While helping to raise awareness for autism, which her son has, and discussing the possible causes (including too many vaccinations for toddlers), this happened between Jenny McCarthy and one of the other panelists on Larry King Live last night.

Re: Grace E. – and to all the other unaware people
FACT: Research HAS shown that the mercury in vaccines DOES cause autism. RESEARCH it. Majority of people don't know it because you're too busy listening to retards like the ones Jenny is debating. Stop watching tv. Learn things for yourself.
FACT: Diseases and viruses don't just POP up out of no where if people aren't vaccinated. That's exactly what they want you to think. So no, tons of people wouldn't just die from these rare illnesses. Good job being brainwashed.

A study just came out, and the number of children with autism has continued to rise, even though the vaccines have had the thimerasol (what people claim causes autism) taken out of them. Vaccines don't cause autism…unfortunately, we don't know what does.

She's a publicity whore, using her son for fame. And I read this great article about how she contradicts herself in her book. There were autism symptoms present in her son (e.g. how he smiled later than his peers) before he was vaccinated.

  12. canadianmama says – reply to this

    112

I'm just sorry that the actual people that are making the money from these vaccinations weren't there to feel her wrath. There should be across the board blood testing for reactions BEFORE vaccinations are given and the pharmaceutical companies should pay for them. Just a thought.

I understand where she is coming from.

But, she should understand that she is on the show to debate and present facts. She is doing a deserve to those who support her b/c it only makes her look like some shrill bag lady.

There are better ways to get your point across…shutting people down and talking over them is not the way.

Plus, without vacinations…millions of children who be exposed to serious and dangerious viruses. Polio, rubella, mumps, and more are not something that you can wish away. She needs to get for real.

  14. autism researcher says – reply to this

    114

Jenny McCarthy does not deserve to have her voice heard. She is so horribly misinformed in thinking that there is a link between autism and vaccines. Science has shown time and time again that there is a genetic link, and vaccines have nothing to do with autism.
She is spewing misinformation. As well, her son did not die. He is still alive, and she needs to accept his special needs, instead of trying to erase them.

  15. stacy says – reply to this

    115

I agree with her - too many vaccines TOO SOON. I think vaccinating is important, but something needs to be done with the overzealous, paranoid vaccine schedule for babies.

    117

Not AMAZING, she bitched and moaned when the doctors wouldnt let her finish talking and then when they had their turn to make a point she went all crazy and interrupted them, NOT the way to get your point across. Yes autism and vaccines may have a link, but MANY people would die from other epidemics if diseases like Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Meningitis, RSV, Diptheria, Pertussis (whooping cough) were not vaccinated against. Its more the schedule of vaccinations that needs to change, not having them completely stopped. People need to see BOTH sides of the issue.

  18. concerned mother says – reply to this

    118

Its sad that this happened to her son, to anybody really, but I'm glad that somebody famous who people listen to is taking a stand for the better of every other parent. I can't believe that a-hole doctor said that they have already spent a lot of financial resources on this. Who fucking cares? why not question why cowboy Bush has spent trillions on BS in Iraq? I think its time our gov't did some legitimate spending and help our countries innocent children.

  19. Heather says – reply to this

    119

Her comments, and your posting of them on your blog, are totally irresponsible. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support the link between vaccines and autism. Immunizations are among the most important public health advances in human history, and have virtually eliminated some of the most fatal and debilitating childhood diseases, including polio, pertussis (whooping cough) and rubella. As a parent of two young children, it makes me so angry to see these myths about a vaccine/autism link perpetuated because it only serves to put more kids at risk of preventable diseases. Unfortunately, choosing not to vaccinate your children doesn't just put your own child at risk - it puts other kids at risk as well. Recently, there have been outbreaks of measles and pertussis in communities with a preponderance of families who aren't vaccinating their kids - these kids have infected other, much younger toddlers and infants who haven't had their full course of vaccinations. Don't believe the hype, Perez, and stop spreading uninformed, dangerous information.

