David Letterman's show last night not only featured Walnuts' high-larious comedy routine, but also a Top 10 list in which Thomas Beatie, the transgender man who is now 23 weeks pregnant, was labeled an "androgynous freak show."
Letterman attempts to explain Beatie's situation using a cutting motion: "He had the thing."

Well, I'm not going to lie: I think this is very disturbing and manipulating Mother Nature too much. I'm not saying anything against the family itself–both of them seem like very nice people. I'm just saying I don't understand how this person strives to be a man and yet strives to literally mother a child at the same time. It's too contradictory. I hope s/he knows that s/he's doing and understand the possible consequences that this could have on him/her, his/her wife, and the child. Especially the child. And I'm not talking about birth defects, either. This child will probably be bullied, ridiculed, and pestered by the media for the rest of her life. I wish them all the best in dealing with the controversy that will definitely follow them.

Wow! I saw Thomas on Oprah today. Before today's show I was quick to judge and think it was weird and freaky. But once you see him and his wife, there is a sense of normalcy and they have a better relationship than MOST maried couples. More power to him and his wife.
I am the most open minded person, I believe in gay equal rights, gay adoption,womens lib, and all that jazz, but it is my opinion that if you want to become a man you accept all that goes with being a man including not having a child. If you wanted to get pregnant stay a woman and remain in a lesbien relationship. You can not have your cake and eat it too!

It's hard to know where to stand on this one. Sure, the claim that a man is having a baby is false, because this person is a female who's been mucked around with but kept the bits necessary to have a baby. The assumption that it is everyone's right to have a baby, regardless of the means, is questionable as well. I feel for the kid. How would you explain all this to them? How would they take it? Would they be subjected to bullying? I just hope and pray the world will be kind to this child.

Ok, "reprodutive biologist". Do you call yourself that because you are a lab tech or do you have an actual degree? He stopped taking hormones over 2 years ago in order to be able to safely have a baby, and now has normal hormone levels of a pregnant woman. If you knew that much about reproduction, you would know that this pregnancy wouldn't have happened if he were still taking massive doses of testosterone. His OB (his DOCTOR, with a DEGREE in medicine) says that this is a normal pregnancy. Before you people start saying ignorant insults about people, look into it a little.

Men don't have babies. That's just how it is. And say all you want, but if they were MEANT to have babies, they would have been born with the organs to do so. Watched the Oprah interview. Heard how he was impregnated by his wife using a syringe with the sperm. Time for a quick biology lesson boys and girls! If that's all it took for him to become pregnant that means a couple of things: This person ovulates and has a vagina. And what does that mean? It means he's a woman. He had breasts removed, but no genital reassignment surgery, just testosterone injections. This does not a man make. If it did, the female body builders and unfortunate women who have had to endure a double mastectomy would have to go change their drivers licenses. All we have here is a woman with a lower voice, facial hair, and bigger muscles who was most likely menstruating between the time he quit taking his testosterone and the time he got pregnant. Dear P-nasty;) Ok, I love you, but… this cannot happen. I am a student specifically studying child development and psycho-neurology. OK. here is the deal. This female who became a male has been taking testosterone hormones for a while because he has facial hair and no breast development anymore…which is the predominate male hormone. Now look at this he/she (because he still contains his ovaries and uterus) is pregnant. Pregnancy is made only for females because females regulate the correct level of hormones made for beneficial fetal development. The overwhelming extra testosterone hormone levels could possibly affect fetal development, which in tern could mean: mental retardation, cerebral palsy, ADHD, social anxiety, anit-social disorder…the list goes on and on. The bottom line IS this child is going to have many cognitive disorders. It is sad that this child is going to have to live in this horrible world mental disabilities. Lets pray that all will be well with this child. I will be the first one who will want to research the cognitive development of this child if he-she is born and lives. Thomas Beatie, is doing this for his wife, the love of his wife. People that say anything about this being wrong, or disgusting, dont believe in the rights people have to love, and to happiness. Since their wife cannot have the child, he decided to have it for her.
And that is one of the greatest gifts you can give, and it warms my heart to think of how sweet it is for him to have to put up with all the hurtful words people say. This couple, I'm sure, can make the child happy just as much as a biologically born male and female can. Maybe even happier.

Calling someone androgynous is a compliment, whether he meant it as such or not. Androgynous individuals are on the whole more successful than people who are strongly masculine or feminine, according to almost all psychological research in the field. They have qualities of both sexes, so they get along better with everyone and function more effectively.

I usually like Dave Letterman but that was kind of umm REALLY STUPID. Especially when people are getting killed for being gay and whatever else. Pretty stupid, Dave.
So I saw this guy on Oprah, and he's the real deal. I make a motion that we leave him and his wife alone, and let them have their baby in peace. If everyone would just live their own lives and let everyone else live THEIRS, this world would be a helluva lot better place.

Surely, the hormones that are giving her facial hair are harming the baby! This is what I don't understand about drs. How about some ethics concerning the hormones and the baby. I'm hoping she is not taking the extra hormones right now. But, still must have some because of her hair. It can't be good for her health either. Maybe she should talk to an expert about having a hysterectomy after her baby is born to avoid certain cancers. After her baby is born, then I'd call her, he. Until then all biological mothers are shes. Unless you're a seahorse.

I'm a pediatrician. He/She is bioligically allowed to do what he/she can is naturally allowed to do. Having a baby is wonderful. If their family wants a child and loves the baby unconditionally what does it matter. They could adopt but sometimes that is not what a family wants to do. They are not freaks. God would not give them the ability to have this baby if this was not His plan. Congratulations to their family. I hope they raise this child in love, which it sounds like they are ready to do.
Everyone who has been commenting that they agree with Letterman make me absolutely sick. YOU are all freaks for not accepting someone who they believe they were born to be. People like you are the reason I wish I didn't live here sometimes and that I lived in Canada where the people are A LOT more accepting of other lifestyles and those like Thomas and his wife, who deserve as much respect as you and I do. They seem like very caring, genuine people, and they deserve to be parents, they deserve to be happy. Everytime something is different, everyone jumps onto the "OMG, what a freak, that's so disgusting" bandwagon because you DON'T UNDERSTAND IT, YOU'RE IGNORANT! I can't wait until we get a president in the office who is going to FINALLY stand up for these people and actually give them a voice to overpower YOURS. You all need reality checks, the LGBT community is not going to go away and they're not going to be silenced just because ignorant people think they should because they're different.
Oh, and by the way, I'm STRAIGHT, I'm not even a part of the LGBT family, but I still 100000% support everything they do. I just wish there were more people like myself that did so. Go ahead and bash me. I can take it, I take it every day when I stand up for this community, it doesn't phase me anymore.
