They both are hispanic of course, but they have different heritages really. For the majority the only real Spanish thing about you is the language you speak. Remember Spanish people enslaved Indians much like the British people did. No reason to be upset about that now, it just irks me when darker Hispanic people dis white people, but then claim to be proud about their heritage.. especially when there is a good chance they are part white themselves 
Are you really of Spanish (EUROPEAN) heritage though? Perez probably is but I would say the majority of Hispanic people have more Indian (Mayan, Incan, etc..) heritage, or they are mixed.. rather than actually have Spanish heritage. I love it when short brown Mexican girls say they are Spanish (I'm sure that causes a few ancestors a roll or two in their graves) and say white Spanish girls don't look hispanic at all