As a mother of a spectrum child I think Jenny is an ASS. She doesn't have her facts straight, she is trying to sell a book, that is her bottom line. Mercury hasn't been used in childhood vaccines in 10 years, yet the rate of autism continues to increase. Unvaccinated populations have the identical incident of autism. Just where did she get her medical degree from? She needs to shut up.

    Re: Gary
You don't have to be a doctor to see that your child has been affected, in some way, by the vaccinations. And you should do your research, because HUGE studies on the vaccinations and autism only conclude that MORE research needs to be conducted and they can neither prove or disprove that vaccinations cause autism.

  28. jenna says – reply to this

    128

studies have shown and continue to show what jenny is talking about. My uncle is DO and does not believe in the immediate vaccinations of children and does not believe in certain vaccination.
THere is a linkage to children with increase disease - autism, asthma, etc. that are caused by to many vaccines at such a young age when the immune system is not ready to handle these immense amounts of medications and intense effects it has on the body

  29. Adria says – reply to this

    129

I've never left a comment before, but she is completely, totally, and utterly wrong. There is NO connection between autism and vaccines. It's been shown over and over again in double-blind studies. And when you're taking the word of a model and obviously biased mother over that of the best science we can do, you might as well throw your computer out the window and ask Jenny to type up your work.

    Hey idiot,
you don't have to be a doctor to know things about diseases and causes. It's called RESEARCHING and LEARNING for YOURSELF. you are just one of the tards in this world who believe college teaches us many things to prepare us for our future. Yeah that's only for people who are too dumb to do it on their own and have to pay a shitload of money to learn it from others. I know many many many things about many many many things and I don't have a degree in any of them. Knowledge is knowledge, whether you have a degree or not.

she's an uneducated idiot that is now claiming her son is "recovering" from autism. She is just another idiotic "actress" that thinks they know better than the medical community. It is an ignorant and dangerous stance to take against vaccinations. Scary. Oh and BULLSHIT is such an articulate and educated rebuttal. Go pick your nose, it's what you do best.

  32. Anne says – reply to this

    132

What an IGNORANT woman for using her celebrity status to say that vaccines cause autism when it has BEEN PROVEN that they do not. The mercurty derivative in autism called THIMEROSAL has been removed from vaccines for a long time now. Thimerosal is only present in flu vaccinations which most children do not need. IT HAS BEEN PROVEN that autism is GENETIC. Riddle me this Batman - why is it that if one identical twin has autism then the other identical twin has a 75% chance of also have autism?? Why is it that SETS OF TWINS have been vaccinated from THE SAME VIALS and only ONE ends up with autism? IT'S GENETIC! That being said, autism is triggered by something and it's probably pesticides and the environment. Also, 50 years ago people had autism and we had no clue what it was. It's more diagnosed now because we are simply more aware of it. JENNY McCARTHY needs to shut her pie hole. She is doing the world a major disservice by spreading around her ignorant beliefs. Now some dumb-ass mom (like the one above who won't be vaccinating her two year old) is going to hear her and choose not to get her children the NECESSARY shots they need to survive. If we stop vaccinating children then they will get POLIO and MEASLES. These diseases have basically been dormant thanks to vaccines. More proof that vaccines do not cause autism? Why do so many more boys have autism than girls? They get the SAME vaccines. JENNY - I BEG YOU TO SHUT THE F*CK UP!!

She doesnt want to stop vaccinations altogether, you idiots. She realizes that they are needed, but does a baby…a toddler of 2, really need to be injected with vaccines? If people take care of their kids, they dont need vaccines. I wasn't vaccinated for half of the crap I was supossed to have as a kid, and I never get sick. She just is saying that maybe they should space the vaccines out a little, wait till kids are a little older.

I like how she is funny, and pretty and yet smart and determined. there is no reason why children should be dying from a shot in a hospital. And she's right, something needs to be done, and if anyone is gonna do it, it's gonna be her. You go girl, I hope you read this!

    Re: shesnotadoctor
She might not have gone to medical school - and maybe she's "just a celebrity" - but i did. In fact, I work in pediatrics. I know the horrors that vacinations can cause. We are over medicating and over vacinating the children of this country to a degree where it's hurting them. I will NOT vacinate a child, and you'd be surprised how many doctors are coming on board as well. It's not the doctors that are all for this, it's the drug companies. It's about the all mighty dollar.

