I lost my dad to this awful disease 2 years ago this coming Sunday 4-20-06. Thank you for bringing awarness to this disease. It is truly heart breaking to watch someone you love dying for it.

I realize that Reagan did some bad things in the past but if you have ever met anyone with Alzheimer's it doesn't matter. If you don't know someone alzheimers you don't know how hard it is to see them completely forget who they are. They become a hollow shell of what they once were. My grandmother has alzheimers and we finally figures it out when she started to forget things about me during my freshman year of college. She used to be the type of person who would "dress" for everything. She would never be seen in public without being completely put together. It is heart breaking to see her the way she is now. We have to resort to forcing her to take a shower, breaking into her room to take out the clothes she wore for a week straight, taking her to the hairdresser once a week just to have her hair washed, all because she doesn't remember. Alzheimers runs in families so at this point there is a good chance of my parent's having it and ever my sisters and I having it as well in the future. I really don't want to see that happen.
Even though you may not like one person with Alzheimers, think about all the other people effected and the families of those people.
It is important to not sound like Alzheimer's is just losing your "memory". It is a very sad disease where your brain degenerates and you lose the ability to know who and where you are, have personality changes, live your life afraid, and eventually are unable to feed and clothe yourself. So, please do not say "without your memory you're nothing'..because it is FAR more serious than that.
For all you who post your negative comments about Ronald Regan, you are totally missing the whole point of this post. Keep your hatred to yourselves and try to focus on what this post is really about. My father is 66 years old and is in his final stages of Alzheimer's Disease. He will never see me walk down the aisle, he will never see the births of his grandchildren, etc. etc.
This disease is multiplying in cases year by year. It's frightening and more people need to know about it. Donations to fund research are critical!!!!! The answer is there ~ it's just an evil shame that the lack of financial support hinders our ability to unveil the medical mysteries that we have the capability to solve.

My grandmom has suffered from Alzherimer's Disease for 14 years. She has lost her memory as well as several motor functions. But she is much more than nothing. As human beings we are precious and sacred right down to our last breath. I am thankful for every second I get with my grandmom, even if she doesn't remember me. And when she dies I will be thankful that she finally has a place to rest. But she is certainly not nothing!

There is a little book out there called "And the Band Played On" by Randy Shilts about the beginnings of the AIDS crisis in this country, please read it. Did you not even know that 25,000 people had died from AIDS in this country before Reagan even said the word out loud in public?? Reagan is responsible for the worst dereliction of duty this country has ever seen by not acting on the AIDS crisis before it took off, and countless lives have been lost because of his religious bigotry (believing that AIDS was a curse from God sent to destroy gay men specifically). There is no telling what could have been done had an actual human being been in office at the onset of the AIDS crisis instead of that pathetic, disgusting, bigoted piece of sh*t; he's lucky if he happened to get a private room in hell after the suffering his inaction caused.

As an optimist Ronald Reagan, had he been our president today would be compassionate and faithful in his dealing with our AIDS epidemic and gay issues. Your a smart guy and as a gay man myself, we both know that while people criticize Reagan for what he didnt do for AIDS when he was president over TWENTY years ago, the gay community has done just as little to combat it today. That criticism of Ronald Reagan is getting stale when an increasing number of Americans are infected every year and gay youth are being destroyed by meth and alcohol.

Voting safeguards measure fails in House !
TRENTON, N.J. - Legislation sponsored by a New Jersey congressman that would have reimbursed states wanting to adopt voting safeguards before the November presidential election failed to win approval Tuesday in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The bill, dubbed the Emergency Assistance for Secure Elections Act of 2008, fell short of the two-thirds majority it needed to pass, even after clearing a House committee unanimously. The vote was 239-178 in favor, with all but two Democrats supporting it and all but 16 Republicans opposed.
The two Democrats who voted nay on H R 5036 were Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Nick Rahall. The 16 Republicans who voted in favor of the bill were Reps. Vern Buchanan, Steve Chabot, Tom Cole, Tom Davis, Charlie Dent, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Mario Diaz-Balart, Jim Gerlach, Dean Heller, Tim Murphy, Marilyn Musgrave, Jon Porter, Jim Ramstad, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Chris Shays, and Chris Smith.
The bill would have allowed states and jurisdictions to be reimbursed by the federal government for converting to a paper ballot system, offering emergency paper ballots or conducting audits by hand counts.
The measure was designed to ensure that every vote is properly counted. Voters in all or parts of 20 states including New Jersey now cast ballots electronically without backup paper verification, according to the bill's sponsor, Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J.

Since you are so proudly gay, you should know that Reagan completely ignored the AIDs epidemic during his entire presidency. He never once acknowledged that AIDS even existed let alone did anything about it. Millions of people died as a result.

You are right this is a good cause, but you picked the WRONG person to use as an icon!!! Regan was the biggest opponent of Stemcell research and cut funding to any facility that wanted to research SSR cures. So flash forward a few years and what is the best way to fight Alz? You guessed it stemcell therapy.

What? Yes, losing your memory is probably one of the worst things that could happen to a person, but that doesn't mean they're nothing. They're still somebody, still loved, and to their family, they're EVERYTHING.

My Nana has been suffering with this for almost 10 years, she gets worse as the days go by, but she's not nothing. How dare you even say that? Obviously no-one close to you has suffered with it.

Personally, I can't think of one other person I'd rather see get Alzeimer's Disease than Ronald Reagan. It took him over four years to acknowledge the fact that AIDS even existed. Do you know how many Gay men died in that four years? Thousands upon thousands. I personally hope he is toasting his ass in hell.
