont.) Before the dancing, they'd spend their day loitering around that open ground with the occasional brawls and stabbing. Prisoners were daily on the defense for the next fight, focusing on what arms to use and how to smuggle them in along with drugs. Ive seen how it was before and yes indeed an idle mind is the devil's workshop… Now with the dancing as silly as it sounds they all are preoccupied and have become more positive. Music moves the soul. Proceeds collected from viewers who make donations, and buy souvenir items (which the prisoners make themselves) are split equally among all the prisoners. They all have individual bank accounts setup. Again Rehabilitation in focus, which encourages them to participate in the dancing. They're more positive now and careful, knowing that they're in the spotlight. All they know is that alot admire them worldwide for the efforts they put into dancing. Guess they wanna keep it that way. That made a positive impact, and has encouraged them to do well. That they can make something good out of themselves. (to be cont.)
(cont) After the performance, the guards and warden even invited the viewers to have their picture taken with the prisoners! I was like, hells no! To be honest with you I was scared shitless, but heck made my way down and took the chance–and boy were these people excited to have their photographs taken–the simple joys ya know! and all they asked from us viewers was if they performed well? Mind you, it was a very hot and humid day… Guess what they bargained for with the warden for their performance—Ice cold Mango juice. Thats it. Again, the simple joys… We all have our individual opinions on the Dancing Prisoners. I thought it was funny at first. But having seen them and hear their stories–i'm overwhelmed. Guess you guys would have to see them in person yourselves too before passing judgement–that's if you dare! LOL.. (end)

I think it is just utterly AMAZING how they take a negitive and turn it into a positive, now if we can all get it together just think how GREAT we can be!

To the people who think this is "punishment" to them and that they are "humiliated" … you could not be more wrong. Filipinos LOVE to dance. Notice how they all look like they have all been comfortably dancing for years. This is not punishment for them, this is therapy. Their families are not embarrassed for them, they are probably proud! Dancing is a very big part of the Filipino culture. I am sure that every one of the prisoners who are in this clip were happy to participate, learning a choreographed dance is fun and gave them something to occupy their time.

The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia. And I believe its 90% Christian. There are churches everywhere and a lot of very active Christian communities. It isnt such a bad place for a Christian.
I'm a Filipina and a proud member of Youth for Christ myself. I've been to some of our prisons, and while our prisons aren't as comfy as the prisons I see in Prison Break, Filipino prisoners don't resort to eating roaches and rats. And their dancing I assure you is voluntary! We're just a fun loving race. haha 
They aren't forced to do that, nor are they beaten if they do not participate.
It is true though that prisons here need a lot more funding from the Government: they don't have beds (except for the prisons in the larger cities), writing materials or what not.
But nothing could ever stop us Filipinos from having fun!

4) Just so you know: our Country has the oldest existing university in the continent, we were the first country in Asia to draft a constitution and the first to establish a republic. In 1986, 2 million Filipinos took to the streets and toppled down a 20 year dictatorship through peaceful mass action. That revolution influenced others in Tianamen, the Berlin Wall, Serbia, Ukraine, Nepal, Burma and Tibet.The Philippines is not a country of idiots (Even if the people running the government right now are).