  43. lindy says – reply to this

    143

that's all you really need to do is ask for the vaccinations as individual vaccines. It's what they put in the combo vaccines that is controversial. My son had reactions to vaccines so he got them all separate and never had a problem. Sure, it's hard to watch your child cry with each poke, but it sure clear your mind. There is a chance now he could get whooping cough because that's what we skipped, but it is also something we can vaccinate him for now as a teenager. Just do your research. She could provide so much as a celebrity but just came across as screechy and vulgar. And it's true, diet and vitamins will not cure autism, she's lucky she was able to afford the proper helpers and be a stay at home, something the majority of the population cannot do.

  45. you're all stupid says – reply to this

    145

THE POINT ISN'T THAT CHILDREN NEED TO NOT BE VACCINATED. it's that vaccines need to be SPREAD OUT OVER TIME. children don't need to be stuck with 8 or 9 different shots every time they go for a checkup. no one here is a doctor, and the doctors aren't going to admit that they have been negligent enough to possibly cause autism and then get slapped with several thousand civil suits because of it. do you believe everything that you're being spoon-fed by the health care industry? because i assure you, that's a big mistake.

    147

this may sound odd, but there is a similar debate in the dog breeding community. My breeder recomends only minmal vacines because it causes a slew of problems later in life, like seizures and cancer. one dog lives 10 years 3 vacines a year. no sense. one child 36 vacines before they fully develop and can tell what sensitivities these kids have - neglegent.

It is a shame that the drug companies and medical community are so in bed with eachother financially, that it has become a money issue and not a safety issue. What are we actuall vacinating against with almost 36 vacinations. They will probaly just make a vacine for autism. More cash…

  50. LuvPerez says – reply to this

    150

She needs to shut the fuck up! I have two little boys ages 4 and 5, who have received all the recommended vaccines at all the recommended times. They are FINE. And the best part is that they don't have polio, chickenpox, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, rubella, pertussis, or hepatitis! All she is doing is scaring mothers into NOT vaccinating their children. Which is FAR more dangerous than going ahead and getting the vaccinations. The vaccinations DO NOT cause autism.

  51. p g wodehouse says – reply to this

    151

Got to love it when someone decides they're an expert without having an ounce of education to back it up. Vaccines save millions of lives around the world - the benefits greatly outweigh the cost. She should talk to the thousands of mothers around the world who have lost children - children who have ACTUALLY died in their arms - to diseases that are preventable via vaccination. I don't think she proved a point at all. She merely managed to sound like a hyped up, ignorant of the facts, celebutard.

Re: B79MOXIE – The Amish community also have no intermixing of genetics. They also have many other diseases that we do not have because of inbreeding. If Amish people do not have autism, that proves that it is a genetic disorder, not that it is caused by vaccinations. You need to research your claims before you post them.

  53. nickey says – reply to this

    153

She is not saying that vaccines are bad…..she is saying that the amount they are getting at such a young age is what could be causing it. Every time I would take my kids to the doctor for a "checkup" they were getting 3,4, sometimes 5 shots at a time…… Why not spread them out more?

  54. nik says – reply to this

    154

She needs to be careful what she says; false hope is a painful thing, and while she may have had one experience, that does not mean every child with autism can be cured by changing their diet or by giving them vaccines. If you look at the SCIENTIFIC evidence behind any of the claims she makes, there is NONE. I'm happy it worked for her and her family, but she is a celebrity, not a scientist and she has not found the cure-all. People need to actually do some reading themselves and stop being so fing gulible

There is no cure! I agree with the people who said that children who are not vaccinated are a health risk to other children. As the sister of an autistic boy, I would not want Jenny as the spokesperson for Autism Awarness. She makes it seem like such a curse, as if having an autistic child is an awful tragedy. My big brother is the best person in my life.

