Brigitte Bardot: Nutjob Going To Jail???

French law officials want to throw the book at 73-year old screen legend Brigitte Bardot for inciting racial hatred toward the Muslim community.
Brigitte (a vocal animal activist) stated in a letter that she wrote to then interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy (now President of the country) protesting the method of slaying sheep during the Muslim festival of Aid El-Kebir.
"We're fed up with being led around by this whole population which is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts," she said.
A bit harsh, baby?????
Bardot was upset because the sheep weren't being stunned before they are bled to death, which is the 'traditional' method.
The letter was published in a magazine and distributed to supporters of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation.
Several anti-racism groups in France filed complaints about the letter, accusing Bardot of provoking discrimination and racial hatred toward Muslims.
Bardot has been convicted of similar offenses on four previous occasions since 1997 and fined $2,250-$7,500.
The court will deliver its verdict June 3.
You'd think that after all those years of being alive the old gal would have gained some wisdom and learned some diplomacy!

While Ms. Bardot's comments may be insensitive, I find it ironic that it is Sarkozy's government who is persecuting her for speaking her mind on this subject! As a muslim myself i just want to clear this up. First of all in Islam its stated that you shud cut the sheeps neck(jugular vein) so it wont feel any pain. So that it dies quickly and painlessly. Not in a barbaric way as Bardot implies. I would say 'stunning' the animal or shooting as is common practice would be much more painful to the animal. When the animal feels pain its actually haram(forbidden)to eat the animal.
And also Dave#13 I dare you to show me where thats written exactly in the quran. Its all hearsay. Theres no truth to that. Islam promotes tolerance.

Many, not all, of the Muslims in France refuse to assimilate but want the French government to provide them with jobs, benefits, televisions, etc. Wouldn't you be crying foul if that was happening here? France's equivalent to Section 8 is being overrun by a large population of Muslims from the middle east. hey are coming in with more then 6 children, and most of them get housing with rooms of their own. Being a Muslim my self i find it sad that people have such hatred. This kind of prejudice is the source of all evil and war in the world. I come from a beautifully hybrid background both my parents are converts (Christian father and Jewish mother) and i was raised to respect every living creature, I'm proud of my background. Sure people disagree with the process of killing sheep in Islam but what many people don't know is that the meat is given to poor starving families. I support freedom of speech 100% but a distinction must be drawn once some one starts discriminating other people. Bardot is entitled to her opinion, we all are, she could of expressed herself in a way that wouldn't have deemed the whole population of Muslims as being bad people. Bridget was one of my icons she was after all a very beautiful woman but I've lost my respect for her. everyone here is speaking about freedom of speech and how she should be allowed to say what she feels and I totally agree with that. But happened to freedom of religion? Is everyone not entitled to that as well? And before you paint ALL muslims with the same brush I ask have you ever met one? Its easy to "hate" muslims in a theoretical perspective but hard to "hate" your neighbor, friend and co-worker. So try and be understanding and don't let the actions of a few condemn the lives of all muslims.
