Jenny McCarthy Is Fucking Amazing!

While helping to raise awareness for autism, which her son has, and discussing the possible causes (including too many vaccinations for toddlers), this happened between Jenny McCarthy and one of the other panelists on Larry King Live last night.

You go girl!

There is a link between Autism and Vaccines… Below is an excerpt from Webmd, you can follow the link to read the full article.

    March 6, 2008

Girl's Autism Symptoms Linked to Vaccines
Federal health officials have conceded that several vaccines
contributed to autism-like symptoms in a 9-year-old girl, Hannah
Poling. For years, there's been debate among parents, researchers, and
the government over whether a mercury-based preservative in vaccines,
thimerosal, causes autism. Read the full story.

I have never in my life made on comment about anything I have ever seen on a website. However, I must say Jenny McCarthy is beyond amazing in her fight! I wish more people were like her!!! This cause and Jenny need all the support they can get!!

    404

WTF? Clearly, she is a pretty face, not a medical expert. While I'm sorry her son is autistic, it is undeniable that vaccines SAVE LIVES!! In fact, studies show that when less vaccines are offered, less frequently or without the suspected, incriminating additives, the rate of autism hasn't decreased! Jenny needs to stick to what she's good at - just looking pretty!

  5. RN says – reply to this

    405

There have been no conclusive studies showing that vaccines cause autism. There was one study done in London on 6 kids, years ago… you can hardly call that reputable. However, vaccines are made with mercury which is a neurotoxin so just because there haven't been any conclusive studies saying that vaccines do cause austism does not mean that vaccines do NOT cause autism. Parents can ask for Mercury free vaccines for their children, but usually the mercury is just replaces with some other toxin used for preservation of the vaccine. Its a lose-lose situation.

Let's bring Mr. "Jenny, let's bring it down a notch here." down a notch. I speak constantly about the Babyboomers survived just FINE without all of this shit. My children were lucky, but my grandson, after his second set of vaccines, and there were many that day, was sick for two months. He had Rubella, measles and chicken pox and felt like crap for two months! I suggested to my daughter that they use caution with the rest. He just had his 18-month immunizations the other day. We will see what happens this time. If am epidemic broke out, then OK, just like that stupid flu vaccine that is SO useless, emergency measures could be taken, but as an across-the-board act, I just don't buy into it. The pharmacuetical companies are the ONLY ones that benefit from this process.

I have such mixed feeling about Jenny McCarthy. I don't want to complain about any person, especially a person of her status spreading autism awareness. I am simply bothered by her methods. There has been more scientific evidence to disassociate autism and vaccines, then other factors. Chromosome 16 has been some of the most promising findings, in my opinion. I can't wait to see what we will learn from future findings. As a parent of a child with autism, I am exhausted from hearing people advise me to put my child on "that diet Jenny McCarthy has her child on" or to "read Jenny McCarthy's book." I have had well educated health care professionals give me their opinion and I have researched and studied on my own. There is no clear scientific proof this diet is effective for all children. I don't believe Jenny McCarthy realizes how damaging her opinions can be as she parades from talk to talk show, yelling them out for any person within hearing range. As I said before, I'm happy to hear her educate the public about autism. I hope we find the answers. 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism. If you want to educate yourself, go to autismspeaks.org. I just don't agree with the way Jenny McCarthy pushes her opinions off like they represent facts and the opinions of every autistic child and family out there.

Thank you so much for posting this. The very same thing happened to my son 9 years ago and there are thousands of us reporting the exact same reaction! People on this board have no idea about these so called 'scientific studies' oarents educated on the subject do–they aren't even looking for the same underlying mitochondrial dysfunction that is triggered by vaccines–eventually leading to autism. Those of you blabbing about 'this isnt science' should have been in my house when my son became autistic within days of his 1 year shots, after having a large vocabulary and VERY normal development. You just dont know what you are talking about and should refrain from being 'know it alls' about something in which you are just on the sidelines. Thank You Jenny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i believe that vaccinations are important but the chemicals that are found in them makes you wonder. aluminum, formadylhyde (used for embalming), themerisol, etc. most of these ingredients are used as preservatives and are not the actual potent ingredient used to prevent measles for example. will the pharmaceutical companies listen and remove these ingredients?? of course not. let's not forget that the patriot act which was created after 9/11 for America's national security, actually grants immunity to pharmaceutical companies against any future lawsuit claims against parents with children who have autism. so i'm guessing parents of autistic children are terrorists???!!!! this shit makes me so angry

  14. Tanya says – reply to this

    414

I think it's great that she's fighting for her child, but at the same time, everyone needs to take all of this with a grain of salt. The many benefits of vaccinations (i.e. preventing mass outbreaks of diseases that haven't been rampant since the early 1900s) far outweigh the minor risks. Everyone can't just stop vaccinating their kids just because Jenny McCarthy says it's the reason her child "caught" autism. Autism is a little more complicated than just getting a shot and then all of a sudden having it.

