I dont agree with Artie attacking Teddy, but Wtf…Howard was instigating the whole thing. Arty was accusing Teddy of swindling money from him and always asking to borrow money and Howard was telling Artie he should just give him money when he asks for it. If I asked my boss for $500 just cause I'm sure my ass would be out the door quicktime.

I think Artie is gone , I think they have to fire him, he has done this all before. He will be missed.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED:
Artie was having an argument with his assistant, Teddie, during a break. Apparently, it got very loud. When the show came back from break, Howard started asking questions and brought the argument into the studio. The argument had to do with Teddie being a sub-par assistant. Artie and Teddie had words and Artie got irate, got out of his chair, and tried to beat up Teddie. Seven people stopped Artie from getting at Teddie. Artie then left the studio and went home. Several people, including Benji and Ralph, made commented that someone needs to be with Artie because they thought Artie was in a "suicidal state." It was truly exciting to listen to, but the rest of the show suffered because of it. Now Sirius has decided not to replay the show, as it usually does after the live show ended. We'll just have to wait until Monday to see what happens!
I think its ridiculous that they are not REPLAYING it this afternoon-I caught the tail end of this and have been looking forward to the replay. I don't think Artie is comming back, which sucks because he is one of the reasons I love the show.

Artie is definitely on something but it ain't the wagon. He has lost it…look for him to be dead within six months. I love Howard!!!
Artie has been slowly declining for the last year or two and I'm afraid if he goes to Amsterdam, he'll end up overdosing on heroin.
The problem he has now is that it has become a human resources issue now. An argument is one thing but attacking your assistant physically to the point that it takes 4 or 5 guys trying to hold your fat ass back is totally crossing the line. He's way out of control. It's going to be interesting to see what happens now.

Artie makes 3x's what he makes on the show doing stand up each week. Of course him leaving the show is a huge mistake and his fees will go down. I dont think he's concerned about the $ and that's why he's making such poor decisions.
I totally agree that he is back on drugs and needs and intervention. I went to a signing of the Beer League DVD in NYC in January 07 and said then that he looked like he was back on herion. How everyone on the show has turned a blind eye to it is amazing.
Artie even called Howard out about it today, but in reference to Teddy. He said "Stop looking the other way"

This definitely sucks, but AJ was banned by WXRK for similar behavior. Artie got away with throwing something at Sal once, now that he went after Teddy though I don't know what will happen. Maybe the Stern show will want to keep him, but what if Sirius doesn't want him in the building? HA then he can use the ISDN line from his house I guess.
I heard the show today and I really feel bad for everyone.. This is the first time ever in over 20 years (besides the 9/11 broadcast) that you could hear the pain in Howard's voice over this.. Artie we love you and support you!!

Artie cooled off in the green room, Teddy in gary's office, then Artie came back in and was then kind of pissed at howard saying he orchastrated the whole thing and it was howards fault for pushing his buttons and doing it on the air.
Then Artie said he couldnt do it anymore and couldnt guarantee he wouldnt do something like that again. And howard said then you cant be here and Arties said "I resign" and howard said "I accept".
Then Artie said "I gotta go, I love you, I gotta go" and walked out.
I am so sad… I heart Artie Lange… He is my fav on the show and it will not be the same without him. Hey perez when you headed back to the stern show???
He fell asleep on the air yesterday. He fell off the couch and kept sleeping? He's back on drugs. And that's what happened. If he sobers up he'll be back. Otherwise it is the horrible sad end of an era. The show has never been better, now that he's on satellite. And I dont know how it will recover from the loss!

