What Would Jesus Do?

Filed under: TV News > Gay Gay Gay

041608095106-1.JPG

Azariah Southworth, host of the popular Christian youth show The Remix has done something radical (at least in the Christian world).

The host of over a year and a half has come OUT of the closet! As a homo! A gay!

Congrats on coming out!!!!!

Amen, we say. aMEN.

Southworth says, “This has been a long time coming. I’m in a place where I’m at peace with my faith, friends, family and more importantly myself. I know this will end my career in Christian television, but I must now live my life openly and honestly with everyone. This is my reason for doing this.”

The Remix is seen in more than 128 million homes worldwide. The show is in syndication and averages more than 200,000 viewers weekly.

Southworth has risen to fame in the Christian world and has been featured in different national publications, such as Charisma Magazine and many other religious media outlets.

Southworth adds, “I know I will be cut off from many within the Christian community, and if so, then they didn’t get the point of the life of Christ. I believe by me living my life honestly and authentically now, I am able to be a better person and a better Christian. We all know there are so many other gay people in the Christian industry; they’re just all scared. I was scared, but now I’m no longer afraid."

He probably just ruined his career in the Christian biz, but better free and happy than closed and oppressed.

All I know is God wrote in the Bible that NOT everyone who calls HIS name will enter heaven. He expresses clearly in the Bible that gays (including effeminates) are CONDEMNED unless they repent. So this guy is completely mistaken and OBVIOUSLY he NEVER was a TRUE christian. This guy is completely crazy..not only crazy, he is dangerous because he is confusing people. PEOPLE THERE IS A WAY TO HEAVEN AND THAT WAY IS JESUS CHRIST, BUT FIRST YOU HAVE TO REPENT FROM YOUR SINS AND YOU HAVE TO CUT FROM THE ROOT THE THINGS THAT TIE YOU TO THIS SINFUL WORLD.

#199 IF THEY ARE BORN THAT WAY THEN HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN PEDOPHILES, THEY ARE THE SAME AS GAYS THEY HAVE SEXUAL DESIRES(THE DEVIL ) TO HAVE SEX WITH CHILDREN, AND THEY CAN EITHER GIVE IN AND BECOME A PEDOPHILE OR THEY CAN FIND GOD AND PRAY AND FIGHT THE URGES, THEY WERE NOT BORN THAT WAY, AND ITS THE SAME WITH HOMOSEXUALS , BOTTOM LINE.

Despite being very active in the Christian community since, well, birth, I had never heard of Azariah until this evening when I read this post. Azariah, I hope you read this — I had to reach out to you and congratulate you for your decision to be honest about who God has made you to be. Over the past several years, I have been in the process of coming out, found an amazing Christian man and am learning more and more about God's "yes" of acceptance. For the first time in my 38 years, I finally feel whole and like I am being true to God.

There's so much that can be said about interpreting the scriptures surrounding this topic. As you know, there are legions of us who have struggled with our orientation. Struggling is pointless as God always wins. When he creates you to be the person you are, all the brainwashing and "straightening" the gay out of you won't work. I believe that there are some people who have tendencies, but there are many who are simply born the way they are. God says that each and every one of us are "wonderfully made." Believe it.
God bless you for taking this courageous step. I am encouraged and so proud of you — and I don't even know you! I am praying that God will open up new doors for you to make up for the ones that will invariably slam shut. He is faithful!

That's a HUGE step in the right direction for this guy. I'm really happy for him. So many people out there wish that they could come clean in front of their fam and friends, especially in the Christian community, but don't have the guts to do it. GOOD FOR HIM!!

#208 THATs VERY BOLD OF YOU TO MAKE SUCH A CONTRADICTING STATEMENT SAYING "THAT THATS HOW GOD MADE HIM", THATS LIKE SAYING THAT GOD MADE A MAN LIVE A LIFESTYLE THAT GOD HIMSELF VIEWS AS ABOMINABLE, HOW CAN YOU CLAIM TO BE A TRUE CHRISTIAN AND say such things.

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
    Galatians 5:16-17 Read Galatians 5

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
    2 Timothy 3:16-17

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

why don't you actually try reading the bible?
in the bible it says so clearly that homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of heaven. it says this more than one time. how does this guy think being gay is making him a "better christian?" because isn't the ultimate goal of a christian to spend eternity in heaven with God? he has some serious issues that i hope he can work out with the lord. if you only believe certain parts of the bible, you have created your OWN religion. that is not christianity. God is not whoever you want Him to be.