In addition, I disagree to her misleading statements saying that she has "cured" her son's autism. As a speech-language pathologist, I work closely with other professionals to help children with autism on a daily basis, including MDs, OTs and PTs. Ask any one of them and they will tell you that there is no known cure. While her son does seem to be more on the milder, Asperger's side of the spectrum, that doesn't mean he is cured. With the proper care, and depending on severity, Autism CAN be manageable, but not cured. It's a lifelong disorder.

    430

It's great that she's standing up to these guys, and I feel sorry for her, but…

The child mortality rates are significantly lower in countries outside of the US, and this can be attributed to the LACK of vaccinations. That, and it hasn't been scientifically proven that there is a vaccine link to autism. I'm not denying the fact that there could be, but at this point it's a tragic coincidence. Vaccines save so many lives, and it's very close minded thinking to think that they do more harm than good. Look at Africa and consider how lucky you are to actually make it through your childhood.

Let scientific research come before deep seated personal beliefs.

  31. kyry says – reply to this

    431

It has nothing to do with vaccinations. My son is Autistic and showed signs of Autism before he turned 1…it's enviromental..no one knows what causes it. It annoys me because autism cannot be "cured". With early intervention you can help make your child as normal as possible but it can never be cured. I think it is great that she is raising awareness for something that is a really serious issue but giving parents false hopes and telling them this doesnt help the situation any.

I have to say that Jenny McCarthy has certainly become a major positive factor to bringing the awareness of Autism to the main stage, sadly — the scarily staggering numbers of young children that are getting autism is not moving the awareness factor in quite the same way…

    436

She is right on the money….fact of the matter is that a 20lb child should not get the same dose of a vaccine as a 12lb child just because they are the same age. Yes vaccinations save lives but they need to reevaluate which vaccines are necessary and at what age. It is insane how many babies are lost to autism and in today's world it is criminal!

She is rocking the medical world and making a difference! If you watch the entire episode she was totally on target. She doesn't claim there is a cure for autism, doesn't say not to vaccinate your kid — she is only saying "hey lets take a good look at this" and figure out what has changed since autism is now 1 in 150 kids!!!! That is right people… may you never be blessed with a special needs child.

  40. PeaceNLuv says – reply to this

    440

You go Jenny!! I totally agree with her. In the end of the day, its up to the parents to make sure they're educated enough to understand what their child needs and doesnt need. Doctors can do only so much, and doctors will always want to vaccinate: it means more money for them. The parents have the final say and if your child has a healthy enough immune system, why give them the vaccination?! She's right though, doctors give too many vaccinations too early. This happened to someone close to me as well. Her child has mild traces of autism bc he was under heavy doses of vaccination for a time. The bottom line is get educated! Dont let doctors do whatever they want!

  41. M says – reply to this

    441

Vaccine overuse also makes a lot of sense, and the toxic overload in those small bodies also makes sense… You can not remove these factors — if parents are saying, gee my child was healthy one day then he/she got all these vaccines, then the next day, they were sic. You have to look into understanding why they they parents would make such a claim. I think Jenny is telling us that they are NOT looking into the effects of vaccines in Autism and that is what is frustrating…

(I can also see how having to look at the over vaccination of children would and could be controversial since it would place a certain blame on the medical establishment as to the neglect of how the vaccines are interacting in the numbers that they are given in those small bodies…)

  42. stopthehysteria says – reply to this

    442

She's so ridiculously hysterical and emotional. Vaccines save lives. If people don't get them we'll be back to days of polio and small pox. There's a reason people had to have 10 children before vaccines, it's because only 2 of them would survive into adulthood. The recent increase in autism is NOT explained by vaccines which have been around for 50 years. Changes in our socio-economic structures and mating choices DO. Genetics more than anything else has been shown to be a factor in autism. This hysteria is and fear of science is silly and counterproductive.

