David Letterman's show last night not only featured Walnuts' high-larious comedy routine, but also a Top 10 list in which Thomas Beatie, the transgender man who is now 23 weeks pregnant, was labeled an "androgynous freak show."
Letterman attempts to explain Beatie's situation using a cutting motion: "He had the thing."

I'm sorry–I feel sorry for this poor woman who has clearly been torn apart with confusion. She had a surgery to alter her appearance to allow her to live "as if" she is a man and she simultaneously wants to have children. There's a lot that needs to be worked out there, especially for the sake of her child.
Mind you I'm not saying someone is right or wrong or whatever–but the confusion for her child will be profound.

Ok seriously, this guy did it for the money. He could have kept to himself, had the baby, and had a perfectly normal life. I just watched the Oprah show on this and it was very interesting. He obviously was a woman before and is carrying the baby since his wife can't get pregnant. I think it was very endearing and they are very happy. Good luck to them both.
Biologically this person is NOT a man and will NEVER be. They can take all the hormones they want or have surgery, they are still womever they were when they were born. Biologically, there are two norms, female and male. Occasionally biological gender at birth it not so clear or is in fact, a combination of the sexes due to genetic issues, but that is outside the norm.
Emotionally, maybe this person is a man. In which case, I'd like to know why "he" is choosing to give birth. Did he consider the impact this could have on his unborn child? Is he having a cesarean which is inherently more risky to a fetus than vaginal birth? (unbeknownst to most Americans, but VERY TRUE!!) Having to have a child from your egg or semen seems somewhat selfish to me, when there are unwanted kids out there, etc… And if you feel compelled to have a biological child only, why not use a surrogate birth mother for your child's safety?
As for his wish to have a child of his own…he doesn't produce semen, so is it his egg? What about his wife? Why does she not get a child of her own? Because she cannot? Well, how fair was that to her then? Why coudln't they share the new experience of parenthood on equal footing?

I'm happy for this couple. They wanted to have a child together, and this was the only way to do it. Thomas was correct when he said that having a child is not a female feeling, it is a human feeling.

Stop the legal arguments people. We all know we can't keep IT from having a baby if IT wants to. We all go on and on about the legal paramenters of IT, but IT can do whatever IT wants under our great ol' constituion. The general rules of society that are being more misplaced everday. There are certain boundaries you just don't overstep. And this is one of them. If you are going to transgender and take on the role of a male, then do it. Don't be going off and getting artifically impregnated. Stop fucking with us. Get on one side or the other. I am a straight female, but I be there are a lot of true transgender people out there, who really want to make a full change, who are pretty pissed of at this.

I'm with a few of the people who commented on here… if Tracey/Thomas really wanted to be male, why keep the ability to have babies? I know he said he wanted a biological child, but there's no reason his egg could not be used to make an embryo and implant in a real woman. He'd still have a biological child, just like tons of other men and women who use their own eggs/sperm to have babies that someone else carries. Besides… I still think Thomas is a woman… someone needs to remind him he's not a hermaphrodite. At least not a real one.

He IS a man, and he LIVES as a man. Except for this pregnancy thing, which was this couple's last way out. But anyway, even though HE is a man and lives like that.. Who are you to judge others? It's disgusting. This is why transgender individuals shouldn't be allowed the legal status. They can change their mind at any given moment, and that is unacceptable. She wanted to live as a man. Well, men don't have babies.
And no, this "fear of the unknown" is not ridiculous. You can say what you want. But I think that is basically what it's all about. You might say Thomas' situation is a little "weird", yeah. "Weird" as in: Out of the ordinary, not what USUALLY happens… And all that.
But why does that has to mean there is something wrong? He is not a freak. It is just not very COMMON. Having triplets, for instance, is not very common either. That does NOT mean all triplets are freaks.
Thomas being pregnant hurts no one!!! As far as we know, the child is going to have a loving home and two nice, caring parents. What more could it ask for?

Most of us are too young to remember, but people acted the same way when the first Test Tube baby was announced. Now more than half the pregnancies out there are the result of some type of medical intervention. Now we don’t think twice about it. No one takes the time any more to actually research information and form an educated opinion and not just base your opinion on what you heard someone else say or how you ”think” it should be. That just makes you look like an ass and shows how small your world is, This couple came out and told the public only because someone else was about to do it. How is any of this affecting any of you?
How is this ANY different than a woman who has children then decides later on to have gender reassignment surgery? That scenario happens alot but no one is screaming out "freakshow" at them or worrying about their children. And you know why? Becuase children recognize LOVE.
I think its much more important to this child to have two parents who love her and provide her a stable loving home.
Why should this couple have paid a random person tens of thousands of dollars to carry a child for them when one of them had a working uterus of their own.
I can not believe so many people can pass judgement on this couple who wanted nothing more than to have a child and expand their family.
Why not attack some of those heterosexual couples who are out there abusing their children? I guess theyre ok to all of you because you have the official word on who can do what and when.
There is NO way that this couple could have had the baby girl..QUIETLY so in thier defense..tell the story on Oprah and People in THIER own words. I am a stright female in an awesome 8 year relationship who can not have kids and YES I am shocked BUT if this is a child who is loved and will be very well taken of…..GO FOR IT! Welcome to the future…….ANYTHING..good or bad can happen….it is about LOVE—which so many people have seem to forget about!!!!!! Who are we to jugde?????? This baby will NOT be born addicited to crack,herion,tabacco etc..she will be loved and grow up in a great family enviorment….WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?????
apparently he she got prego only a few month after stopping testosterone– now– i'm no doctor but this cannot not be good for the baby with all this lingering testosterone in the system. My opinion is that this person is a hypocrite– does NOT want to be a woman but will use her womanly ability to have a child. Fuck her- and i hope she has a horrible child birthing process( actually she'll chicken out and have a c-section i bet)
I think its pretty hypocritical for people to say they want stem cell research, animal testing, human experimental guinea pigs, in vitro pregnancies, surrogacies, and all of these other things that push the limits in the name of science and yet we get all up in arms when a transgender person wants to do what comes naturally. would people be more approving if this couple paid thousands of dollars for a stranger to carry their baby to term? get off your godamn high horses people… if we can come on perezhilton.com and share gossip then where do we get off judging others?