    227

Thou must not judge….. we are all sinners…. we are all gods creations….. Jesus died for our sins
All organized religious leaders need to take a flying leap as far as their fixed focus on homosexuality. They are sinners just like the rest of us. They have no business attempting to interpret the bible and apply it as they see fit. A relationship with god is individual and personal. The issue of homosexuality has no business in the church congregation. Sexuality of any kind is personal and as far as religion goes is between that individual and god. Noone should be made unwelcome in church. I also believe marriage should be taken out of the church and be made a civil union for everyone.

hm, it s not such a big deal in my country to be gay AND Christian. As I truly believe that you are BORN with your sexual orientation, I do not see why anyone should criticize anyboday for being gay or lesbian (I myself am straight, by the way, but I ll always defend equal rights in life for gays and lesbians.)
Most religions interfere with sex in a negative way, I wonder why….

You know, as a Christian…I'm glad he came out of the closet. No one should have to live a lie. But I think it'd be good for him to step down from the show…not Christianity…just the show. You can't step down from Christianity. Your faith is your faith and no one can take that away from you. Christ's love goes beyond homosexuality as I feel that many Christians's love should also…too bad it doesn't. But I wish him the best and I pray that his church continues to work on him so that he can get back on the STRAIGHT and narrow. In Christ's Love…

Re: musclechip@adelphia.net – Going to hell for being gay? What Bible are you reading? While the Bible is clear in saying homosexuality is a sin, we ALL have sin in our lives and none is greater than the other. As a Christian, my salvation was bought by the blood of Jesus. Nothing I do (or don't do) will ever make me worthy of that sacrifice. I am just thankful and accepting of that gift. God loves all of us no matter what we do. He just wants us to love him back and to love one another!

    Re: deedee

The bible actually says that we can judge "those who are in the Body of Christ" (meaning those who are saved). We can judge their fruits (what they produce) ONLY to hold them accountable (let them know that what they're doing isn't right). That's it. We can't CONDEMN (you know, saying "he's going to HELL!"). Just wanted to clarify that.

    Re: BO
Someone asked once, "When did you know you were gay? I asked him, "When did you know you were straight?". If I would have had a choice, I would not have made the choice to be difficult. I'm in love, with a man. I'm glad I can find this sort of romantic love, all the hetros of the world seem to rub in our face. I spent the better part of my teenage years visiting a therapist in order to "cure" me of my homosexuality. Well, I DIDN'T WORK! The reason is because, there is no cure! You are born the way you are and thats it! If people don't like that then try and imagine a world where you are the only straight one and you are forced to live a lie!!!!!!! There is no cure but there are people that live lies. I could decide to live a "straight" life style right now, but that won't change that fact that while I'm at Disney Land with my wife and children, I won't be rubbernecking at all the beautiful, sexy guys that walk by me. Get real!!!

Wow! This guy is brave! God bless, Azariah! That was an awesome thing to do. 'Christian' people can react very UN-Christian like when faced with too much reality and him coming out of the closet might push some over the edge. My advice to him would be to live free,be happy, but WATCH his back! I don't think you will burn in hell. I don't think any bad will come to you. I DO think the entire Christian community will turn their ignorant backs on you and for that - feel sorry for them. Losers! I am not gay and I am of Christian faith but I am not a fanatical robot. I love everyone!

    239

As a christian i find this appaling and really sad. Jesus said in the end days false profets and deceivers would come in his name and yet be liars and sinners. Sadly this is one of those cases. How can someone call themselves a christian and not believe the scripture? It clearly states that a man or woman that lays with one of their own kind will not enter the kindom of heaven. I dont know how someone can think that's rhetorical unless of course they never learned how to read. All homosexuals, liars, drunks, club goers etc are doomed to spend eternity burning in flames. dont get me wrong God loves everyone but not everyone can call themselves his child unless they do his perfect will.

This discussion saddens me. I am a 46 year old mother of a beautiful gay son. We live in a state which is full of homophobic Christians so his coming out was extremely difficult for him. That said, here's the thing, we are Christians, and my response when faced with inconsiderate remarks from people who don't have a clue is simple. God made my son, he made him perfect just as he is. I have three wonderful children, two who are heterosexual and one who is homosexual. The world is huge, full of diversity and differences, big enough for all of us. My Christianity teaches love and acceptance, not ridicule and judgement. My son is kind, generous, sincere and full of love. I believe when we reach Heaven, God will send the hypocritical Christians to the corner and bring those who lived their life honest and true to His side. That's the God I worship, the God of Love!!