    445

I am a pediatrician, and it makes me sad to see this kind of ignorance. The number of children who would die from preventable diseases would far far outweigh the rare number who have side effects. The original evidence that linked autism to vaccination was actually proven to be fraud. The researcher who published the paper made up the results and the paper was withdrawn, too late though. And please keep in mind that as the incidence of autism has gone way up, diagnosis of mental retardation has gone down. So there were always autistic kids, even before vaccines, they just were not diagnosed as autistic because the disorder was not yet so defined. If people stop having there children vaccinated, we will be facing a major health crisis in children in the future.

  46. lizardo says – reply to this

    446

Sorry but while I sympathize with Jenny McCarthy and know it is very difficult to raise a child with autism, the link between autism and vaccination has been proven not to exist. There is now heavy research into a genetic link for autism. Much work has gone in to finding vaccines with a lower risk of reaction and the part cell (versus full cell) vaccines rarely cause a reaction. It is a hugely emotional issue but yelling over other peoples points doesn't make a clearer picture. Do we want to go back to the days of children dying from measles, mumps, polio, pertussis and more? I sure don't.

One of those particular ignorant bastards is Dr. Harvey Karp, a world-renowned pediatrician. While Jenny has every right to make her point based on her personal story, only parents who have never seen the horrors of polio, scarlet fever and other now-preventable (through vaccinations) illnesses would even consider not vaccinating their child.

  49. Seirra says – reply to this

    449

The idea that too many vaccinations may be a cause for autism is ridiculous. People who think that and began to not get their children vaccinated for preventable diseases are not only putting their children at risk but other children at risk as well. Public health and the medical community has come so far to get rid of certain diseases to have something not supported by science, threaten the health of the public. PREACH!!

  50. tash says – reply to this

    450

I feel sorry for the people who confuse emotionality for knowledge. They will see this and not vaccinate their children. I would not want to feel the terrible responsibility of knowing my child died of a preventable infectious disease when there is ABSOLUTELY NO evidence suggesting vaccines cause autism. In fact, the british scientists that initially proposed the link later retracted their paper due to faulty data. There has essentially been 1 paper, now disowned by its own authors, stating that vaccines are associated with autism and hundreds of others discounting that theory.

How sad that people continue to believe this. How much sadder for the unprotected children.

This is like saying the Gardasil vaccine will turn your daughter into a slut.

I like that there are some good points being made in the comments section and I hope this gets people to look into Autism themselves and learn more about it. Everyone has an opinion. There is so much information out there that will say there is a correlation between Autism and vaccinations, but there is also just as much information that will refute that. People do not have to be nasty to each other about the subject, just go out and educate yourself.

  52. Autism.. says – reply to this

    452

No offense but Jenny McCarthy is NO expert on autism. There have been numerous Clinical studies that prove that there is NO link between autism and vaccinations. Although autism is on the rise, has anyone thought that perhaps this is because of AWARENESS! When people are more aware of an issue it is much more likely to be found at an early age and reported. As the sister of a young boy with autism people need to read facts. I appreciate her story but by accusing vaccinations as being the cause of autism may hinder a child's overall health in the long run.

  53. sarah says – reply to this

    453

she has no idea what she is talking about–there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that proves that vaccines can cause autism. the cause of autism is completely unknown. all children receive vaccinations so there is not actually a strong correlation between the (still unknown) cause of autism to these vaccines.

  54. M says – reply to this

    454

Jenny is also saying, not on this Clip, but on another LKL show, that after her little "Evan" reversed his Autism symptoms, no one wanted to know and understand why and HOW that was possible. Clearly, if that was the case, than the medical professions have completely FAILED to find out how someone with a Autism diagnosis has revered to being a normal child after different therapies were given and are not recognized in Western Medicine.

