Skip the versh on "Perez TV" and go watch it on Youtube…It is much clearer that at 32 seconds, she stops singing the last line in the verse to take a breath for the pre-chorus. Her vocal cuts out and her backup singers carry the last few words. You have to listen closely but it is very obvious and proves the live vocal. Of course she was singing to a track which is brought in and out of the mix, but she is not the sound engineer who is mixing it during the performance.

She is not 'lip-synching' in the traditional cheating way, a la A Simpson. She is a real singer. She's trying to recreate an album track for a live show, which is difficult w/out using her own backing tracks. She's singing the lead parts live, that is obvious, but for example in the chorus the recording is finishing a vocal line and she begins singing a complex vocal run before the next measure begins, impossible to do w/only one voice (shed have to basically skip the end of the previous line to be able to hit the beginning of the next line, ridiculous not to mention empty). She could have just used back up singers, but that costs a lot more $$ and for a one-off gig like this there's nothing wrong with what she did. besides, EVERYONE uses backing tracks now, rock bands, pop divas, rappers, electronic groups, you name it. Its the only way to recreate a record's arrangement onstage w/out spending major cash to hire singers to do each part. Radiohead, U2, Jay-Z, Madonna, even Pink Floyd, all use computer-triggered tracks & samples lifted from the record, just to get that huge sound. Opposite would be to perform stripped down, acoustic/unplugged, which is cool (a la Nirvana, Jay-Z Unplugged etc) but with R&B pop like MIMI that will only fly for so long before the dancing queens & chickenhedz in the crowd start going into withdrawals for a dance beat.
Mariah Carey is and always will be a DIVA and she does not need to lipsnych, It's not like we are talking about Ashlely Simpson or Britney Spears! It's Mariah Carey! HELLO!She's been labled a Diva for that reason, She can SING!!!!

Nah…she is singing live…but over a track of her background vocals. As Mariah records all her over lapping tracks w/ her own voice, so it would be impossible for her to sing all the tracks live…but she is definitely singing and it doesn't sound all that fantastic…

one of the judges said hat today there was one person who he cannot judge, as she obviously didn't sing live. i think her micro was on but she only sang very few parts herself. i was more distracted by hear wearing sunglasses, before the song performance she was there too without sunglasses and she actually looked quite normal.