    242

1 more thing- God does love all people including homosexuals but he does not approve of the lifestyle and cannot go back on his perfect word and due to his love permit them to enter heaven. Christians should try to help homosexuals to turn from their ways(the lord says to do this) but if they dont then we cannot be near them as the righteous and sinners dont mix(what would we talk about , sex? i dont think so) this is what the lord says to do and hat he did himself during his lifetime. he helped the willing sinner find the light but unfortunately you can only try to save someone so many times before they tell you to get away.

I'm not saying this guy is going to hell, I'm just saying please don't say God doesn't judge.

  53. carla says – reply to this

    253

Re: big al – i read the same bible you do and while i agree with almost evertyhing you said there's something missing. We as saved christians althought we still sin are no longer"sinners" becasue by grace we are forgiven when we ask for it and try not to repeat the sin we were forgiven for. We strive to live a righteous life.I sin on a daily basis, but its an unknown sin, a reaction,a curse word or feeling, somthing that when i notice it i ask for forgiveness and am concious to try not to repeat it. Willing lifestyles like clubbing, drinking, smoking etc have no place in my life. I dont go to the club then repent and do it again the next day. This is not repentance in the eyes of God and therefore we cannot be forgiven. This is the issue with gays. While God loves them and they may very well love him back they cannot be forgiven for their sin becasue instead of turning away they choose their sin above God. You cant very well as a gay man wake up next to your lover ask forgiveness for being with him and then wake up to him the next day again. While i realize the tendencies strong one should choose God above all else and withhold the urges. This is a life of sacrifice not indulgence. We all have one huge weakness the devil ribs you and prays on, some are liers, some gossip and all those sins are just as bad and being gay; the point is you need to be concsious to your sin and TURN AWAY.

Re: EmiliaRe: ashleyRe: ALL GAYS WILL BURN IN HELL. PERIOD – Number 203/217/224 : Read your New Testament carefully. Jesus Christ, HIMSELF, never made a single comment on Homosexuality. Not even Sexuality. He came here to save souls, to spiritually heal. Souls and spirits have no sex. Sex is a convention by which biological species reproduce. Biological species of the planet earth, material creatures. Whose bodies and sex are buried in the ground, to decay, after death. The Spirit/Soul liberated. Jesus repeatedly, in his own words, tried to reach people on the level of the spirit. He was not interested in the material conventions of the world. Bible-Thumpers, read the texts carefully you are trying to use as your evidence.

Incidentally, I have purposefully read several versions of the Bible, and nowhere, NOWHERE, does Jesus Christ HIMSELF speak on the subject of homosexuality. Actually not even on Sexuality. God sent Jesus to bring a new message for modern man. A spiritual message. His message was obviously too sophisticated for buffoons like you, unfortunately of which there number many in the world masquerading as "well-studied, correct-thinking, so-called Christians". Which they are not. You are not. Your opinions have no foundation in the message of God's Son and Messiah to the earth.

Regarding dancing, if you can picture jesus getting "jiggy" with it at the club to the tune of danity kane's damaged while contorting his hips with an apple martini in his hand then be my guest. Who gives the Christians the right to criticize anyone. If they were to read their bible (like they say they do) they would know that it isn't up to us to JUDGE ANYONE! It's high time that the Christians (with a capital C) became christians (lower case) and truly followed God. What would Jesus do? Aren't we all God's children? Selah!!!!

Excellent. This guy is a true follower of Christ. I admire his integrity. Makes me feel less ashamed to be associated with Christianity. I have no problem following Christ but I do have a problem with some of the actions and words of people who missed the message entirely but still call themselves followers.

For all those that are confused with what the bible does say about homosexuality: I have a few scriptures for you to look at. Matthew 19:4-6, romans 1:26-27, ICorinthians 6:9, ITimothy 1:10
All of these talk about homosexuality ans the sins men and women commit when going through with these immoral acts.

Born gay? No, i believe that men are sometimes born with feminine attributes and some women are born with more male attributes, but that doesn't make them "gay". They CHOOSE to be with another man or woman. We all have minds to make choices, I choose to be a Christian, and a Jesus believer, and follow God's word….others choose to follow other organized religions. That is your CHOICE. Just like a friend of mine that is a Christian and has feelings toward women…she CHOOSES to follow through with those feelings. Just like the male friend I have that has feelings toward men, he CHOOSES not to follow through with those feelings. It is all a choice, that is why God made us with free will and to make our own choices. We know by reading the bible what God prefers us to choose, but we make our own free will choices.