    456

I would also like to see the rest of this argument, because it is a very contraversial issue that has alot of evidence on both ends, and it is important to recognize this! As a sister of a person with autism, and a special education teacher, having worked in a center for autism and teaching children with severe multiple disabilities for the past 10 years, I have seen many different forms of it (hence spectrum) and possible reasons. I understand many people want to find a cause and reason, Jenny states that there is a ton of research about the early vaccinations, but the truth is, there is a just a ton of research ,,,period,, for many different possible causes/factors of autism. The one good thing, is that these types of discussions prompt more research to better understand it, but it has not been proven,,,,yet! It's good to question, but not accuse…

    459

Jenny came off like an ignorant idiot. She is as bad as Hallie Berry saying she "cured" her diabetes. Jenny freely admits she got her information from Google. Who needs scientists when all the information can be had on Google? We are in the dark ages when it comes to dispensing information and Jenny McCarthy is a perfect example of that. There "seems" to be a rise in autism and related illnesses, but the research is just really beginning. A lot of people probably have some form of autism, but have not been diagnosed. How many studies have been done to show there is no correlation between autism and vaccinations? Too many to count and consistently they come back without a link. As far as mercury goes, you have that in most fillings until recently and in our drinking water. Jenny wants to blame the doctor for her son's autism, but I am sure there are other factors involved. Jenny did not even understand the dangers of smallpox and told the doctor she would rather her son had that! She would rather her son go blind and deaf? Small pox is not something you want your child to get. She came off looking as stupid as Tom Cruise about psychiatry. She is doing a grave disservice to the research on autism and that is a terrible shame.

    464

While well-intentioned, Ms. McCartney is woefully ignorant of even the most rudimentary medical information. She compared giving babies vaccinations to giving them cyanide. She's obviously unaware that the human body makes cyanide, anyway, and is already present in small amounts (significantly more than what any vaccination contains). The amount of cyanide present in some vaccinations is exceptionally minimal, even when considering a child's size.

If a child's autistic behaviors are "cured" by diet and vitamin supplements, the child wasn't autistic in the first place. They were misdiagnosed.

That autism shows up around the time when vaccinations occur is coincidental. Even in children who've not had any vaccinations, you still see autistic traits surfacing during the same or similar time frame. There is no proven causation, whatsoever. Anecdotal evidence by parents is not sufficient for scientists to prove causation. If it cannot be repeated in a laboratory environment, it's cannot be proven.

Again, I think Ms. McCartney is well-intentioned, but the disinformation she's spreading not only harms the legitimacy of her cause, it also increases the heartache in families with truly autistic children. Neither of which are her intentions, I'm sure.

  65. CherylD says – reply to this

    465

-It's great she's passionate, but most experts now don't feel vaccines cause Autism. Docs are continuing to research the cause-possibly genetics, environment, food, water, care given at home, etc.
-There is serious concern that parents holding kids back from vaccinations may result in death from diseases thought extinct, which mutate & attack people that WERE vaccinated.
-It's terrible her son was injured by vaccination. Did he get an infection or did it cause a serious wound? Sounds like a problem w/medical treatment her son was receiving individually, & could amount to malpractice. Same thing for the kids dying from vaccination injuries.
-I'm grateful that my son was vaccinated. I had chicken pox at 12, and was very sick, 107 degree fever (often fatal). Another child nearby did die from chicken pox.
-I hope Jenny's passion doesn't cause her to lose site that there may be other reasons for Autism. Who knows-it may be some strange phase of human evolution, or part of God's plan for parents?
-Jenny - Please keep up your passion & keep an open mind! Kids may end up dying from holding back vaccine, so until it's proven a cause, keep pushing docs to continue checking other places. Bless you & your courageous son! Cheryl

Vaccines save lives! There may be a link between autism and vaccinations (as well as casein protein and others), but vaccinating children saves more lifes than it has the potential to damage. There is still no proven scientific direct link between vaccines and autism.

Listen, there is NO scientific research stating that Autism is caused by too many vaccinations, in particular the MMR and there is also no scientific proof that a change in diet and vitamins will cure it either…I know this because I have study Autism, researched the topic and work with children on the Autism Spectrum. It's FANTASTIC that she is standing up for her child and being a great advocate, but in the end, she needs to do some hard research, I mean more then using "Google", and look at the professional Journals and read the SCIENTIFIC evidence!!! There is no known “cause" and it's believed that Autism is a Neurological disorder…C'mon people, removing vaccinations, adding in vitamins and taking out dairy and wheat products is not going to cure Autism…if this was the case, there wouldn’t be a single child on this planet diagnosed with it, so obviously it’s not a “cure” it’s an excuse to blame Autism on something else!