Teddy the assistant was 100 % wrong, but Artie reacted a bit disproportionately. Artie's biggest problem is that his Catholic guilt makes him support all the losers in his life now that he's making money.
What they all fail to realize is that Artie is a SUICIDAL (recovering) HEROIN ADDICT. The teasing has to stop. As much as Artie says it doesn't bother him it DOES- DUH. This has nothing to do with Teddy. I believe the sleeping bit helped bring this on. The last time he QUIT it was a day after he felt ridiculed. and a recovering heroin addict is just that RECOVERING. Thanks for the recap. I don't have sirus so I haven't kept up with the show. I remember a few years back Artie disappeared for a few days. I saw him on Kimmel the other night and could not believe how heavy he got. I hope he gets the help he needs. For all those talking about how he doesn't need Howards b/c he make major $ doing stand up. Two words: Jackie Martling. The show gives them tons of exposure to pull in major bucks on side projects. Once they leave, everything else dries up.

Unfortunately, I don't think Artie is coming back to the show. He's really a liability at this point, and his pride will not allow it either. I'm not convinced he will be getting any treatment either. The people on the show have consistently said that there is nothing they can do for him. So unless his family puts their foot down, I think he's doomed for an early death of either an intentional or "accidental" overdose.

I was not a fan of howard until my hubby bought me sirius for Christmas a few years ago. Now I listen all the time. I am a huge fan our Artie and was actually going to see him when he came to Cali. Anyhow…that being said…I thought Howard really handled it wrong this morning. I think he knows that Artie is sensitive about personal issues on the air. I think he should have let them resolve it in the hall first. I know it could have been good radio, but I think instead it created the begining of the end.
On the other hand…Artie is a grown man and he should be able to control his emotions and control his rage. i wouldn't want to work with someone who had a temper rage like that. So…who knows!

Dude - Artie is funny and all, but he's been getting away with WAY too much on that show (calling in sick all the time, falling asleep, etc). He claims that Teddy has been taking advantage of him, but Artie is the one that's giving him the money he's asking for. All he has to say is "no". Artie needs some serious therapy.

I have been a long time listener and I feel ever since the show has gone to Sirius it has been going downhill fast. There are hardly any A-list guests anymore like there were at the end of the terrestrial days. Most of the stuff done on the show is done for Howard TV. It is almost like Howard wants to sell out hardcore before his contract ends because when it does he is going to retire and the gravy train stops. I mean the show is only 4 days a week now which is very weak.
Artie is definitely done with the show. There have been too many instances like this. He won't kill himself because he loves people feeling sorry for him. Artie is basically the shows punching bag which is fun to a point but it has gotten very old and I would say it is probaby time to leave. Without him though the show gets very weak. I wouldn't go back to terrestrial radio because it sucks but I have not been listening to Howard all that much anymore. If you didn't make the transition over to Sirius you really aren't missing much because with or without artie the stern show has been dying a slow death. I know the long time listeners will disagree but if howard made a doody for 5 hours day on the show they would listen and love it.

Gary said on the wrap up show that he swears on the life of his kids that this wasn't a stunt or a "bit" for the show. I honestly don't think Artie will be back. I don't see how he can come back. But we'll see…

One more comment as well, Artie is displacing his anger on Teddy saying Teddy is just collecting a paycheck and giving a half ass effort. What has Artie been doing on the stern show for all these years (sleeping, drugging, calling in sick, sleeping, no preparation for the show)? Artie himself has been giving a half assed effort and collecting a big paycheck and also getting a higher rates on his stand up gigs. This is all about what Artie truly feels about himself and he is displacing it on Teddy because he senses Teddy is doing the same thing to him.
Artie should go! What employer do you know that would let you sleep on the job! He is a high maintenance employee and needs to be let go! I love who hosted the AVN awards - let's get him.

For those who asked what happened, here's the short story. Artie and his assistant, Teddy, were arguing in the hall. Howard asked what was going on and the arguement got very very heated. Artie first threw a water bottle at Teddy then charged him. He was held back and wasn't able to get his hands on Teddy. Howard told him he was very disappointed in him and Artie admitted he couldn not be trusted to do it agan and quit the show. I'm so sad - he was the best part of the show. They are on vacation next week so it will be a while until we find out what happens…..
