Oprah Winfrey has the touch of gold it seems, but could her helping others affect her in the end?
In a 1999 survey consisting of the most admired and well-respected women of the 20th century, Oprah came in second to Mother Teresa. Another recent poll showed that people thought Oprah was a more powerful woman than presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
With as much popularity and mass appeal that she has (don't forget her book of the month), Oprah has never publicly endorsed a Presidential candidate….until now.
Last year, she made it public on the Larry King show and stated "I think that my value to [Obama], my support of him, is probably worth more than any check.”
A lot of attention has been focused on Oprah and her support of Obama. She's appeared in South Carolina, Iowa, and New Hampshire at Obama rallies. Though what type of effect has Obama had on Winfrey?
New reports show that by last August, a CBS poll found that Oprah's favorable ratings had dropped from 74% to 61%. Then, just 10 days after the campaign media explosion, Oprah's ratings dropped down to 55%, and her unfavorable ratings climbed up to 1 in 3 for the first time.
Then, in December, a poll of Democrats by the ABC/Washington Post found that up to 10% of those surveyed were turned away from Obama by her endorsement. And, to make matters even worse, another popularity survey, which we mentioned last month, showed that 46% of Americans would choose Ellen DeGeneres over Oprah as their favorite TV host.
If this reasoning holds solid…..
Then hopefully this will mean people will like Heidi Montag even less and we will hopefully be writing about her and Spencehole less too.

i think that oprah had a great opportunity to invite the all the candidates to her show to talk about their run for the presidency…but unfortunately she chose to endorse a candidate right away.i love the fact that ellen is a hillary supporter, yet she has had barack obama on her show as well as hillary clinton. i get the feeling that oprah is shoving obama down the public's throat.

I have lost all respect for Oprah! I used to watch her show before but when her head started getting too big, I stopped watching!

People are turning away from Oprah because she's a phony. Every good thing she does turns into a press release. She gives away thousands of dollars of gifts under the pretense they are from her, when in actuality she has convinced large corporations to give away their merchandise on her show as free advertising. I know someone who is a neighbor of Oprah's and has been to dinner with her several times. Even these folks say that she's nice enough face to face, but she definitely has an agenda. Oprah needs to be friendlier to her guests during commercial breaks, those guests and the audiences have long memories and talk. She simply needs to remember what she used to be like and do it again! Sorry Oprah, but I'm done watching you!!!

I think it was Dr. Phil that did her in. Ever since the mess with the non-fiction fiction author, then Dr. Phil not being licensed and going after Brittney, I have less regard for Oprah.
I'll never forget when the staff at the Hermes Boutique in the South of France refused to let her in. Apparently they thought she was somebody's maid! No matter how much money she has…she'll never be able to wash the TRASH off of her!
DonImusSufferedEnough, the main difference is Don Imus spoke out and specifically targeted a group of people with racial slurs, something Rev Wright did not do. I dont agree with his statements, but there is a huge difference. Furthermore right does not have a nationally played radio show so his reach is not nearly as far as Don Imus'.

I too use to read O, but I got SICK of how egocentric it became. Oprah keeps endorsing snake oil salesmen like Troll and Dr. Phil. It seem Oprah saw a mirror and fell in love. She doesn't even check anyone out. She didn't check out Dr. Jan Adams and had him on her show. I have lost so much respect for Oprah. She is coming across as an arrogant and ignorant asshole. BTW, she was warned about James Frey's book being less than truthful and she went with it anyway. The New York Times did a whole expose on that. She pretended to be SHOCKED about it and never took responsibility for promoting the book. She was just pissed that James Frey made her look bad. I think she is hurting Obama by supporting him.

I know exactly what you mean — I read an article recently where two women were debating whether they still liked Oprah and read/watched her. One said she was getting power hungry. The other said "but at least she uses her power for good!" and the other one said "Yes, but why does she always have to tell everyone what's good for them!" This is just another example of that. It's too bad — I used to love her magazine, but I just get too irritated now. And you're right — so many of her choices have been far from wise — Dr. Phil, James Frey to name a few. There is also a video going around of her basically denouncing the foundation of Christianity and her belief in God. This country was founded on God and has a HUGE Christian base. Realize that a lot of Oprah's ratings are being affected not only by her stance on Obama, but also her new found "spiritual beliefs". If the woman caters mostly to mothers at home (most of whom are Christian in America) and then starts spouting anti-Christian ideals, obviously her ratings are going to drop.

You can tell perez isn't that smart. Three polls done by seperate companies can not be compared chronologically. Its like a first years research methods class. It makes no sense that backing a candidate that is More popular than Clinton would make her less popular.
Aside: If her popularity is declining it has more to do with her pushing the Secret and the Eckhart Tolle stuff….The Christians are her base and they aren't to down with that stuff.
Oprah knew exactly what the consequences could be when she did both, she is obviously at a point in her life where she cares more about supporting things she believes in and being true to herself than pandering to the masses.