  56. Med Student says – reply to this

    156

    Perez-

You are doing a disservice to your readers by posting this. One tiny study claimed that autism was linked with vaccines and has been consistently and repeatedly refuted for the last several years. Moreover, thimerosol, the preservative blamed for causing autism, has not been present in vaccines since the early 2000's and yet autism rates keep rising. The recent government settlement with a family claiming vaccines caused their daughter's autism was a) in a court with a lower burden of proof than a regular US court and b) due to a mechanism argued to be based upon her underlying mitochondrial disorder. What parents don't realize is that when under 95% of the population is vaccinated for these diseases, EVERYONE is at risk of dying from diseases that should NEVER happen. If these parents want to put their own children at risk, that is terrible, but it is unconscionable that they put everyone else's children at risk as well. Please do not encourage the anti-fact, anti-science movement in this country that has sadly become so dominant in this country.

She is not anti-vaccine people. Babies immune systems should not be overwhelmed with too many vaccinations. Shes talks about alternate schedules for children. Autism was near non existent 25 yrs ago and now its becoming an epidemic. The only thing thing thats changed is the amount of vaccinations give to children. Do your research!

  62. No Link says – reply to this

    162

Sorry, she's wrong here. It's an emotional issue and I can relate that you want to protect your children best you can BUT there is no link between vaccines and autism. Firstly, almost all of the pediatric vaccines DO NOT HAVE Thimerosal in them any more and the incidence of Autism is increasing, not decreasing. No link, no vetted research showing a link. As for the vaccines, generally, and w/in accepted norms, if a child has a reaction, it's swelling at the injection site, a fever or body ache. Most vaccines w/ a few exceptions are dead viruses/diseases, they are just part of the bacteria/virus but the key part that teaches your body how to fight them. The key reason children so young get the vaccines they do is because the diseases the vaccines protect against KILL BABIES - it's not on a whim we immunize babies, it's because when infants get these diseases the vaccines prevent they die. HIB, POLIO, PERTUSSIS, PNEUMONIA, MMR - they're not deadly in adults that's why we don't get them as adults.
Too many people know too little about vaccines. Listen to your doctor - they're not making money from the vaccine companies - I know because I am one.

Many pediatricians feel the reason for the "increased" number of kids with autism is due to 2 things… 1) The high number of mothers who give birth at advanced maternal age these days, which carries risks to the child such as this and 2) Our definition of autism has expanded to include a much broader spectrum of kids than it has in past decades. While I love Jenny, I feel she is barking up the wrong tree on this one.

  72. Dhani says – reply to this

Good for her for standing up for her beliefs and rights, but it seems she's solely blaming shots as the cause of autism. How could you say that? Also, without their vaccinations, children have an increased chance of illness and even possible death. Are you not going to protect your child because of the "possible" risk of autism? My dughter got extremely sick after her MMR vacinations. She was hospitalized. Yet, they did not attribute it to vaccinations. They said it was a "viiiiiiiiiiirus" (when they can't properly diagnose it, it is called a "viiiiiiiirus)
So, I refused to have her vaccinated until she was in first grade and will not have any more.. You just have to sign a waiver in California schools by the way. And if they insist, I'll homeschool her. Have you ever noticed how the rich Pharma companies come up with new drugs every year from everything to "Shyness" to "dry toenails"? You Go Jenny! Thanks for using your celebrity to fight the good fight!!!!

I have a child with autism. This site hase been a guilty pleasure of mental junk food. I am an MD, Ph.D., SLP-CCC with 15+ years exp. with autism and my son is 8. Same age as you, Jenny, you big whore loser, but I spent my time getting an actual education, other than your pop culture factoids. You are an ignorant, alarmist person with visibilitity. Shame on you. Perez, please support facts and science.