I don't have an issue with gay people, i will pray for them and hope they make the right decisions based on what God would want them to choose.

Maybe this guy coming out will help other Christian youths do the same. I am very hard pressed to believe that the ENTIRE CHRISTIAN YOUTH movement is straight like thier parents and pastors want to believe. Why can't you just love people for being good, and not for what they do in the sack?

i'm a christian and i say GOOD FOR YOU. Any "christian" who judges him or kicks him out of their big christian community needs to ask God for forgiveness themselves…DONT JUDGE AND DONT HATE. It makes me said that the biggest haters of all are (fake) christians :(

The bible does say homosexuality is an abomination but it's not up to us as Christians to point that out to them. They already know that. If they choose to do that it's between them and God. People need to focus on improving themselves instead of worrying about what other people are doing. If they are not bothering you it's none of your business. :)

As a Christian, i would like to thank this guy for coming out. I think the part of the Christian community that does not accept homosexuals needs to take a good look at this guy–obviously he is strong enough in his faith and a positive CHristian role model to be on a CHristian TV show. He's no different from the next Christian, and it's about time the Christian community realizes this!

If he thinks the Christians will come down on him for being gay, he can try my life. I'm a gay auto mechanic and race car driver and builder in the NHRA. It took me forever to find compatible gearheads. I did but it took five cities in California and thirteen years. Christ, I would have better luck speaking Japanese in a gay bar than talking about cars when socializing. I'm NOT kidding. Good luck to this dude, it is so hard to come out and keep coming out. What people need to understand is that it is a rest of your life endeavor. He's really cute tho'. Shouldn't be too much of a problem for him.

Yeah if he would understand what a life in Christ is then he would have read what it says in the Bible about how homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord..
Yeah good for him for not misleading people anymore..If that's the way he wants to live than so be it. Surprised that one who supposedly knows the Bible would be so proud of such a deed.

SADLY HE IS FORGETTING THE NUMEROUS BIBLE VERSES REFERRING TO THE SIN OF HOMOSEXUALITY AND SODOMY. SURE HE CAME OUT OF THE CLOSET AND IS BEING HONEST–THAT PART IS GOOD. BUT WE NEED TO PRAY THAT HE REMEMBERS THE REALITY OF NO LIFE AFTER DEATH AS A HOMOSEXUAL. MANY CHRISTIANS ARE TWISTED INTO BELIEVING THEY CAN BE BOTH A CHRISTIAN AND HOMOSEXUAL..ACCORDING TO GODS OWN WORDS…YOU CAN NOT!

Hate the sin. Love the sinner. As a Christian I don't HATE him…but he is living in sin according to the bible. Homosexuality as a sin is pretty damn clear several times in there. He opened the door to sin and a homosexual spirit and has chosen to live with that sin.

Re: KristianRe: Who are we to judge?Re: SamanthaRe: Dallas – AANNDD AAGGAAIINN , I must say, 272/277/286/287 : Read your New Testament carefully.

He NEVER had anything to say on the subject of Homosexuality. Paul, the Roman Citizen, with his own "Torments" and "Tendencies", and his own grudge aginst Rome, said much. But Jesus said nothing against Homosexuality.

WOW!!! Lots of questioning youths now. I always see at least one dude that seems gay at the christian functions i go too. they always seem to have great leadership qualities and public speaking is a breeze. but they seem so "gay" i hate to make assumptions, and others will ask what does "gay" seem like, but come on. It is only a matter of time before some of those guys come out and dissappear from the youth group leadership positions they have been working in. I think they are good guys and gay or not, they deserve to be happy and loved.

Good for him! As a progressive Christian myself, I know that not all Christians are reactionary, homophobic creeps (although some of the comments from hate-filled "Christians" in this comment section would suggest otherwise–as would some of the hate-filled comments from anti-Christians). I applaud Southworth's courage.

    Someday we'll see won't we.
My friend passed away from cancer and when she was taking her last breath she said, "I see them. I see the angels, and there He is." She reached up her hand and she was gone.

2 Corinthians 5:8 (New Living Translation)
    New Living Translation (NLT)

Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.

He doesn't lie, my friend…praise Him!
