David Letterman's show last night not only featured Walnuts' high-larious comedy routine, but also a Top 10 list in which Thomas Beatie, the transgender man who is now 23 weeks pregnant, was labeled an "androgynous freak show."
Letterman attempts to explain Beatie's situation using a cutting motion: "He had the thing."

Why should I be sensitive? I try to be openminded but he/she/it is just flat-out disgusting.
that's his opinion, the man is entitled to it.
This is a WOMAN (ovaries, uterus, cervix, female chromosomes, female hormones etc 100% WOMAN!) who had her breasts removed, took testosterone and is now pregnant. NOT at all a man! Rather a lesbian with SERIOUS mental disturbances. Also a moeny grubbing publicity hound. The couple intend to support themselves by a book and publicity appearances. They some how fancy themselves pioneers. WRONG! Just mentally deranged lesbians who are doing a grave disservice to their child.
that pretty much sums it up … if you wanted to carry a child you should have stayed a women! I couldn't agree more. the world is full of nutcases.
If this person is going to change his gender to male, why in the world would he go to the trouble of getting pregnant by artificial means for any other reason than being a freak show? This is the craziest thing I have ever heard and the one who will pay the highest price here is that poor child. This country has gotten entirely too liberal with its live and let live, if it feels good do it mentatlity. What physician would have performed this procedure? He/she should have their license yanked - permanently. If you're going to do something this insane and irresponsible and then make it public, you're also fair game for any cracks that come along.
I can't believe the things you all are writing… No one would have a problem with a lesbian being pregnant.. this is no different except for this lesbian chooses to dress like a man.. and call herself by one… It sounds like this child is going to have 2 loving parents so that's much MUCH better then 2 "normal" parents who are all drugged up and abuse their kids.. whose to say this is wrong.. the world is changing.. people need to be more open-minded.. and if you can't be then it's not really any of your business anyways….

I love Dave and he's usually on the right side of issues, but that was pretty lame — not funny and kind of mean. That said, I don't think the "pregnant man" deserves any more attention than anyone else. I support his right to identify as a man and have surgery, etc., but why should anyone get excited about a biological woman having a baby? Yawn.
The woman chose to become a man … at that point she gave up her right to reproduce. This is not a "have your cake and eat it too" situation. If his/her wife wanted a child, adopt one of the wonderful children out there who have no parents!
I find this whole thing disturbing and very selfish on the part of the adults. Children have a hard enough time as it is in this world without having to be put through this kind of a family situation. And as has already been pointed out numerous times, he is still a she regardless of what she might to do her outward appearance. So the media and everyone else is not correct in stating that a man is pregnant. I don't agree with it at all but if they really wanted to have a child, there are many that are in need of a loving family. With that said though, I would imagine that adopting wouldn't be an easy thing but I still think it's extremely selfish to put their own needs ahead of this baby. It isn't natural in every aspect, however, this is what the world has come to and will continue to go downhill. But I do think that she since she's not comfortable being a woman, then she shouldn't have the right to bring a child into this world. What a screwed up life this little girl is going to have. Shame on the parents.

They embody none of the transgender characteristics other then having had a double mastectomy and probably some male hormones back in the day. To be truly transgender you feel you are the opposite sex born into the wrong body….well I hate to break it to this pregnant person but being pregnant is NOT something a man can accomplish…nor would 99.9% of them want too! This is a classic case of wanting to "have your cake and eat it to" and anyone who says they are a man mentally first (having later having their body follow) would not be able to emotionally handle being pregnant or keeping the safety net of keeping their uteris and becoming pregnant at a later date!

i don't know if "androgynous freak show" was the right way to approach the situation but this whole pregnancy is NOT okay. i am not a hatemonger in ANY way - i love the gays, i have no problem with transvestites/transsexuals, i support gay marriage, etc. - but this is someone who no longer felt like a woman and decided to be a man. it's not just a woman in drag; he had his breast tissue removed and has obviously taken hormones to grow that facial hair. you can't have your cake and eat it too. when you choose to live your life as a man, you give up your right to do "female" things like birth a child, even if you still - for whatever reason - have retained the appropriate reproductive organs. quite frankly, i think that's selfish. if this is what he wanted to do, he should have stayed a woman in every way. this couple should have to go about getting a baby the same way as any other couple in which the female is barren: ADOPTION. he is doing a disservice to every male-to-female transsexual who just wants to be accepted as a woman, and vice versa. it's a shame that not only has he made the decision to do this, but he is rubbing it in the face of america. again, i absolutely support equal rights and think it's gross to tell someone else who they can or cannot be with, but there IS a line between genders. anyone who denies that is thumbing their nose at science.

I totally disagree that this situation deserves and sensitivity or support. The abilitiy to bear children is a gift to women, which this man FORFEITED by living his life as a man and taking testosterone, having his breasts removed, etc.
You would think the gay community would be outraged, as so many states do not allow gay couples to adopt yet this person can be on the fence about his sex and be a mom merely for convenience.
I can only imagine the physical and emotional reprocussions this child will suffer.

I know a man that got a woman, his wife, pregnant. He then decided he was gay. After that he decided he was actually a woman and had reassignment surgery. From there he decided that since he was now a woman, he could not have fathered a child and abandoned his child and insisted the mother tell the child he died.
Here is a in which a woman, decides she is a man, but then gets pregnant using science to aid her as she used science to pretend she was male. Yet bizarrely she wants us to still believe she is a man. Well, she isn't. She is just another human wanting 15 minutes of fame by pretending to be something she isn't. I just don't see why they couldn't adopt a child. There are many children that need good homes in the U.S. He/She had said that they deserved the right to have a biological child.