WHEN ARE SOME OF YOU IDIOTS GOING TO WAKE UP???? It is pathetic that there are people who still believe that the AMA has everyones best interests at heart. NEWSFLASH THEY DONT!!! My nephew was progressing really well and was starting to talk and everything and be really good about his memorization, when suddenly it all stopped!!! It just so happened to be after he had a bunch of shots!!! ITS NOT A BRAIN DISORDER YOU DOUCHE BAGS!!! He was NOT born with autism!!!! The fact that so many children are now being diagnosed autistic should alarm more people than it has. But unfortunately imbeciles would rather sing praises to the drug companies rather than figure out what their lacing into the shots to cause so much more sickness than in past decades. As long as the AMA continues to discount natural medicine, and continues to accept money from drug companies, and peddle those drugs to the public, they will have no credibility. So long as Americans have to go abroad for proper cancer treatment because the AMA denies there are cures for cancer, they will have no credibility. WAKE UP PEOPLE, USE YOUR DAMN BRAINS!!!!!

    Re: whatever
Oh and how do you know this? Do you make vaccines?
Funny, I just attended a speech about autism and mercury in vaccines and they are still VERY MUCH in those vaccines, regardless of what you hear. Mercury is also present in make up - why? My state (mn) is the first and only state to have banned mercury in makeup.
At one point, it was thought that mercury and vaccines did not causes autism but now the book is open again and new studies do show the link between the disease and the poison.

Show me the data Jenny. Show me the fucking data. That old data that linked Autism with Vaccinations was debunked years ago. That researched was flawed 1. the pool size was 3-4 kids 2. they were high risk group 3. They already had Autism (it was not proved that the vaccines caused them) 4. the doctor who did this research was debunked, and kicked out of the research community. Its WORSE NOT to vaccine children. The % is higher they contract a fucking disease if you do not vaccine. Small trade off. More importantly lets get back to the data. Show me the fucking data! With a broad pool of participants!

Medical questions have to be left to medical science, and medical science has demonstrated to a degree of great confidence that there is no link between thirmesol or any other compound in vaccines and autism. Numerous studies have been performed showing no link whatsoever. There is no reputable scientific research showing any link whatsoever between vaccines and autism. Thirmesol was removed from vaccines almost a decade ago; there has been no corresponding drop in autism rates whatsoever. This is conspiracy theory masquerading as truth-telling.

In other words, trust medical science, not women who are famous for having big tits.

People need to realize that the study in England linking vaccines to autism was discounted by further, more recent, and more in-depth studies. Autism cases are increasing, but couldn't that be due to the fact that diagnosis of autism has become more and more definitive. Singling out vaccines as the only cause to a disorder so limitedly understood is unfortunate. Vaccines SAVE LIVES. For Jenny, and other parents, it is understandable they need something to blame and I truly feel sorry for her.

she's so fucking uneducated its ridiculous. Does she even know what a vaccine is? Does she know the history behind them? Their purpose? The biological impact? This is a personal issue that doesn't apply to everyone. She needs to shut the fuck up and go to school and do some research so her opinion can be remotely valid.

Jenny McCarthy is an idiot: an hysterical, finger pointing mess who cannot face the fact that genetics are responsible for autism. It's easy to delude yourself into thinking that everything BUT your genes could cause this disorder. She's a bully, and a misinformed one at that.

i have a brother-in-law, 2 uncles, and a cousin who are all physicians who've said the vaccinations ABSOLUTELY have something to do with the huge surge in autism and deaths among children between the ages of 1-2 years old. no *^%$#@ doubt! the doctors are full of sh*t or in denial. vaccinations put cash in their pockets through insurance companies. now measles and mumps and rubella are dangerous. but i was born in the early 1970's and no kids i grew up with had autism or very few. the numbers now are astronomical and it's not just because of being misdiagnosed back then. it was very rare. now? every other kid has autism. the medical industry is scary and arrogant and full of it. do not let any child get THIMERASOL WHICH CONTAINS MERCURY!!! put in them. do NOT. it is dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mercury is lethal to humans!

    Perez,

You can't possible support Jenny's actions. She's completely wrong. Vacinations aren't making kinds autistic. The science of identifying autism has gotten so much better, which is why they more kids are being diagnosed with that condition. Use your head for something. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I saw her at a national conference for speech-language pathologists, who work with children with autism all the time. She was so out of place. She was surrounded by well educated people (all masters or ph. d. level) who knew that she is giving so many parents of children with autism a false hope. Autism can not be cured by getting rid of vaccines.
