she was definitely singing live!
i think you got confused where they let the background tape play, and she sang sort of softly over it…
but overall, it was live.
She was soo not singing that live. She might have been singing it, but it was to backing tracks, with her live mic turned way way down and the vocals were coming 99% from the precorded tape.

she's singing live. some of the chorus is from a recording and obviously, they are playing her voice in the background to give it some volume, but yeah.. she's singing that live
This is the fist time I will say something in favor of Mariah post-brakedown… She was NOT LIMPSYNCHING and you can say by the way the "S" blows on the Mike… She was probably singing over the song just as a Helper. I am NOT a fan of Mariah but what is fair is fair… She didn't actually sound perfect! She sounded great but not perfect! It is funny that you keep posting these news and doubts about Mariah but you don't dare to post anything about Madonna (and I AM A HUGE FAN OF MADONNA) when she sings live her voice is processed via software before it reaches the speakers or how her voice it is actually a tinny little voice that get's all fixed in studio. I watched closely to see if she was lip-synching or not and it appeared to be live.
Yes, she sang 50% of the it, including the roaring parts at the end. Listen to it without picture and hear for yourself.
Totally looks like lip-synching or sining over her own voice. The camera barely stays on her and tons lots of long shots or shots with that big-dick of a microphone in front of her mouth. Also her voice is too even, and you don't hear her breathing at all. If you listen and don't look at the video, it totally sounds like a recording. It's all way to even sounding to ever be LIVE.

I don't like her and I think it was definitely lip-syncing. Before her boob job and getting all 'sexy' (to some people) she was much better. Much more light and natural. Now she's just like ever other made up Hollywood diva.
Mariah was definitely singing live! I mean, you can hear it in her voice… And besides, she is an EXELLENT live singer! I saw her in Cleveland in '03 and it was more amazing than listening to a CD

Her back up singer sang louder and stronger…..poor poor Mariah. She certainly needs better stage presence and definitely needs to lose those clothes that are made for a 12 year old!! lol it's funny because she sings live through most of the song, but you can tell right when the pre-recorded vocal comes in at the end when she does her signature melisma. she just can belt it like she used to. i even remember watching this live and knowing exactly when that pre-recorded vocal came on. weird choice, since it's idol and it's all about live singing. i wonder what simon would say. i also remember her appearance on Oprah was much of the same. she sang the same song and had bits of pre-recordedness. atleast it's better than when she was on for Charmbracelet a few years back and lip-synched her ENTIRE "Through The Rain" performance. anyone remember that?
I'm a singer and know exactly what was done here. This was a carefully orchestrated faux performance. She was singing over a pre-existing track for the first part of the song. Right before the 4 minute mark they turned down her mic and she was all out lipsynching. Notice how the camera panned back or straight on shots while she carefully covered her lips with the mic to mask any discrepancies with the track.
wats that whistling noise when she's hitting the high notes at like 3:57 or somewhere around there? sounds like how some ppl have been saying, there's prob a back track to help her on sometimes. her voice is def fading from wat i've heard lately (the live ones like her hills performance i think)

It looks like she is lipsynching as well as the back up singers. The song seems to begin when she is walking up to the mic. I watched her performance on the Hills and there she seemed to have problems reaching the high notes she is famous for. She put forth a lot of effort based on her facial expressions as well as her body language at that performance. Not so much on this one. I would agree the timing was some what off, especially when you can't tell which part she is singing. It seems as if she is singing several parts.

Look Perez Mariah is one of those singers out there who has real talent and that no one can really truly do a perfect job of singing one of her songs. You can tell that she wasn't lipsynicing. I am a professional singer and my daughter called me when she had her special on BET yesterday and told me she was lipsynching. I taped it and I haven't watched it yet. However, I did watch American Idol and she lipsynched most of the song. When she did her part of the song twice, singing with the background singer, you could tell. I love me some Mimi, but she can and must do better. I don't know if I would go see her live, because it wouldn't be live. PEREZ IS CORRECT ON THE LIPSYNCHING!!!!!