Unfortunately she's wrong. Vaccinations have nothing to do with autism- although I wish they did because then we'd know the cause. It is genetic, and while there may be unknown factors that contribute to it, it's not from shots. The theory that has been researched and tested for years is that a chemical in these vaccines caused autism. Well that chemical has been removed from all vaccines for years now and autism diagnoses haven't slowed down. Doctors & researches are working hard to try to find a reason for autism, but it's not shots. You're putting your child at risk for MANY more illnesses if you don't get them vaccinated.

If you're a doubter, all you have to do is answer this- how come there have been numerous autistic children who never received any shots, yet they still developed autism?

You go Jenny! That was excellent. Two out of my three children had adverse reactions to vaccinations that we are still dealing with… It is horrifying what the drug companies, CDC and AAP have done and are continuing to do to our children. They need to slow down… spread out vaccines. I have no doubt that I saved my youngest from damage by stopping his vaccinations at an early age.

Its a scary thought that people are listening to medical advice from the likes of Jenny McCarthy, remember she is famous for posing naked in Playboy. There have been several credible studies from highly respected medical journals which have NEVER found a link between vaccines and autism. She comes across as ignorant in this interview and medical experts have got to be thinking "I cant believe I have to argue medical evidence with this bimbo" Her arguments are overly emotional. She appears to be looking for someone to blame and is using this as a platform in order to displace her anger from the sad fact that she has a son with autism.

I agree with what shesnotadoctor said below.. i urge people to do research for themselves. no link between mmr vaccine and autism, plain and simple. we can't fault parents for looking for a reason behind their children's autism but let the research speak for itself. it would be disastrous for parents to withhold the vaccinations. scary.. do research (REAL research, not celebrity-opinion articles about this issue), please!!

As a mother of a child with autism I find it iresponsible that she claims that her child is cured of Autism. It is an ongoing process of Behavoior therapy that helps these children. It's fine that she wants to bring attention to the cause but she is still a dim-wit and needs to watch what she says!

Someone needs to tell these celebrities to not get involved with any serious matter including medicine and politics. I am so sick of seeing these idiots talk about issues where they do not know all the facts. Immunizations are not the sole cause of Autism. And her screaming like a maniac just shows how emotional and ignorant she is, get some class McCarthy or go to college and get a degree in medicine. Stick to what you know, which probably isn't a whole hell of alot. Dumbass celebrities!

Saw the whole program. Her behaviour can not be condoned. She is far from effective and should not be a spokesperson for Autism. Actually, she is a dis-service to parents with Autistic children and losing your head, as she did, is an embarrassment to others that wish to be taken seriously. Sure it's an emotional subject but you can draw more bees to hunny than you can to vinegar. Thanks Jenny, you should be proud of your ”street fight tactics”

I agree that her beliefs are not 'truths'. I respect her opinion, but bottom line is that the cause of Autism is not known. She is very passionate about her cause, but I feel she is sending the public a lot of her beliefs, rather than concrete facts.

She should not be advocating that vaccinations make kids have autism. This is not a fact. It will only cause parents to avoid vaccinations and cause their children risk and danger.

Try sticking to science, not emotion. Vaccines DO NOT CAUSE autism. She's not fucking amazing, she's fucking stupid. Know how many kids died of pneumococcus, hemophilus influenza, and pertussis pre-vaccines? Is a dead kid better than an autistic kid? Seems so according to Jenny.

  99. To all the idiots says – reply to this

    499

To all the idiots who keep saying she is anti vaccine clearly DID NOT WATCH the interview. All she is asking for is a safer vaccination schedule and the toxins taken from vaccines. She says this several times- she thinks vaccines are still very important! And NO she isn't a doctor but I am sure that she has done more research than everyone who has posted a response to this site. She also states that she did not "Cure" Evan from Autism but has "rehabilitated" him. Watch the whole interview before posting an ignorant fucking comment! It is ok to disagree with her but at least know what you are arguing against!

  100. Dr. D says – reply to this

NO SHE IS NOT AMAZING! She is an uneducated celebrity who happens to have a son with a disorder that, according to many new studies, may have a genetic component! We all get vaccines. What is the percentage of people who get vaccinated get autism? Extremely LOW. This is an irresponsible way to use celebrity status; it forces people to question hard working, loving, great intentioned physicians who spend countless hours devoted to their patients. Let's have another reason to sue doctors. How about everyone stops vaccinating their children, and they can all die from MEASLES. Unreal. Soon, there wont be any doctors left to put up with this shit, because it is almost not worth the struggle.
