She's singing live. You can hear a few flat notes in the beginning, but she brought it at the end.

I won tickets to see American Idol yesterday (I promise I was there) I actually got to fist bump Justin Guarini (who was sitting right in front of me) and she was for sure not lip syncing because she practiced the song first while people were filling in their seats and she screwed up a little while she was singing.
Also, hilarious: Azamat, the short older guy from Borat who Borat chases around, was ALSO in the audience, sitting right behind the judges.
Lastly: Mariah's boobs looked good!
It is so live. Perez stop making it seem like she is lip-synching. Someone is hating on Mariah because she can actually sing live unlike Madonna. This song is so beautiful. Her whole album is awesome. I love, FOR THE RECORD, MIGRATE, SIDE EFFECTS, BYE BYE, AND OF COURSE TOUCH MY BODY. THE WHOLE ALBUM IS A PERFECT 10.

she was definitely singing live. i thought the performance was really boring actually, until it got closer to the end when she took the mic off the stand and started power singing. the whole beginning was a snooze. and it sounded way too quiet, like the sound balance was off.

she is always and still is singing live, you can always tell by the sounds of her breath in the mike. its subtle but it is always the way to tell if someone is lipsynching- the ones that are have edited the breath sounds out of their pre-recordings. mimi may be silly and full of herself but she is still the best and realest performer out there and for that i can't help but respect her- and christina of course!!

Doesn't look like it. She has an live autotuner on her voice which will make it look like there's a slight delay. And then it doesn't make it hard to sing all of the notes. She COULD be punched in at certain points, which she has done in the past.

I think she prerecorded her performance and only started to actually "sing" at the end of the song so we could hear her hit the high notes. What a disappointment…she has such an incredible voice and she pretends to sing when she's live. She's pathetic.

if you saw it live on TV you would definitely be able to tell she was NOT lipsynching! all of these videos floating around the internet just have really poor synchronization of audio and video, so it would be impossible to tell from just watching this.

Good Lord Perezilla…if your musical ear was as half as developed as your love for food, you'd no doubt hear that she is singing live. Are you that tone deaf? Listen carefully: In the video you posted slide it to 1:54, 2:21, 2:25, 2:50, 3:18, 3:29, 3:48 and 4:18. These are spots where you can without question hear differences in the studio album version and her live performance. When it hits 4:18, you'll hear some weird microphone feedback which is a sign of someone singing LIVE. It's probably not your fault tho - you're used to hearing sub-par "singers" like Madonna who you can REALLY tell when she's singing live because of the horrible real voice she has vs. someone like Mariah who actually has musical talent - a voice and a song writer, who when she sings her songs, she's mastered them vocally. Mariah doesn't need 25 machines behind her voice like Matuna does in order to sound half decent - sorry but that's the truth. Take some time to LISTEN before you start shitting out your stupidities.

As someone who loves Mariah, I also have to keep it real. Her voice is basically shot nowadays, she still kinda has it, but it's not reliable. I basically watch every live performance she's done since Mimi, and she has a fun habit of singing 95% of a song (masked by tons of overlapping vocals and overly loud back up singers) and when it gets to the end when she normally belts pretty high, she switches to a pre-recorded vocal. Oh, and overseas, she lip-syncs, like almost every performer who performs over there. I think it's a standard or something.
But, make no mistake, I'm a huge Carey fan, and the fact that she does stuff like this really makes my day. She's a diva and makes good songs, like Britney! What more could a gay boy want? She's a legend, and like Aretha and even Celine to a point, she's paid her dues and even if their voices aren't exactly what they once were, she still deserved respect for her accomplishments!

Anyways, the real question is whether Mariah is going to fire that backup singer who screw'd up every whistle she did. EVERY ONE! I guess Mariah is letting her backup do whistles as a complement to the performance so HATERS can't she relies only on that.
It sounds as if she was not lipsyncing in the first part of the song but towards the end when around the end where she takes the mic out of the stand, the track went to lip sync. You can actually tell.

Actually…us TRUE lambs know that mimi does A LOT of "live to track". So the track has her voice, but she still sings over it…the pre-recorded voice helps her sound better so she doesn't have to do it all on her own since its live….plus, if there's a mic problem, the voice won't just cut out…so it's also a preventative measure……tons of stars do it!!!!

Ugh. It's usually pretty obvious when someone lipsynchs … what I've never understood is… if they plan to lip-synch, why don't they go to the venue prior to the show and just tape them singing it then so at least it will can be controlled but sound live? She was NOT lip-synching here though…it really was just backing vocals in the song, but you could CLEARLY make out her voice singing live throughout the entire song!
