Alicia Keys: 'Gangsta Rap' Created to Convince Black People to Kill Each Other
There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."
Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.
Another of her theories: The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."
Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.
Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.
The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin"' and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.
I used to like her. It's people like her who keep black people down; people who insist that blacks (and only blacks) are not responsible for their own paths in life. Did anyone actually read the article in "Blender"? She doesn't blame the conspiracies on any race. Please don't jump to conclusions. She blamed the crooked politicians in the US GOVERNMENT. However, there is much better literature for her to read than Black Pather autobiographies, whose members promoted the same violence that she's so against.

If you're going to decide to hate, do it on an individual basis. Get to know the person first. In my hometown Geneva, Switzerland, most Africans get college degrees and jobs at private banks or the United Nations. They all study hard, work hard, drive nice cars, spend week-ends in Paris or Milan, go to occasioanl holidays to Ibiza or New York, pay taxes and send money back to their families in Africa to help them out. And that includes just as much recent immigrants as 2nd or 3rd generations. Most of the city's criminality and poverty concerns French people from across the border and Eastern Europeans (for many socio-economical reasons I won't get into here).

(she definitely takes it over the edge). the point she should be making is that record execs do control what kind of music is on the radio. these white media execs tell the rap stars that talking about violence, drugs, and women is what sells and they won't succeed with anything else. and if you actually ask these rap stars they'd rather not be talking about that stuff. you all should watch Hip Hop: Beyond the Beats and Rhymes. there is something to be sad for the way rich white men control rap music and how this affects what we see in the media. although i don't think it's a ploy by the government…that's a little much.

How is this relevant to the issue? Maybe if people didn't fly off the handle and make illiterate comments (see: Miss Keys) and yourself for that matter they wouldn't be called out. every country/culture/religion has experienced a conquering of some sort. I guess YOU slept through that part of history class. In Toronto we just passed a Bill allowing "all black schools". I think EVERYONE should learn black history, not just blacks. I think the point being made here is black on black crime, and black role models. Take for example 50 Cent. Many kids look up to him and because he raps about gangs and crime, they get into gangs and crime to emulate him. How DUMB is that. 50 Cent is rich because he is a rapper, who got out of gangs. He didn't make money being IN a gang, he just got himself shot 7 times. He made money when he STOPPED being in a gang. If you want to emulate him, don't be a gang banger. Unfortunately, the music coporations (mostly white owned) do play up his gang banging, and use it to sell his stuff, so THEY ARE peddling crime to kids, by saying gang banging is what makes 50 Cent cool and got him rich, when actually being a gang member never made him rich at all.
